Did you read that story? I believe the number was 51 million pounds of which the attributed 32 to Zlatan. That means Silva was only 19... That makes no sense and Silvio turned down 46 million euros which is about 36 million pounds last month, no? On top of that, after Milan turned down 36 million, Silva extended his contract to like 2017. How did that drop his value by more than 17 million? Either Milan really wants to get rid of Zlatan or something is screwy here.
If he won't sign for them, you are only going to get what they think a one-year term is worth. With his injury record, the amount you are willing to bet on him staying healthy and reproducing his single best year is probably more than 5 million below what City would pay to lock hi up for three years.
And I didn't mean to make my "did you read that story" to infer that you didn't. I was just curious if you saw the story that went into the breakdown of the fees.
Well, I have a feeling that if he doesn't get his big money deal this summer, he wont get anything like it at all next summer, hence why both sides have come out publically recently, so it might force him into putting in a transfer request
I think either a formal transfer request or a retraction will be forthcoming in the next week. He doesn't want to go on a meaningless Asian tour if he is set on leaving and Arsene has no patience for the RvP cloud hanging over the team.
Milan has a boatload of debt they're trying to pay off. That's why their signing so far this offseason have been limited to cheap or free transfers (Traore, Montolivo, Constant, etc). I thought I heard that Silva didn't have any interest in moving. That's why he signed that extension. I'd be surprised to see him go, but I think Zlatan's time might be up in Milan. Dunno who is going to score goals for them now, though....
If he is truly pushing for this, and unwilling to allow the club to find options outside the PL, then I'm all for stringing him up, loading a pitching machine with billiard balls and firing away. This would be prima donna behavior of the worst part by him, so the punishment would be deserved, IMHO. Seriously, if this is the case we best make sure City agrees to terms with him first, at some ungodly rate of 300k per week for 5 years, so that it seriously hampers their FFP viability. Then hit them up for 15M+ in transfer fees. And then when FFP isn't upheld we can all begin noting the downfall of credible football.
"Ibrahimovic is believed to be willing to move for an increase on his €12 million annual salary, while Thiago Silva struck terms with PSG over a €7.5 million-a-year contract in mid-June."
"No, it isn't the dress that makes you look fat, it's the fat that makes you look fat." "I wasn't staring at that woman, I was looking down her shirt," "I need to call in sick today because I am sick of working for you" Honesty doesn't always make you a saint and little white lies to preserve an eight year relationship with fans and a club who have both stood by you doesn't make you a terrible person. He was able to lie about where Ivan was and why he wants a move so, he could have told a few more to preserve any part of this relationship. I get your point but I just think that taking the "it's not you, it's me" high ground would have gotten him to the same place without all of the anger.
Zlatan wants out apparently. Apparently Milan are about to save 108 million euros from those two going. I have no sympathy for Milan tho. They did this to everyone for 20 years.
Posted this in other teams thread as well. "Yes, I've sold Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva to PSG," he told Sky Sport 24. "We will save €150 million over two years."
This is what I find funny, he's only being 'honest' because he's trying to make his position untenable so he gets his move without having to put in a transfer request. In reality, honesty is the furthest thing from his and his agents minds This idea that he's doing it as the honourable option is simply laughable.
Curious to see if he is doing this for the reason players do it so often - money. Make a stink and the club sells you? Loyalty bonus due in full to the player who "got" sold. File a formal transfer request and the club sells you? Loyalty bonus is null and void. If so, that change anyone's view on his laudable honesty?
Is there anyone left anywhere in this world that believes there is ever any valid reason to do something apart from financial benefit?
DC United signed Branko Boskovic a few seasons ago as its designated player. He showed up fat and out of shape and the moment he started to show some signs of life he got his ACL blown out from a dirty tackle. His contract just came up for renewal and he signed for a lesser salary. I'm sure there's a cynical take on his situation (player in his early 30's coming off a major injury, not likely to attract serious money offers from Europe) but he was playing well right before he signed the new contract and I imagine it wouldn't be hard to beat a $500,000 salary in Europe even for a player in his situation. All reports indicate he signed the new contract because he felt he had seriously underperformed and felt he had something to prove. Vermaelen's situation extending his contract at Arsenal was fairly similar. Some players with a significant injury history do feel they owe something to their teams and are willing to prove their worth when they might be able to make more money elsewhere.
Fernando Redondo did something similar after he moved from Real Madrid to AC Milan and proceeded to blow out his knee in his first training session and didn't play a game for almost 3 years. He supposedly stopped taking his salary and tried to give back the car and house that the club had given him. Unfortunately that kind of thing is incredibly rare.
I could give you a neg rep, if I wanted too, .....I know people, that can get inside your computer. However, 500 internet points, or a round on me, at my local, says you're wrong.
I'm not sure which thread to post this on, so I'll just do it here. Does anyone have news on the status of Arteta and Wilshere's injury recovery? I'm assuming they are good to go after rehabbing all summer? I just hadn't heard anything further on it since the season ended...
Well, Arteta has been training with the full squad so I think it's safe to say he is back healthy. Not sure about Wilshere, but Arseblogger seems to think he will miss the start of the season.
I gotta say, as transfer sagas go this one is particularly muted. Normally you can't shake it from the headlines, but aside from the Grimandi quotes there's really been nothing for a week and a half from any party that is or could be involved.
I don't think money is the only reason. But you honestly think he looks at City and just thinks "prestige! trophies!" and that 200k+ a week doesn't factor at all? But then again, you'd probably have to pay me that much to share a lockerroom with the likes of Balotelli, Nasri and Tevez. Anyways, we're beating a dead horse at this point.
