I am a huge fan of Mariano Bollella, but where has he been?
He was a point scoring machine last year and got off to a good start this year, but he has not scored a point in the last 4 games.
In fact,he only has 2 assists since Ughy got hurt. This is a big reason why the offense is having trouble. I remember in the home game against the Wave Bollella had many chances and he was missing the net. I wonder if he is playing hurt. Him not coming up with assists and not putting his shot on the net is not like him at all.

His season stats are decent--5 goals and 8 assists. But he's going to be 37 years old next month. Age may be a factor.

He had a five-game pointless streak last year. It happens.

4everstorm, I'm not a soccer expert like Kenn, but I'll try in my feeble manner to provide some additional insights. Bollella was the team leader in assists last year with 24. Ughy being out and the other players struggling gives him fewer assist opportunities. You've noticed Bollella missing some shots he should have hit. Maybe he feels more pressure to score goals with Ughy out and the team in a scoring slump and that's affecting him adversely. He may be more comfortable being a playmaker than a goal scorer. Again, I'm just trying my best to add to the discussion. I know I can never match the wisdom, insightfulness and in-depth analysis of comments like "It happens."

Sometimes the simple explanation is the right one. One doesn't always have to draw x's and o's and look for deeper meanings or psychoanalyze players you don't know.

Players go through periods when they don't play as well. Sometimes it's just that simple.

Here is what I know which in next to zero:

Bollella and Ball do not like each other, now you add Farias to the mix that doesn't like Ball or Bollella.

Farias has never seen a shot he doesn't like to take.

Ball struggling so bad in the midfield that he is moved to defender. Ball is a very good distributor and may be better served in the midfield setting up Farias for better shots. But Ball does like Chile or Mariano, thus his poor play.

If Morris can pull off keeping the three of these guys on the same page he should be coach of the year.

I truly feel this threesome will have a melt-down before the end of the year. Also Ughy is a great player but he is prone to injury. Ughy being the only true target shows it was a major mistake to leave Handsor un-protected.

8-3 start is a fantastic start for the Storm, I see them finishing 17-13 as the older legs get heavy and only one more game against the league bye named Orlando.

I would be interesting in what the team's record was in his 5 game scoreless drought , I would be sure that was when the team was having their slump.

My bad, I was looking in the wrong column. Mariano had a five-game assistless (is that a word?) streak, not pointless streak, last season.

They went 2-3 in that streak. But he still managed a goal in there.

That said, Bollella took 18 shots (3 per game) when Ughy was in there and has taken 13 (2.6 per game) since Ughy has been out, so he doesn't appear to be pressing to score goals without the big fella in there.

It's a valid point that you can't get an assist if the other guys can't finish your passes, and not having Ughy out there would probably be a hindrance to a playmaker.

Chicago scored on 35 of their first 132 shots (27%) in the six games before Ughy's injury.

In the last five games (without Ughy), they've scored on 18 of their 112 shots (16%).

Ughy himself had scored on 7 of his 15 shots, so, yeah, they miss the big guy's finishing, it would appear.

That in-depth enough for you, Larry?

Yep, the Stats do show that when Bollella is playing well, the team plays better.
I would think that if Farias is a ball hog,the chances for assists for Bollella would be there if he got on the field more with Chilie .

I think you're right on target with the 17-13 prediction for the Storm. I noticed after a New Jersey goal in the Ironmen-Storm game last month that Bollella and Farias were yelling at each other at the center line before the Storm kicked off. There may be too many head cases on the Storm this season. And not enough quality defenders. I think they really miss Gaston Pernia.

The other thing to remember is this: Bollella is the oldest player on the team. Age has a way of catching up with you.

Bollella and Farias have been yelling at each other for ten years. It's just the way they do business.

There's a man who leads a life of danger
To everyone he meets he stays a stranger
With every move he makes another chance he takes
Odds are he won't live to see tomorrow

Secret agent man, secret agent man
They've given you a number and taken away your name

Beware of pretty faces that you find
A pretty face can hide an evil mind
Ah, be careful what you say
    Or you'll give yourself away
Odds are you won't live to see tomorrow

Not giving your real name on discussion threads in general is probably a good idea.

That's fine. Whatever someone wants to do.

But when you have an email account and make up a name for that...I don't know what to make of that.

Then again, I'm not really afraid to put my name to what I say. Others have their own reasons, which is fine.

To not reveal too much online to keep unwanted online folks from crossing into the offline world is a good idea. To keep unwanted offline folks from crossing over online is the same. Nobody wants to be stalked by nutsos.
I think you and PW and others who are open about your identity are brave and all, just not something I'm willing to do. Too many nutsos.

He might have an ex he doesn't want want to hear from or whatever.

Back to the topic. I think the Storm have talented players right now, including Bollella, but there is just something not synching that prevents them from winning more. If I had the answer, I would tell Brian or Steve.

I was a bit paranoid when I opened the Yahoo account because I had seen some Yahoo political groups where people really made some visious comments to one another, far worse than comments that are made here. But I should have stricken the "Larry" psuedonym from the e-mail.
