If we win, we are through. If we tie, we are through. If we lose by 1, Jamaica will need to win by 2 to catch us on goal diff; however, if we lose 1-0 and Jamaica wins 2-0, we still go through on goals scored. So really Jamaica needs a 3 goal win.
I'm praying that Fabian is able to make it back by Tuesday. But I'm not to worried we should dominate possession and the fact that we will be playing on a proper field should give us an advantage.
I think Mike was mainly upset about the scissor kick from behind on his ankle. But, I also think he was ticked off that the team was close to loosing to A and B.
thanks .. I saw it from behind but did not realize it was scissors. He just kept going at the player multiple times ... I almost wonder if he wanted the ref to card him to get the point across. He was pretty livid .. and he is usually a cool customer.
tommie smith raked usa but i think it was more ireland got hammered by germany when does tyhe hex schedule gets announced when mexico mathces get played are critial next, russia....they can defend
We got the three points. That is all that matters. and... Eddie freakin' Johnson. Welcome back Eddie!
Nah, Ms. Lewis had a wicked cross. Was talking about the recent squads. Specs is only 27 or so, right?
The love handles on the A&B goal keeper were wider than the pitch. Am I right? That guy looked like a human waterbed in that kit. Some good saves in there, not that we poked at him much. People just arent understanding how difficult it is to break teams down, especially athletic ones on a pitch with no space in the driving rain. ManCity regularly looks crap even though they keep 70% possession because they are trying to break down a bunkering team. In the last 10 minutes the game opens up a bit and JUST LIKE THAT, we get a score. We just needed a bit of space and some flow to the match.
Watching on TV, I thought those were dirt patches. Wow. Well, that explains why everyone was moving so slowly.
and then the announcers later said, with a chuckle, "it's legal" leading anyone listening to question whether or not it really was legal.
No no, it was Klinsi's fault. All that yoga and incense had them dreaming about beautiful meadows and Scarlett Johansson. No wonder we only got out of there with 3 points. Fire Jergen now!
Oh and I forgot to add, the field was freakin tiny!!! There was no width at all. It was not a soccer pitch and they lined it so it was JUST barely FIFA minimum size.
we played like shit but a lot of folks here discount just how difficult it was to play "soccer" on a tiny, narrow cow pasture against a bunch of guys who are very strong and athletic.
Yes, the field conditions played a role. No doubt. But the game wasn't really much different from the first match with Antigua, under far better conditions. Tight scoreline very late into the game, between the US National team and the last place team in the USL pro league. If last night's slog was an outlier game, then I'd be more understanding. But last night's performance fit hand-in-glove with the general pattern under Klinsi. Anemic offense, few good chances created. Very low score. It happens over and over under good conditions and bad conditions, at home and on the road, even against really weak opponents. I don't like the pattern. This wasn't a one-off fluke.
Some thoughts now that I'm sober: ► From the middle of the 2nd half on we did very well moving the ball up a very congested (narrow) field ► We did well possessing the ball, and moving it out from the back against a team that was pressuring pretty well, on a pitch that was one part pasture-land and one part slip-and-slide. ► Michael Bradley might be the most dangerous player we have. He could have easily had two. ► Eddie Johnson could have had a few more. Gomez tried mightily, but I'm not sure the field conditions played to his strengths. ► This was a well played game, minus the part where Cameron got beat like a drum for that A&B goal. I'm not sure I can single out a single player who disappointed (given the conditions). If I were forced (at gunpoint) to single out one it would probably be Bocanegra. He seemed a little slow in the first half, he was partially responsible for the A&B goal. But even there.... I'm not entirely sure why certain soccer writers are grading the whole team with 5s and 6s? One wonders if they even watched the game. ► A&B were really fun to watch, and played quite well. I'm not sure how much trouble they're going to cause in the next qualifying cycle, and of course it's hard to predict how a team will do from week to week much less 4 years down the line. But they were fast on the counters, linked together well, took decent shots. And this from a bunch of players who either play lower league UK or for the worst team in the NASL.
