Figured I'd do just a general thread for the entire USOC.. Well, at least for the fourth and fifth rounds. We'll see about the Quarters and beyond. Fourth round matchup: Teams: PSA Elite (USASA) at Seattle Sounders FC Location: Starfire, Tukwila, WA Date/Time: June 18 @ 7PM Watch: Soundersfc.com Everyone point and laugh at LA Galaxy II. One of only three professional teams to lose to an amateur team in the third round. But then, from what I understand, Los Dos put out a largely reserves of a reserve team line-up because they didn't want to cup tie any players on LAGII for their LAGI games. Not to discount PSA Elite, but expect a largely reserve league line-up for this game.
USOC did the fifth round draw today and it looks like the Sounders will be hosting either the Earthquakes, or the Sacramento Republic (USL-PRO). Both games will be starting at 7pm, but while the Republic's game is set for June 24, the game against the Earthquakes is TBD. http://thecup.us/2014-us-open-cup-round-5-draw-unveiled-potential-matchups-known-for-june-24-25/ I like the draw. We've successfully dodged the rivalry game against Portland, who drew away at SKC or Minnesota, and we'll be facing a still weakened SJC squad, or a D3 team.
Strange they split up Seattle and Portland. From a ticket revenue standpoint that seems incredibly stupid. Also, injuries to Rose and Remick and the current loans of Ockford and Zavaleta could make make for interesting lineup choices in this next round.
So happy to be hosting a USOC game for the first time in almost two years! I've got my 8 tickets, what about you? Hoping for something similar to the last time we played an amateur club:
I just saw something on twitter from Mayers, but it looks like it's possible he could be back in time for the first Open Cup match. http://blogs.seattletimes.com/sound...ould-be-out-4-6-weeks-after-meniscus-surgery/
sold out: http://blogs.seattletimes.com/soundersfc/2014/06/04/sounders-open-cup-game-june-18-sold-out/
Just a reminder, tomorrow is game day for the Sounders. The game starts at 7PM at Starfire and will be streamed at soundersfc.com. I would expect a heavy, heavy reserve dominated line-up for this game.
Yeah.. They were definitely outclassed the entire game.. Considering the quality difference, I thought they did a pretty good job bunkering right up until the PK. Once Evans scored on the PK, you could tell they pretty much assumed the game was over and it became a lot easier for the Sounders from that point on.
USSoccer has released the pairings for the quarterfinals.. http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/06/23/14/51/140623-usoc-quaterfinal-pairings-rel It looks like the coin flipping gods are setting up the Sounders to either host the finals, or be mocked mercilessly and set us up for a home run until the finals, then it'll be away.
Pretty sure we would be guaranteed to host Colorado from the other half of the bracket, we are guaranteed to play at Atlanta or Cosmos. The others I think are a true toss-up. (Note I have no evidence of this it is just my personal belief, and what the voices tell me)
Who: San Jose Earthquakes @ Seattle Sounders Where: Starfire, Tuwkila, WA When: 6/24/2014 @ 7PM Watch: SoundersFC.com Also, if the link at the website doesn't work, go directly to the Sounders youtube channel. Sigi has made comments that he's expecting both sides to feature more starters, so while I don't expect us to be running out a non-WC starting line-up, I would expect the defense to have a rather starter feel and maybe Evans and Alonso in the midfield.. I would also think Oba will feature as he'll be sitting Saturday out with his red card suspension.
Just from a coin flipping gods perspective? But.. I think we'll be matched with the winner of the Galaxy/Railhawks/FCD/Houston bracket in the semi-finals rather than the Atlanta, or Cosmos pairing. Maybe in the Final.
Yes that is what I was going for was the final. Since you said they were setting us up to host the final, or host everything up to the final. So that was my prediction of how the head over tail gods would play this one out. The waffling little bastards
Lol. That would be hilarious if a team whose stadium holds less than 12k hosted the Final. Is the final determined by coin flip now, or is it still a bidding process? I can't remember if they changed that last year or not.
