LA United. L.A.U rolls off the tongue. Sadly with LA being so Hispanic, and with the owners coming from "moniker" friendly environments, I'm suspecting some halfway house name. With someone actually offering $100m to MLS, I doubt they gave stringent conditions on stadium use. Whatever happens, Chivas is no longer with us, and for that we should all be thankful.
Don't the Dodgers own a lot of land around Dodger Stadium? Wasn't there speculation that their ownership group wanted to develop some of that land? Is there enough land near the stadium to fit a SSS?
True, but San Antonio is in the running to land the Raiders too. And unlike LA, San Antonio has a stadium right now that they can play in while a new one is being built. Still, your point is solid, though.
An NFL team could not share Dodger Stadium for a few seasons on a temp basis? Three co-tenants, they could make it work for a few months.
There were rumours that they had enough land to put a new NFL stadium there, so I'm guessing it would be enough for a SSS.
I wonder who LA2's chief rival will be. I'm afraid LA1 and the Quakes are already in a relationship. Could we set them up with Sacramento maybe?
Guber is a small share holder in the Dodgers (Mark Walter is the main money guy), don't think there's necessarily going to be all this synergy between the Dodgers and LA2. It's not the same as 100% of the Yankees ownership buying 20% of NYCFC. It's more like (and I don't know the exact numbers) a person who owns 10% of the Dodgers is buying 10% of LA2. The Dodgers and LA2 certainly might work and cross promote together, but I don't see the Dodgers giving away parking lot space for someone else to build a stadium. If LA2 wants to build there, they better be ready to fork over a ton of money to buy the land first.
No. Dodger Stadium wouldn't work for the NFL even temporarily. But the Rose Bowl would work just fine. And LA doesn't have Jerry Jones blocking a move there like San Antonio does.
Expansion fee? I thought they were buying from the league the franchise that already exists as (a previously horribly branded version of) LA2. Will be interesting to see how the league phrases/describes this purchase (and buy into the league) by Henry Nguyen and friends, but I have yet seen any indication that it will be an "expansion fee" that is being paid.
The residents in the Arroyo Seco might not be happy if it happens, but they've already been over ruled by a judge. http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/spo...a-in-nfl-lawsuit-filed-by-rose-bowl-neighbors
Technically, they are not. Chivas USA will fold after this season, and LA2 will begin in 2017. That means the league will have 20 teams in 2015 and 2016 (unless Sacto can convince them to allow them to have Chivas).
Some NFL team is coming to LA. It's not like AEG was waiting to deal with Chivas buyer . Perhaps they think an NFL move will happen after this season, hence the extension . So if Farmers Field becomes real it will be the LAG second home, not LA2 home with a smaller footprint, no ? The speculation should be incredible in the next few months And yes LA2 main rival will be LAG. Quakes rival will be Republic and Republic will have its way with the Quakes after year 2 at most. Quakes will be the runt of the litter in CA as long as they are owned by the same unambitious cheapskates.
Chicago. MLS owes them. So what marquee teams will this league have? New York City LA Galaxy LA2 Seattle Toronto Miami Orlando NYRB (jury is still out on them). Chicago needs to be on that list
