Ha. I think some here are missing the forest for the trees. We win a complicated game against a direct rival who showed up prepared with all the pressure of qualification in front of us. In other years, we lose this game. We choke. A lesser man than Falcao doesn't even fly home for the game knowing he is hurt, much less play in the rain. Winners win. They win ugly. They win pretty. It doesn't matter. We used to play pretty and not get results. Pekerman may have blown the starting lineup, but he got the win. Heroic from Falcao to show up given conditions and have an impact and huge from James given what's been going on in Monaco. We can tie or lose pretty another day, but a win is what I wanted.
You should tell that to my step-dad; he wouldn't stop cursing angrily at how we didn't score another goal. I tried to explain to him that winning is more than enough, no matter how many goals we score.
Thinking this a bit after the game is true. Ecuador had 1 shot, and we had at least 5. Can't play too bad with those stats. We can improve though, so that is important to note.
When is Pekerman going to use our BEST BEST players all at once? I honestly want to see him do that with Uruguay!
he is being doing just that he is using the best best players/lineups he consider correct for the team he has in front of him... Or you think he just love to give us heart attacks? lol
Well he made MANY questionable choices with the World Cup squad that many in Argentina still criticize even today. Despite the fact that he's a genius, they themselves have had serious issues with his choices in lineups.
Mostly having to do with his defensive choices. I heard that he left out two of their best best defender at the time from the 2006 world cup.
ok i didnt hear anything about his defensive choices so i dont know... the only one i heard was the Riquelme- Messi and at that moment Riquelme was one of the best players in the world while messi was an interesting player with lots of potential
I'm with Ryu on this one. A two goal win would have tied us with Argentina for first (on goal differential). A win just about qualifies us, minimum the playoff. A tie would have been hard to accept but wouldn't of been the end of the world. We all act like we lost, LOL!!! We've lost pretty plenty of times in the last 16 years. I don't mind winning ugly for a change.
A proposito.
Haha how funny would it be for Mexico to have a Colombian coach!! Rueda with Mexico would be awesome!! Imagine what he could do with them!!!
you know i actually like that idea and after seeing how good Colombian coaches are doing in Concacaf we might see that
The Good: -We won -Revenge against Ecuador for beating us at their place -James getting his goal and playing smart throughout the match -Ospina being able to get up and finish the match after that hit. I would have taken him out just to make sure but he battled through. -Perea actually surprised me today and had a mistake prone game and handled himself well. -Falcao. Yes I know he didn't score but be links up so well with James and had plenty of chances that were close. -Cuadrado's stint off the bench. I really like when this guy plays, provides a more direct and creative outlet on the wing. The Bad: -Our play was embarrassing in front of our home fans. Where was the effort by the players in that second half? -Lazy ass passing I saw today. Think it through first! -Sanchez's yellow was terrible. We caught such a break on that one. He really misjudged that ball and almost ruined the night. -Teo had a quiet game with not much to show for it. A few food looks aside it was a poor performance. -Our fullbacks from Napoli. Zúñiga didn't help much offensively when we needed width early on and Armero was diving too much for my liking although he hustles well and that bridge move was awesome. The Ugly: -Ecuador plays with one less guy and were away (another disadvantage but even more for Ecuador) and still showed more intensity and passion for a good part of the game. They came close a few times when we should have been controlling and finding different tactics -Macnelly Torres. Why does he play over the likes of Cuadrado, Guain, Quintero, et. Baffles me completelt. Obvioubsly the qualify of the pitch influenced our play tonight. The question is to what extent? This team needs to be focused for every game no matter what is happening if it wants to make a statement next year in Brazil.
I don't have nothing to add regarding Ryu's comment. I don't understand the complaining guys: Even when we win it's not good ebough?!?!? After the 0-5 vs. Argentina, Maradona said that the qualifiers is the hardest tournament, even more then the world cup itself. And he's right. The pressure to qualify is huge, especially for us after 16 years and when we have the highest paid head coach in South America. We won, we secure at least playoff berth and we are 1 point away from qualifying directly. Do you guys also forget that Ecuador is one of the top 10 NT in the world? Did we play vs. Malta or something?? come on!! I couldn't disagree more. What was emberrassing exactly? the fact that we played vs. a top 10 Nt in the world? the fact that the situation of the pitch helped much more to Ecuador then to Colombia? and it's not that we didn't create chances. What about Teo's incredible miss? or 2-3 good saves from Banguera? As for Zuñiga and Armero, they used to take advantage their speed in order to make some counter attacks or dribble, but the pitch yesterdat didn't allow us to play our usual game, so I wouldn't worry too much. Bottom line, we got the 3 pouints in a game that we would loss in the past. Celebrate it!
Everyone should just celebrate. We are essentially in the World Cup baring some strange miraculous choke job. As for the match itself it reminded me a bit of the Venezuela match in which Perea gave them the point in Barranquilla. We dominated chances but their Keeper and the post helped them out big time. Only difference is Under Perkerman we still find ways to win. (And it helped Ayovi's penalty was taken so poorly.) On to Uruguay.
Not a fun game to watch but the stadium was a puddle which killed our quick pass game. Good -James is a Demi-God and saves us in our time of need. 21 years old has scored 3 goals in 15 games in yellow. We playd like shit yesterday and against Peru away but who was there to save us? Lets not forget his free kick goal against Chile - we won - we won playing badly - we qualified Bad - 2 games and Rueda out coached Pekerman - why did he start Falcao!!! He couldn't run!!! Jackson/Bacca/Muriel should have started - what exactly does Macnelly do in this team? Never see him do shit - the subs?? Way too late - why is Mondragon our 2nd goalie? - why is Perea a sub our 2nd Captain? - Pekerman has his main squad and is stubborn about switching no matter what form the guys are in
The good thing that we 'won ugly' is that it's giving an obvious lesson to Pekerman in what needs to be done. He's not going to go lightly against Uruguay and I do hope that he uses our 'best' players properly.
I would like to see quintero james cuadrado on the pitch at the same time, I dont care how it happens but it would be interesting,as well as give us so many options offensively. If Pekerman goes into the WC with his current lineup i don't think we'll reach our truest potential....at the moment we have too much talent riding the bench.
