I thought the "traitor" stuff was overdone, but I still can't help but say "Oh, well, that's a shame for you."
Let it go Giuseppe. You're young, Italian, rich and tremendously talented, even with a few bum knees. You've got the world on a string.
I don't blame him for being bummed out, particularly because the odds of making a World Cup don't exactly increase after the age of 30 for any player.
A mean spirited cynic trying to be funny would write - "With Rossi it's more like a short leash!" And yeah, I'm a mean spirited cynic trying to be funny. So sue me. Actually, I feel very bad for the dude. He was so close. That said, you pick your color. you place your chips. you hope the wheel stops on your number.
I have a personal policy not to feel sorry for people making over $1,000,000/year (with personal and family tragedies excluded).

They've actually ruled out muscular problems and reports now state that it's stress to his knee -- the same knee that was recently operated on. He'll rest and rehab for 7 days before undergoing another check: Calcio, Fiorentina: allarme per Giuseppe Rossi, ancora problemi al ginocchio
Yep, some are just genetically freaks, and their ligaments seem to withstand the same torque without tearing or straining. Also, I really think that once that first injury happens, the bio mechanics of a person's movement changes sufficient to increase the risk of injury to the opposite side. There is change to the muscle on the other side during the recovery and then during rehab. Just so hard to recover from two major knee injuries. Feel bad for the guy.
The news turned out for the worst, and Rossi is indeed going to need another knee operation: Giuseppe Rossi Medical Update
