I wished they signed that many. The stands would be filled then. Hopefully with the open spot they consider resigning Kyah Simon after the WWC. I think she was a good fit while she was here.
Only once I think, for Vittsjö in Sweden and that seem to have been a short-time contract, about a month and playing five games.
Hmm... that wasn't very long then, so I guess homesickness is more possible. Still seems a strange reason, as long as it wasn't impacting her performance. When it starts happening a lot, that makes me think there might be some sort of causation. Like improper training techniques or overworking or something.
Maybe after playing only one game (the first for 61') out of 3 games, a player comes down with " homesickness".
Houston has their Ochs replacement- her former Aussie club mate Ellie Brush: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/spo...al&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer Oh, and going a bit OT here, Brush is not the only omission from the Matildas squad that's been revealed. Sources are saying Brianna Davey is being left out as well.
The only two that were injured were Williams and Dumont. Dumont would have been one of the 3 keepers had she not gotten injured again, but Williams seems to have won the race to be fit in time. Davey had been the regular starter for most of the last couple years. The fact that she has apparently been left out is huge. That's like leaving Hope off the US roster.
Houston acquires Toni Pressley from WNY for Ashley Nick: http://www.houstondynamo.com/news/2...defender-toni-pressley-western-new-york-flash
I'm over the moon about the Flash shipping Pressley out. I still blame her for the blowout against the Reign, and to be honest, there wasn't any room for her. And we really needed another midfielder. It'll let Edwards get higher up the field.
Not a current move, but here's looking to the end of the season already: Germany GK Nadine Angerer will retire from international play after the 2015 WWC and retire entirely after #NWSL season with Portland.— Jeff Kassouf (@JeffKassouf) May 13, 2015
I'm wondering if her mind will change if Germany qualifies for the Olympics (which they didn't do last time).
Yes, but that was rather a surprise. If she were holding open the possibility of playing in the Olympics, I don't know why she'd announce her retirement now.
She says her decision is "final," that she will retire completely after the completion of the Portland Thorns season in September. She says she probably could play two more years based on her fitness, but she wants the decision to be hers and not brought about by an injury or someone else's decision.
Calling all you ersatz general managers -it’s time to put on your Charlie Naimo hats: WNY needs a second keeper for the next 2-4 weeks minimum, while Sabrina D’angelo is mendingfrom a separated shoulder. Aubrey Bledsoe was the LA Blues keeper in 2014. Should WNY go after Bledsoe who is now with Sky Blue, or not- and who/what should they trade?
Houston nabbed Ellie Brush from Oz on short notice - methinks WNY should maybe shoot for Brianna Davey? I'd suggest Mackenzie Arnold, but she's been called up as the third AusWNT 'keeper now...
I don't think SBFC wants to trade Bledsoe they probably see her as a future starting GK after Cameron leaves. So they probably wouldn't trade her unless they got D'Angelo in return. But D'Angelo has been very impressive for WNY and they'd be crazy to give her up for a 1 game fill in. This is exactly why I suggested that intra-NWSL loans would be beneficial... Chris Henderson suggested Anna Picarelli who used to play for Naimo with the Pali Blues. Not sure what she's up to, but she at least is an experienced keeper.
Anna Picarelli would be following trhe Naimo pipeline from the Pali blues to WNY Flash and from her Wikipedia bio seems to be a good choice. And, please note that WNY definitely needs a Keeper for Saturday's game, but not just that game. They need a Backup Keeper the whole time D'Angelo is out (2-4 weeks or more.. I think coming back to soccer goalkeeping from a separated shoulder may be not just as simple as 1-2-3.) Also I seem to remember WNY had an amateur Keeper in the fold prior to obtaining Didi Haracic last year - I don't recall her name or background, except she was probably a local player (University of Buffalo or Niagara University)- she may be Saturday's starter. s
CoachJon said 2-4 weeks minimum, (as was re-emphasized above,) so I was thinking more along the lines of a real signing as opposed to an amateur/reserve. If someone's going to be around at least a month anyway, might as well be someone who wouldn't be instantly bumped back out, right? *shrugs* That said, while I don't know much about Picarelli, she sounds maybe like a more natural option anyway.
That might not be necessary. Yes, the Flash now need two keepers for this weekend, but they have next week off, and there's a possibility that D'Angelo could be ready for Chicago on the 6th. And then the WC break happens.
Yes, but they only need a starter for 1 game. There's no point selling the boat just to get a starter for 1 game. Her downside is her height. At only 5'4" she is very short for a keeper. But I would say she plays much bigger than her height. Other than that she's pretty solid.
