I don't know, a DP player with 5 MLS games and 2 qualifiers under his belt should be doing better than flopping and arguing about non called fouls. Let's face it, the refs are not going to give him the benefit of the doubt. His reputation precedes him.
He's played in 5 games and has 14 fouls suffered. I kinda feel like the refs are calling plenty of fouls in his favor.
The scene in the CenturyLink concourses after the game tonight spanned a wide spectrum of emotions... from Sadness, to Disappointment, to Anger, to Betrayal. I saw a girl pleading with disgruntled fans "Leave Dempsey ALONE!", and several grown men weeping openly. Hugging actually, as if in the last seconds before a meteor strike. There was this kid, maybe 13 or 14, wearing a #2 jersey, just sitting in a corner cradling his knees in his arms. I went over and said to him, "Hey look, we're at the top of the league standings with 2 games in hand, it's okay..." and I offered to help him up. But he slapped away my hand and sat there rocking back and forth, staring into space, and wiping away the occasional tear. Now multiply by 55,000. It's really turning ugly here. Thanks Clint.
Okay, I drank entirely too much beer. Thanks to the kindness of random people and the good folks of the Seattle pilice, I've managed to make ny say back home. The game, the game happened. Too much goodness that there is no work tomorrow. Metvsome RSl fans. Reaallt cool folks. Wifey is not pleazed. i love this league. Peace.
I said it earlier, for the first time in his club career, he's the true focal point of opposing teams when he's out there. He's finding out it's a lot easier when you're not the center of attention.
Heck of an account. I think I'll use your line of weeping and hugging "as if in the last seconds before a meteor strike"
You do realize that Dempsey was in preseason....walking around, not playing games for weeks over in England, when he signed to come back to America and play in a different league with a different team that was literally in the middle of their season? God forbid the guy doesn't completely light everything up the minute he walks out there like he's also in midseason condition..... Jesus... Martins didn't light the world on fire the first few weeks he was in Seattle. Beckham didn't light the world on fire the first few weeks he was in LA (and MLS was worse back then) There is an adjustment period.
Agree 100%. The MLS he left also isn't the MLS he came back to. Our little league is not easy, especially not if u are gonna be a high profile big money signing.
Just pointing out that he has a challenge in front of him. If he sees it that way, everything will work out in the end. And I'm all for "flair" that is productive.
Just want to point out that this is the most positive thing anyone could say about someone affiliated with RSL on the night.
And if that's all it is Seattle will have a good problem - depth and competition for spots with lots of productive players. We shall see.
Despite the biblical rain (according to the NWS), including the off-ramp from the interstate to the street on the West site of the Dick complex closed due to structural damage from flooding and the street on the South side of the complex being closed from flooding for over a day, the party goes on. Last night the cooks made it to the tailgate lot to start the smoking of the pigs (2) for the annual C38 pig roast tailgate tonight.
20k+ in Montréal this afternoon. At the same time the habs are playing charity scrimmage for $5 tickets and also draw about 20k. Hockey season is creeping up on this city. It'll be fascinating watch in the Impact can maintain interest.
Yep. And it's interesting to note that Di Vaio had 5 goals in 17 games when he came in mid-season last year. This year, already 17 goals... I'm not too worried about Dempsey.
Can you elaborate on this over in the Rapids forum game thread? Are you talking about the 270 offramp to Vazquez and then is the street on the south side 56th?
It's interesting that there were the same sort of "fancy" complaints from multiple people. I have friends who still point out how Dempsey would try to be too fancy in his early Nats years. Then there was that quote he gave soon after his Seattle signing, something along the lines of how he thought he'd have more freedom in Seattle, that previous clubs didn't want mistakes. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't figure it out, though.
56th was closed but is reopened now. The off ramp from EB I-70 to Quebec is closed due to flooding and structural damage. (I will repeat in the Rapids forum)
