While not impossible, I think it highly unlikely that Villa goes down. For that to happen, THREE teams have to pass them. Wigan and Bolton could. But Blackburn and QPR won't, or at least I don't think they will. The key team is QPR. I think they max out at 37 points, as I don't see them taking any points chelsea or @Man City. And their goal differential is inferior to Villa's.

So... as long as Villa can manage a single point in their last three games, I think they survive. And if they can't, they are not worthy of survival.

Tottenham and Norwich are the only teams left. I think we will barely make it and McLeish will get fired. Even if we don't get relegated the fans will still want McLeish sacked. Sunday there will be a massive protest against McLeish. Lerner will have to listen.

I think we stay up by a point. The only way we go down is if QPR manages to beat Stoke City and then Man City. Otherwise, its QPR and Blackburn to go down with Wolves.

Hoping for a draw with Wigan and Blackburn

Our GD is what keep us up... its like a 1/2 point

Black Burn would need 6 points and make up 14 goals on Villa. They are down

QPR needs to BEAT stoke, hope for a point from city, and or make up 9 goals...

Well we're definitely safe now. Hoping McLeish gets the sack within 24 hours of the Norwich game. If that does (finally) happen this could be an exciting summer for us. Anyone have a favorite for the next manager? Is Martinez still a possibility with Wigan staying up? If not I'm hoping for Lambert.

We have been linked with Andre Villas-Boas, Martinez, Lambert, and Brighton's manager (I have no clue why).

"If Villa do go down, I fear a period of Middlesbrough-esque stagnation," McGowan said. Even the most optimistic post-relegation forecasts depend on retaining the services of players such as Benteke and Andreas Weimann, as well as the continued (accelerated, even) development of the likes of Bannan, Ciaran Clark and Marc Albrighton. All of this will have to be done without the tens of millions of pounds that Premier League status alone brings. And then McGowan poses the question that is nagging away at Villa fans.

"If Lerner won't invest now, to safeguard the club's Premier League future, when will he?"

    Pretty much sums it up......

Rotoworld.com (a fantasy sports site) has written a "Summer Priorities" article for Aston Villa..

It provides a brief overview of the season, as well as the rising players worth keeping, and those that are declining/on the way out.

Decent read.. Not overly deep or thought provoking, but informative all the same.

Article can be found here: http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/bpl/43625/366/summer-priorities-aston-villa

I think if we keep Benteke, Villa will have a great season. I hope we sign Kiyotake because Sylla, Westwood and Kiyotake would make a great midfield. Then we'd have Gardner and Delph as depth.

Benteke seems like a bit of a spoiled player.. I am admittedly not overly familiar with his past, but gather that he basically forced his exit from Genk, and some were concerned he would do the same with Villa.. And until very recently, it was looking exactly like that.

I've seen this a lot in American leagues.. Hold outs, trade demands, and with American football approaching, the refusal to attend training camp.

It's disappointing to see, and I think it shows a lot about one's character. I tend to think that it's a great privilege to play any sport at the professional level, and it comes off as being very childish to essentially throw a tantrum unless a player gets exactly what they want.

I also am very curious how these antics affect the team chemistry after the player does end up returning to the team he so desperately wants to leave.

Beyond that, I'm just glad they they avoided relegation last year. It was a bit surreal that they were facing it in the first place, but it does seem that improvement is likely as Lambert appears to have them going in the right direction.

The more I read about Lambert's approach to coaching and respect for work ethic and consistency, the more I like him. It's nice to see, as professional athletes are often able to go into cruise control mode after getting big money, and only get back on the gas when their contract is up again.

Benteke definitely is acting like a spoiled brat. When Villa wanted to sign him, Gent wanted more money but Benteke went on strike. He refused to play saying that he wanted to go play in England. He got to Villa so happy and Lambert put so much faith in him. Lambert really turned a mediocre striker in Belgium to a world class striker. Now Benteke wants to say thanks for everything Villa did by asking for a transfer request. Sylla is really good friends with Benteke and he has made it public that he is trying to convince Benteke to stay.

As for Lambert, I really like him. He is a good coach. He is such a professional in the way he handles himself and the team. He has completely changed Villa from an aging team to a young team with tons of talent. Benteke needs to realize that Villa's squad could easily be a champions league contender again in the next few years. All of Villa's players are under 28 now.

Benteke withdraws transfer request and extends contract. Good strategy by Lambert to price him out of the range teams were willing to pay.

I read that this morning and felt so relieved. Whatever Lambert said told him must have stuck. Good job Lambert!

Ideally Benteke is able to get over his case of happy feet and be a be a good little striker the rest of the way. The team looks promising and should improve as Lambert has another year to clean up the mess that was left for him.

Well, certainly nowhere to go but up in the table. AV finished strong last year, I hope it shows they'll be better in the coming season.

Good luck on Wednesday. Your pace frightens the hell out of me with our back four without Luiz.

Think you lot are in for a good season.

Thanks. I am just hoping for a good match. Last year Chelsea embarrassed us badly but I don't think that'll be the case this year. If Lukaku starts up top for Chelsea, there is no way the defense will be able to handle him. Might be a large scoring match from both sides.

Same for Benteke. But I'm more worried about Abonglahor and his pace against our paceless center. Again, good luck, very much looking forward to the match.
