Was having this discussion with RoleModel over lunch and agree with most of his list. One point I would make: for having the 2nd smallest market, I feel like Crew having a supporters group(s) on the top half (especially in away trips and TIFO) is pretty damn impressive.
4-5 years ago people talked about Toronto the way people talk about Seattle and Portland nowadays. Seattle has found some success, but Portland has not. I wonder how it will go if Portland goes years struggling (although I think it will be impossible to struggle as bad as TFC has). If they don't win some things, they could be ranked 13th 4-5 years from now.
DC - 8th in population, 3rd in the rankings. Just imagine what they would do with a stadium built after Pope John XXIII's excommunication of Fidel Castro (1962), assassination of JFK (1963), Woodstock (1969), the Iranian hostage crisis (1979-81), the fall of the USSR (1991), and so on and so forth. With a new stadium, they'd easily be the class of the league.
...and the girl who has zero commitment to anything crew still whines about me. I am amused about how you somehow think you are still relevant.
First class move by NYRB supporters. Kudos to metroflip73, patfan1 and others for organizing this. Red Bulls to Honor Victims of Boston Marathon Tragedy Before Saturday's Match "Leading up to the match, the South Ward supporters - Empire Supporters, Garden State Ultras and Viking Army - will be marching into Red Bull Arena alongside the New England Revolution supporters, displaying the banner that they used during Wednesday's match."
I can honestly say that I had nothing to do with it (finally stepped down from my role a couple of years ago), but am very much looking forward to participating in this march. It means a lot to those of us from Boston.
I feel that our supporter section is still good but it feels like its on the decline when others are going to opposite way. I'm going to hate to see what it looks like in 5 years.
Originality? This is from Timbers Army website. Wouldn't exactly call it original. Whoa-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh-ohh! Whoa-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh-oh-ohh! Keep it up, Rose City! Don’t let up, no pity! Keep it up, Rose City! Whoa-oh-oh-oh-ohh! Or YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE At the 80th minute You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are gray You’ll never know dear, how much I love you So please don’t take my sunshine away OR Bella Ciao ” Our lyrics are adapted from Chumbawamba’s version of the song OR CAN’T HELP FALLING IN LOVE At the 85th minute Wise men say – Only fools rush in But I can’t help falling in love with you Take my hand – Take my whole life too ‘Cause I can’t help falling in love with you OR MENTAL AND GREEN Tune: “You are my Sunshine” We are the Portland – The Portland Timbers We are mental – And we are green We are the greatest – Football supporters That the world has ever seen. Don't get me wrong, they are loud and the way that stadium is built really makes it sound good. But they are far from original. My 2cents
