I just pulled this off their website. Is it me, or is that the 110 freeway in the background. Certainly looks like the Sports Arena location they have been talking about.
It's stock photography customized to "show an impression of what an eventual stadium might look like". Hell, ask David Beckham about stadium designs and locations. tm
Well I'm being coy. I already know this is the proposed and selected site for LAFC's proposed 25k seat, semi-subtiered, acoustic reinforced retro-dome stadium. with 4 accessory buildings being proposed of 3 stories and over 12,000 sq ft. each. for retail, commercial, and restaurant. The EIR (environmental impact report) was done in May, and completed in eary October which was fast-tracked by City planning dept. by Council District 9 councilmen Mr. Price and his office. It states that the proposed site would sit within the Lot/Tract of the soon to be demolished Sports Arena. The only construction stipulation is that stadium height be restricted to 88' above grade as to not obstruct view of Coliseum from street and freeway view, thus the subtiered construction. Gensler Architects has been retained and have completed several site surveys, geo-tech reports, and intial full renderings and elevations have been done, and distributed to the LAFC ownership group and MLS representitives. Gensler was retained, and still is under contract to design and impliment all of Farmers Field plans, entitlements, and public relations media packages and artwork. Construction documents are most likely being prepared and will be ready to submit for permits in the next 60 to 90 days and will be checked by Los Angeles Building and Safety Dept. (Case Management) special projects plan examiners who can turn around this project within 3 months. This project because of the State ownership is not subject to lengthy planning determinations, Public works and LADOT issues that a project of the same scale would be in if that property was within City of Los Angeles proper. This site was wisely chosen because of the all advantages it comes with. Leased property, parking friendly, sufficient land space to construct, no entitlement issues, no planning issues, no community problems, or groups against the project, Council District full support, High population density, 60% to 80% latino population within 5 miles of stadium, 3 museums (Science Center-Natural History-African-American) The Shrine auditorium, Galen Center, USC, Coliseum, and less than 3 miles south of Staples center and Nokia theater. Im sure all they are waiting for is all the legal ramblings to conclude, and to agree to all the conditions Im sure The City of LA (Eric Garcetti, and his Council henchmen) are wanting as "indirect compensation" and community improvements for such a easy path to a downtown stadium without years of roadblocks.... like Farmers Field will face when or if that project moves forward. Welcome LAFC new home now, why wait!!
Who are you and what did you do with the frothing pessimistic rant machine we know and love as TJ? Away with these facts and positivity!
The most important and crucial advantage is not mentioned, but that's because it's not an advantage: average income of that high population density. It's only about $11,000/year for individuals and $30,000/household. The people who live in that immediate area will not be buying season tickets or even seats to individual matches, not at the prices LAFC will be asking to pay back its flock of investors. The stadium is going there because there's one other thing that high population density can't afford - lawyers.
I hate to say it, but it's a lot closer than Carson and can easily be reached by rail. Just sayin'. tm
This team will always be Chivas, no matter what they are called. Why root for Chivas when you can root for the big club?
The parking around the Sports Arena stinks. But if you live in South Bay you can take #40 bus to the stadium. It starts behind the South Bay Galleria
Klein talking about working with the city on public transportation lets you know how much they're worried about LAFC. What they really need is a "Galaxy bus" from the harbor transportation center. I'd gladly take 2 different subway lines from the valley to a bus that goes directly from the harbor center to the stadium that doesn't worry about what you have in your big gulp cup.
Whenever people talk about public transit in LA, I die a little inside. Land of the car and home of the free, baby! Chivas2.0 can have the douchebag hipsters who worry about their "carbon footprint" or whatever.
I take it you also don't like paying $30 to park on Creeper's lawn and returning after the event to discover the wheels to your car were stolen.
Remember, it could also be the 170. http://la.curbed.com/archives/2014/11/could_las_newest_soccer_team_get_a_stadium_in_the_valley.php
