Wondo's form is picking up again in MLS: 3 goals in last 3 games: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...ose-earthquakes-sporting-kansas-city/2669985/
He did, but he signed a new contract with the MLS and by then had become the SJ fans #1 hero by a country mile (and a local boy, too). His value to the MLS as a fan favorite was much higher than it any middling European club would pay in a transfer fee for a 28 year old that was untested in their league. It also seemed that Wondo was pretty happy to play for his hometown club.
Wondo left off the roster for the Costa Rica and Mexico qualifiers: http://www.ussoccer.com/news/mens-n...qualifiers-against-costa-rica-and-mexico.aspx
yup, seems on the outside looking in at the moment. Hes got work to do as Jozy and now Bacon are assured locks, and we arent even sure we are gonna bring 3-4 forwards. Though that dogfight right now seems EJ, Wondo, Herc, Agudelo in no particular order. Agudelo has been pretty impressive lately......his establishment at Stoke will be high risk high reward, he wont have a camp cupcake. He wont have the spotlight of MLS on him, but if he latches on at stoke quickly no way you leave him. EJ im still not entirely convinced of.......but Klinsmann seems to like him a ton.
He was mentioned by Klinsmann as one of the 50-50 decisions, so it sounds like he's on the radar. Frankly, I don't know who he's a 50-50 shot with. I think EJ is more versatile and a better late game sub. Johannsson is just better. Wondo would be an okay guy to call in if someone gets injured or a second yellow vs. CR, but I just doubt he'll go to Brazil without a major improvement in form or one or more injuries from guys ahead of him.
Yup. There's been this never-ending assumption by some (for like 2 years now) that Wondo is out of the pool. Yet every time Klinsmann talks about him, he speaks highly of him. He's clearly still on the radar. If everybody is healthy, he's out. One or two injuries and he's clearly in the picture. Right now I'll guess that he'll be an alternate for Brazil, but who the hell knows what'll happen a year from now.
http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...g-challenge-of-leading-England-attack-in-Kiev Rickie Lambert is the "English Wondo" well for the month of July anyway.
these next 2 WQ matches are the matches for Wondo to be called in. There are two matches left and Wondo has to demonstrate to JK why he should be the 3rd (behind Jozy and EJ) and not the unproven AJ who had an opportunity last two matches but failed to impress enough in camp to get to the pitch for meaningful minutes. Now the two can go head to head (AJ vs Wondo) in more meaningful competition than Gold Cup and friendlies. Its a long way from Panama to Sunderland for Jozy. EJ, LD and Demps should be in the stretch run and well, Wondo's Quake team could be done by then. Wondo earned the WQ look in the GC.
I doubt Wondo gets called in. Has he been performing well enough for a call-up? I'd figure JK would have the perfect opportunity to give Boyd/Agudelo more of a chance. Heck if Bruin/McInerney were scoring, they could use these 2 matches as the perfect chance to show what they got.
He has if USMNT games are the barometer. If MLS, not so much. He's been good but not great lately. In part that's because the Quakes just aren't very good right now. As to your other candidates, I saw JackMac in person on Sunday and while I can see why some rate him - he's fast - quick trigger - he's also very young and makes bad decisions. He was offsides like 3 times in that game, against a second tiered EQ defense, and was pulled after a yellow card, no shots on target, and when his team was a man up. He's probably going through a tough time right now but if your coach yanks you when you need a goal, well that's not a good sign. Agudelo has played well and might deserve a look, but he's coming off an injury, no? Bruin I think is in the same post USMNT camp funk that JackMac is in. Boyd probably gets a look too? At the end of the day I think on the evidence of this last qualifier we'll be taking to Brazil Landon and Clint and Jozy and EJ and one other. That's probably Johanasen if the media are right in their assessment of him. (Everyone seems to rate him. But everybody also liked "CATS" the musical too.)
Right now Jozy, EJ, and Bacon are the forwards going to the WC. Given that JK likes to play one FW with the A-team I only see us taking three. IMO very little chance Wondo goes to WC. If for some reason JK takes 4 forwards, then he's got a chance, but he's going to have to fight off Boyd, Bruin, Agudelo, Herculez. I think the door is closing on Wondo.
I think that Altidore and GAM are locks - and Johannsson is a lock assuming he shows well over the run-up to the cup. He's got to score a couple to validate the assumptions everyone has about him being a cut above the next tier of forwards. After that, whether or not Klinnsman takes a fourth will depend on how the last 3-4 positions play out - depending on injuries and form elsewhere in the squad, he may have more or less need for specific depth at forward. Obviously Dempsey and Donovan can play there, but if something happens like Zusi blowing out an ACL, then maybe Klinnsman decides that Donovan is strictly a midfielder, and he takes an extra forward rather than another winger. I'd expect that the fourth forward would be whoever of the Wondo/Boyd/Gomez/Aguadelo group is most in form. If Wondo has a dozen goals by the time Klinnsman has to submit the roster, and the others are stone cold, then he'd probably be on the team. But at this point in time, it's pointless to say that someone is or is not a lock that far down the depth chart - it'll all be based on form, if it comes to that.
