Beckham Considering Marlins Park & FIU Stadium As Temp. MLS Home November 13, 2013 1:17 PM MIAMI (CBSMiami) – International soccer superstar David Beckham is considering Marlins Park and FIU’s football stadium as two possible temporary homes for a new MLS soccer team while a new stadium is being built. Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez confirmed the news to CBS4′s Gary Nelson Wednesday afternoon. http://miami.cbslocal.com/2013/11/13/beckham-considering-marlins-park-fiu-stadium-as-temp-mls-home/
Could you at least have the decency to not post huge headlines, pictures, and large/bolded font with every freaking link?
If they're considering Marlins Park and are referring to FIU as a temporary option, this means Miami's bid is relying on getting an SSS built. Seems like a difficult plan given how the Marlins/Loria poisoned the well on stadium welfare.
Beckham has big money backing him. I think he realizes he's going to have to privately finance the stadium.
FIU Stadium is a much, much, much nicer option than Marlin's Park. It's a perfect temporary solution... it's also better than several of the proposed stadium sites that have been touted so could be a more permanent (note I didn't say permanent) venue if nothing comes together.
yeah, just what the league needs ... more fieldturf .... in a place where weather is no excuse for not having grass.
I don't know the dimensions of the Marlins field. Can they get this done with out the need for temporary sod on the infield?
They are going to have a tough time laying sod and ripping it up every other week unless they can come up with a tray system (which is going to be hard to accomplish with out digging into the infield every week). In this situation where you need constant change, I think FIU with the field turf would be a better temporary solution, assuming all other financial considerations equal.
Yeah. As long as it's a NYCFC situation where there's a near explicit guarantee that they will move elsewhere asap, turf is fine. Also it depends on when the team is starting up. I doubt its 2015, considering they have no organization to speak of yet(also the expansion draft for 3 teams would be brutal), but if it was it would mean 2-3 years at FIU. But if they come later and have a stadium plan going with minimal trouble, they could really limit their turf time to as little as a year.
FIU has publicly stated that if MLS required them to switch to natural grass to be a MLS venue, then they will make the switch. So I think the real issue is if FIU is too remote for the Miami metro area. It does seem less favorable than where SunLife is located.
This isn't really true because if they announce before the end of the year, it would give them almost as much time as NYCFC. I would think that Beck's has an idea of the people that will be involved as partners and he probably has put out feelers for the FO and manager. When the league added Salt Lake and Chivas they only had ten teams, so 20 players was more percentage wise than 30 with 19 teams.
