If there's an intentional marketing buildup to Yedlin's decision, that's quite ridiculous. If he wants to hold off on announcing it for some reason, or is Sea wants to maximize the announcement, that's one thing(like announcing it before a Sea match in front of Sea fans), but if the intent is more from the league angle to hold off on announcing it as part of the All Star game/celebrations, that reeks of a minor league attitude for me. That's grasping at straws in the hope of milking any hype possible. Seems we're going to hear that this deal has been done for a little while but MLS wanted to hold off the maximize exposure, which is quite petty and needy. This would have little to do with Yedlin and Sea and much more to do with MLS milking publicity. Player transfers should just be a regular part of business for a league which respects itself, but instead this appears more like, "woohoo, look at us, a big club finally purchased one of our prospects". Not a good look.
Agreed. I don't think it would be a good marketing move by MLS for Yedlin to have an announcement during the All-Star festivities that he is joining Roma.
Seems more likely that it would be Roma holding off on the announcement until the All-star festivities. After all, they're the ones who want to increase their exposure in the US. Maybe it is the expectations which are minor league...
I don't know why but i just had a moment of Deja-Vu, and feel like I've seen that picture before today... Am i crazy?
Actually this picture is from before the Men in Blazers event... I just watched it and him and Cahill are wearing the same clothes.... I wonder when the announcement/decision is coming then?
Taylor Twellman @TaylorTwellman 2m Hearing Spurs have jumped ahead of everyone else in Yedlin sweepstakes. He'd stay in Seattle for 2014 before joining Tottenham. Shoutout to Lalas since they like to bro it out: Alexi Lalas @AlexiLalas 2m I predict that @TaylorTwellman will tweet breaking news in 5...4...3.....
I wouldn't consider Spurs unless they also have a loan option set up for a club similar to Genoa. But in general due to style of play between clubs and leagues, I'd much, MUCH prefer Yedlin going to Serie A for 3-4 years, then consider the EPL later. Ain't my choice though.
I wish US players stopped thinking England is the be all end all. I'm tired of so many of them going there just to rot on a bench or joining a relegation bound team. Or both.
How many times do I have to say this? "Cash rules everything around me C.R.E.A.M get the money Dolla dolla bills y'all" But seriously I would also much prefer the rumored Roma move for the Yedlin
Agreed. The English game simply isn't complete enough for the world stage right now. The problem isn't just US players thinking it's the end-all, but also US fans. The Premier League does a fantastic job of marketing but in my mind the real measure of a league's worth is how the domestic players a league produces perform at the national team level. England has just not been at the level of the rest of the European heavyweights in recent years.
The funniest thing about this is that in the last year and a half or so, Twellman has become the most credible news-breaker in U.S. Soccer. I find myself believing this, though I don't want it to be true. Can't blame him though, $$$$$.
As a seasoned Spurs hater, Kyle Walker ********ing sucks. Yedlin could certainly overtake him. There's also the possibility that Euro clubs have noted his comparatively weak defending, but love his speed, and see him as a midfield option instead.
Shea for one, likely Altidore for another. Eddie Johnson lost any sort of forward momentum in his growth/confidence when he moved there.
