I believe he was in the Timber academy but I think they never offered a contract and he probably was never interested in signing.
Rubio gets another start in midfield for today's game. http://www.espnfc.com/gamecast/statistics/id/396139/statistics.html
RR shot over the bar. Probably could've taken a better touch, ball bobbled in the air before he hit it. Min 39
Game ends 2-2. 90 minutes and two hockey assists for Rubio. Some nice dribbling, drawn fouls, yellow cards drawn and nice passing. I'd give him a 7 out of 10.
Doesn't look like an out an out burner in regards to straight line speed, but man does he look lightening quick, agile, and dynamic with his movement.

Rubin describes himself as a "number 9/10, a sort of in-between where you can play off the striker." He also says his "heart has always been with the United States" and that his parents never pressured him to play for Mexico or Guatemala. He also says he didn't join the Timbers Academy because when they were setting up, he was offered to go to residency at Bradenton and obviously chose that over the Timbers.
He is one of more international ready u21s we have. Honestly I expect him to have more of an impact than Green sooner (excluding his goal in the WC his play otherwise has been Poor at best) Julian can't handle the physicality yet until he grows into his body. Hopefully he makes me eat crow though
I agree with this. I simply think he's a better soccer player, and I expect that to translate when they're both on the field together, which should be soon.

He was reportedly pretty sick during the US-Ireland game, so hopefully he'll be well enough to play Sunday.
