Union Berlin is quite a unique club for those interested. IIRC, their amazing supporter groups banded together and literally rebuilt their stadium a few years back. It's a club that makes the supporters a priority and limits the corporate influence. There's definitely a cult following similar to St Pauli. Union supporters have a big vocal and physical presence within the club and Bobby will have to win them over. I love this opportunity for him.
Can anyone give some updates on this club? Are they a big club? Do they have chances for promotion anytime soon? Are they a respectable club?
From the local paper http://www.berliner-kurier.de/1--fc...verpflichtet-bobby-wood,7168992,31137538.html "Bobby is athletic and fast. And he hasn't yet reached his potential. We are going to work on that the next three years," said his coach Norbert Düwel.
Since they've returned to the 2BL in '09 their average league standing is 8th and have finished 7th in 4 out of the last 5 years. Union have had some good teams but have lacked a player or two to really compete for promotion. I don't know anything much more in-depth in terms of players, tactics, all that but they are certainly respectable in terms of fan support and what they stand for. It's a pretty unique club as I said earlier. Here's a 10 min clip that gives some insight into the club:
I don't see them getting promoted any time soon TBH. They're a mid-table 2.BuLi team, so it's an improvement over the relegation fodder.
They're smaller club than 1860. But at the same time not as ********ed up and Berlin might be a good opportunity for him to train his (supposedly) parteeey skills. Even if they somehow pull a miracle and get promoted - they wont stay long in the top flight cause the infrastructure just is not there.
I was hoping for a Bundesliga team so I could watch on TV but I guess guaranteed minutes is better. Can't wait to see him back in a US uniform! Exciting player to watch
Thanks for the info. Like others have opined, I hope he stays healthy. This could be a very big season for his development and future on the MNT.
Yea he has to stay healthy. Hopefully he builds on the success he's had the past couple friendlies for the U.S. and shows it wasn't just a fluke.

I suggest the title should pay tribute to their name "die Eisernen"(the Irons) or "Eisern Union" (Iron Union). Maybe this is helping. Or something about the Hauptmann von Köpenick (Captain of Köpenick).
A More Perfect Union: Bobby takes Berlin A More Perfect Union: Bobby in Berlin A More Perfect Union: Bobby Does Berlin (Probably not this one...)
