Liga MX is better than MLS by a huge margin. The gap isn't shrinking - based on CCL performances, the gap in 2013-14 was bigger than it had been in 5 years. MLS is getting better, yes, but so is Liga MX.
For the record, I didn't claim MLS was better. I just don't think the leap -- in terms of play -- to NASL to MLS is on par with the leap from NASL to Liga MX . That's just my opinion. That's what I see. But I respect that others may disagree and that's totally cool.
You said that the jump from NASL to Liga MX is "no different" than the jump from NASL to MLS. You can have that opinion, but you're absolutely, 100% wrong, and I have no idea how you got that opinion in the first place, nor how you can justify it.
If I needed to justify it to you or anyone else I would spit off my reasons. But I don't need to justify it to anyone. It's just my opinion. Take it or leave it. I respect your opinion. Just leave it at that. It's for the better. After all, this thread is about Ibarra not a MLS vs. LIga MX thread. I took the bait and led it down a path I should not have. Back to Ibarra.............
Opinions aren't meant to be taken or left, they're meant to be evaluated and analyzed. Otherwise they're just unsubstantiated blathering.
Because this will happen right around the start of the Gold Cup, Ibarra (and Yarbrough) may or may not be part of this, but for those interested in León's preseason tour in the U.S....
Ibarra's not the provisional roster for the Gold Cup. No changes or additions allowed, so he should be at these matches (unlike Yarbrough).
Didn't the worst team in MLS just make the CCL final eliminating Pachuca on the way? Did I miss Leon and Cruz Azul being eliminated in the group stage? Just having a hard time following your logic of using the tournament before the one that just ended. Liga Mex is probably a bigger jump, but based on the performance of USNT players from both leagues on the international stage I'd say it isn't that significant.
that wasn't the MLS m8, they were eliminated by Tico teams and both teams played like shit in the league too, Pachuca got punished for their youth and lack of experience managing a lead (last second goal) and America scored what? 4 goals in Montreal, and only because they forgot their finishing shoes it could have ended with 2 or 3 more. Also consider that most dual nationals you get from Mexico aren't exceptional players in the league and if they didn't have a US passport they would never be close to playing international games due to their lack of quality.
I don't think the promotion to Leon would be any more daunting than being promoted to LA Galaxy or even NY Red Bulls. Much of this is also psychological, and frankly Liga MX is a very good step up in competition from NASL, but the stage itself (Leon) is not any greater than the upper MLS (Seattle, LA, NY). Plus, being Mexican-American, I'm sure it'll help him as he likely already has some sort of idea of what that league is all about.
I think this discussion is better suited elsewhere since it's going to lead to our friends from BSMX coming in and turning this into a bit of a rivalry thread. I'm happy for Ibarrra. Have only seen him play limited minutes for the National Team, so I don't know a ton about him but he does have a hell of a motor. Will be a tough jump for him, but I wish him the best of luck

Good for his career, but it remains to be seen whether he has the quality to be a NT player. The callups could very well still be a waste.
We have a home for this MX vs MLS palaver now: http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/the-containment-unit-the-ya-league-comparison-cesspool.2011515/ @bungadiri - Maybe shift some of these posts over or incinerate them entirely?
If for anything else, Klinsmann helped this guy get a much better payday than he was previously getting by calling him up a few times.
And the same has happened for Bobby Wood. Last October his career looked to be nearly over at 1860; now he's just secured a 1.2 million Euro move to VfB Stuttgart. Both of these will have been duly noted by player agents everywhere. That means a lot more players will be reporting fit for MNT duty when they're carrying knocks, and dual nationals will be looking at the US MNT a whole lot more closely. I'd say Klinsi is doing this part of his job rather well, no? (ducks for cover)
Good move to Miguel, although I agree that he's in a bit over his head. However, that's how he will learn if he sinks or swims, so props to him for taking such a big leap.
