OH MY! ESPNFC. Headlines. Defoe article. It seems Defoe is pretty intent on staying at Tottenham and trying for a regular place. He does not mention TFC. Of course all sorts of crap written concerning transfers but this raises doubts as to what is going on after a signing was announced
No signing was "announced"....it was leaked by a somewhat regularly unreliable British media outlet. MLSE quickly refuted that any signing had been made...without denying they were talking to the player. Even the ESPNFC story does not deny there are talks...he just says it is out of his hands and his focus, while he is a Spurs player, is on being the best Spurs player he can be.
"Just happy to be here. I want to help out the team any way I can. No, trade rumours aren't a distraction. I'm just taking things one game at a time and focusing on giving 110%. If I end up getting traded to [begin whispered aside/ where is that rumour about? Toronto? where the hell is that? Canada? do I have to wear snow shoes? No? okay /end whispered aside] Toronto that's out of my control."
Ok...sorry, I did not realize you were there when he answered the question and was privy to him whispering the "aside"....it all makes sense now.....gotta get my money back on my TFC Dafoe shirt!
TFC did acquire a Brazilian today who goes by one name...."Jackson"....got him in a trade with FC Dallas.
Well to be fair, even if TFC signed him, you would still look silly in your custom kit as his name is Defoe, not Dafoe!! ;0
I was really excited when we got Simeon Jackson. Then I figured out that we could only afford Jackson.
Jackson isn't particularly well-liked by Dallas fans. they've called him selfish, not a team player, and his killed his team too many times with poor turnovers.
I know he's an MLS veteran (well, by veteran, I mean like 3 years) who can play multiple positions...so I'm willing to see how things turn out. But yeah that spat was the first thing that came to mid when I saw his name. No worries though, we all know TFC has always been a good, stabilizing place for headcases
http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/dec/09/samuel-etoo-chelsea-mls Samuel Eto'o's stint in the Premier League is set to be limited to a solitary season, with the veteran Cameroon forward expected to move to Major League Soccer once his contract at Chelsea expires next summer.
I'm actually glad he landed in Seattle. I can't stand them, but their fans are going to take to him if he's one of their own. And with Gspurning gone you'd have to think he's at least equal to Hahnemann for a chance at the #1 spot there. Will definitely be rooting for him to do well as one of the few generally very well liked TFC players. My favorite Frei memory will always be that celebration after the Alan Gordon equaliser in LA in 2011
TFC used their number one inducement to sign last night (Larry T's centre courtside seats) on Gilberto last night: http://www.thestar.com/sports/socce..._striker_gilberto_lands_in_toronto_kelly.html
Although I'm still not huge on using DP positions on strikers, I like this signing. He's young and Latin American, which I think is a better fit for MLS than European players. My hope is that the Defoe (with all due respect to the man) rumours will fizzle out and the last DP position is used in mid-field (though I'm not holding my breath).
I think the young part is more important than the Latin American part. He's not like a Mista or a Ljundberg type who have declining skills and declining motivation who would come just for one last pay day. Gilberto, like Laba, is here to get an even bigger pay day down the road
the only logical workaround for a player making that amount of money would be that he plays and practices on every surface that his teammates have to and never bitch about it.

Bobby Convey rights plus 2nd round pick (21st) 2014 traded to NYRB for 1st round pick (15th) 2014 and 3rd round pick 2016. Least now there is a point to looking into the super draft to see what players we could pick from. http://www.tsn.ca/soccer/story/?id=438885
the guy is 24 and was the 3rd leading scorer in the brasil serie a last season ... and he seems to be big and strong and like he can handle the physical play in mls unlike some of the more dainty south american signings that hit the league. what's not to like about this guy?
