Official Utah pick-up soccer thread

Discussion in 'Salt Lake Supporters Clubs' started by PumaJohnny, Jun 25, 2005.

  1. I just stumbled on this thread. I would like to start playing again but I'm really, really out of shape and slightly older than you guys (I'm 40). I played midfield in high school and college (USAFA '84-'86) and keeper (Ricks College '88-'89). I haven't touched a ball since then, though. What do you suggest?

There are two teams that the supporters are currently playing on...the first one is an all-ages team that is in D-4, and the next match isn't until August. The second team is a 30+ team that would most likely benefit from your help and experience. Those matches are typically on Mondays. I'll post more info as I get it, but you would need to get your player card if you wanted to play on the team.

There are of course informal kickarounds, but they don't happen as often as the actual matches do.

  4. Where do I get my player card?

I believe you get it here:

    http://www.utahsoccer.org/contact.php

    4476 S. Century Drive; Suite B
    SLC, UT 84123
    Phone (801)263-8166
    Fax (801)263-8966

It'll cost between 50-80, but it's worth it to get out and kick the ball around in a semi-competitive environment. The manager of the team is a guy named Josh. I can get you his info if your interested.

  6. Great! Just PM me the info. Thanks.

    hey
I live in springville, and play in premier (u-17). I'm lookin for some competitive pick-up in utah county that still goes on during the summer. I play 3-4 hours a day, but that's usually just some 3 on 3 street or 1v1v1 in a backyard. I want to improve my team game more. Anywhere is good, anytime, really.

Are you doing any pickup games this winter? Know anything about the Newpark facility in Park City?

Somebody tell us how to get in on some soccer! I would really like to play, but don't know how to get on a team, who to contact, where it's played. I'm looking for indoor (winter) and spring/summer/fall (outdoor) leagues.

Thanks in advance for the info!

ok guys it is time to bring this thread back to the top. I just moved up to slc from provo. I am looking for any info on pickup games during the week or on sat. I tried the park by sugarhouse and it was ok but on the second trip it was a kiddies everywhere. I don't care too much about the skill level or nationality. If anyone knows of anything please reply.

  16. A large Hispanic group plays at Murray park on Saturday mornings. They play next to Parkside Elementary school (5300 South 500 East). They are very friendly and allow anyone to join them. They will speak broken English to you whenever they can but the language is really Spanish on the field. As long as you can understand "Ah-kee, Ah-kee" then you're fine.

I went to Murray Park next to Parkside on Saturday morning and found a nice pickup game of...ultimate frisbee. This was okay, I know the post was from months ago, and I have nothing against the 'bee, but I'm looking for some more current info about pickup soccer games.

So far, I've found the Friday noon-2 indoor games at the Murray indoor place. $5, often fun competition. I found old info about sugarhouse, can anyone confirm/verify specific times/dates of current pickup games?

    Thanks for any help!

There's a thread dedicated to pick up soccer games in the main RSL forum. The sugarhouse game is posted frequently (and recently). Look for new postings monday and tuesday for details about time and place (for the sugarhouse game).
