Who: Seattle Sounders v. Vancouver Whitecaps
    Where: Vancouver, BC
    When: Saturday 7/5/14 7:00 pm
    Watch: JoeTV

3rd of our 6 Cascadia Cup matches. Vancouver has looked rather pedestrian their past few games, but we'll be without Pineda and Alonso in the middle. Also, it seems unlikely Dempsey and Yedlin will make an appearance after just returning home. On the bright side Martins is back.

I hope we can grind out a win but without a creative midfield outlet I'm expecting a 0-0 snoozer at best.

Will be nice to see Mr. Flips again, at least, even if he's got no service.

    Woooooooo!!!!!!!!!! Let's do this!!!!!!!!

Okay. That's all the excitement this game will have. ;)

Honestly, I don't see how we get a win in this one. As already noted, no Pineda and Alonso in the middle probably means Evans and Rose in CM and Anibaba at RB and Traore or Scott at CB.. I just don't see us doing very well in this game.. But hey! We might pull out a squeaker. Rivalry matches gotta have some fire right?

    My predicted line-up is:

    ----- Martins --------- Cooper ---------
    Pappa------Evans/Rose------Neagle
    Gonzalez--Traore/Marshall--Anibaba
    ------------------Frei------------------

Could also see the goal scoring machine that is Barrett in for Cooper.

Rose and Traore are injured, so Evans will likely pair with Azire, and Marshall will certainly be paired with Scott.

Also, I think Barrett will be rewarded for his game winner last week with a start up top next to Martins.

This game is gonna be tough. I could see Vancouver using their speed to stretch out our backline as they have in the past. We may be lucky to pull a draw out of this one...

and toss in Martins while you're at it. Allegedly injured. Barrett and Cooper up top again. This should be fun. And when I say fun I mean more than likely not fun at all.

Damn, not used to the Sounders losing. Or getting shut out. The skill was quite obviously lacking out there today. Looking forward to getting everyone back next week.

As we veterans say, WTF, Over? If you have an advantage in points, fine. That's yesterday, you've won nothing until you have won something. Today, our scrubs proved they are better being good scrubs than being first teamers. We already knew this. We just threw away points that we may need. We have won nothing until we have won something. And, you know, I understand homer broadcasting, but if you put out a WTF lineup, be decent enough to tell the fans what is going on. Ross Fletcher would be better at selling Corn Flakes than telling his fan base that needs to know what the hell is going on. I am sure he is embarassed. He should quit in protest, but he has to earn a living. We have all sorts of exceptional talent. We have good reserves. We gave the exceptional talent the night off when no trophies have been earned, no playoff position has been achieved, and we are now going into a USOC match with no momentum. WTF, Over?

Pappa and Marshall are soccer players. Not sure what the others describe themselves as. USOC, yeah baby.

Yeah, Pappa put the offensive on his shoulders tonight. No help whatsoever.

I will be one hundred percent pissed off at management, that is management, why are you guys not pissed at management, am I getting across that MANAGEMENT flocked up, unless we see Oba, Deondre, Clint, Pineda, etc. suiting up against Portland in USOC. Or perhaps this was a way to get the scrubs ready for that match. In any event, I feel we are owed some 'splaining. Those guys threw this game away. A Cascadia game. They threw it away. This is an outrage.

There was nothing that could have been done about any of those. Did you want them to bring back Deandre and Clint after just a couple days off after a 120 minute game in hot and humid conditions, and a very long flight? Pineda was out because of yellow accumulation, just like Ozzie. The rest were injuries, and that happens. So what exactly are we supposed to be upset with management for?

You are providing the official explanation. And it it is not your job. It was more than a couple of days. And you are damn right. I expect them back. I expect that as soon as they found out how shorthanded we were, they would have been eager to provide the help we need. Yes. I refer again to the example of that alleged slacker, Landon Donovan, and his example from 2002. Those guys should have been available off the bench. And "all sorts of people are not here, and we will describe the scrubs as heroic, and we will offer no report about anything" is not what I want from even a homer broadcast.

Love the humor in that, btw. Upset more about the casual blowing off of the result than the actual result. You are right if you imply that the result of a soccer game is not worth rioting about. It's not a matter of life and death - it is much more important than that.

Do you think it was a coincidence that 5-nil loss at New England came after a midweek game where pretty much every starter played and then flew cross country on a few days rest?

Of course, Martins being on holiday for 2-3 weeks and than right before the game we find out he has a hamstring injury...the needle on my "uh-oh this guy is peacing out" meter is starting move.

It was just an observation, not social commentary. There are enough such demagogues around these parts that can fill that role already. But as Yoshou noted above, this was a likely outcome considering the assembled circus on display. Who's to blame? I'm sure the answer is somewhere on the end of a pitchfork.

I admit I do, but I hope you can see I am trying to keep a since of humor about it. But, Sigi did throw Lamar Neagle and Kenny Cooper under the bus at halftime. I do not get that. I do not. Two more dedicated servants there could not be. Something very weird about that. Two guys who do and have done for years very well in service of the guys who did not show up tonight. Very weird. Very un Sigi. Very WTF?

I think Sigi should have been suggesting those guys for bronze statues while questioning the no shows.

Something strange is afoot and deserves an answer. This is the comment I posted on SSFC:

It is absolutely unacceptable and obnoxious that the the club just threw out an inferior side with no explanation as to why. The guys who got suspended earned their suspensions while other guys were away, for good reasons, of course. But those guys were not available even off the bench? Why? And Oba suddenly came up with an injury at the last minute after being unavailable for suspension? So almost all of our best players were unavailable,. Two were unavailable for suspension, the rest because they need longer to pout about not being the best team in the world? Were they surprised about that? And did Oba get run over by a bus on the way to the stadium? If you were developing the reserves a bit, in hopes of winning with a mixed side against Portland in USOC, okay, I understand that. The guys from the USMNT couldn't get here soon enough for xyz reason. I understand that, if true. My comparison data point is Landon Donovan for San Jose, circa 2002. That is my standard. What I am most concerned about is, "We are putting out a shit team of guys who are great in support but, if good enough to be depended on to win, would make much more money, and we are not bothering to apologize or explain." We, the fans, know why Clint Dempsey makes more money than Chad Barrett. We also expect that Yedlin will get a significant raise or be bought by a club in Europe. We are not fools. We like to win. We know that we need points now. Now. Sorry, but only now will do. We cannot rest on laurels. Especially since we have not won any re MLS competition. Don't count on how sophisticated we are, and how understanding we are, and run out crap in the middle of a competition when better talent is available. And expect we'll understand. I will get you were having us on if you put out the first eleven against Portland in USOC. I will see what you did there. Otherwise, a great big WTF??????
