i don't know that he thought about leaving something in the tank. i think he just tends to be aware of the running of his wingers and tend to take them out earlier. he used to do the same with/to walcott.

A score draw is a great result in this game. Still hoping for a better one.

serie a is a very weak league compared to what it was before, milan labour to victories on the back of ibra with a slow lumbering side enjoying inters decline and competing with a flawed juve team at the top....they lost a cl spot for a reason! watching paint dry is more intresting

we should beat ac, boeteng is about as athletic as that midfield gets and he is injured i believe? (he's also a twat)

zlatan and robinho are the only players who can cause trouble and robinho is a bottler, pato enjoys the booze too much and i'm not sure if zlatan ios fit?

Goal.com saying we may start Song at CB with Kos and leave TV5 out left. Play Rosicky, Arteta and Ramsey in the middle

I agree. A lot of optimism around here. In the last 7 away games, Arsenal have won 2, lost 4, and drawn 1. In the CL this year, we did not win any of our games by more than 1 goal.

Let's see a solid result against a good team that puts us in a good spot for the home leg.

Milan are not a slow side bigman, especially since Pirlo is gone. The Ghetto Kid is a big reason for that but then again he may not 100% to go 90 minutes.

Robinho is a terrible finisher, the unknown is Stephen El Shaarawy for me. He is young but very very very talented.

when i saw them they wern't particularly quick, van bommel, ambrosini, seedorf etc

italian football is so shit to watch.....

el shaaarway scored vs udinese the other night, looked like milan laboured to it though, i'm not convinced in their defence either

Im not saying they will win, just saying they arent slow.

and the premiership's quality has fallen by the wayside too, lol.

It will be a tough match, even with Milan's defense being slow (i agree there, I was more about their midfield and attack) its not like we score goals by the bucketloads either.

I'm extremely pumped for this game. Champions League games are so damn exciting.

Win or lose I have a really good feeling about this tie. We seem to play better in this tournament. Well, at least this year.

Just for kicks (lamentation actually) I looked up the Match-Day & Post-Match threads from the last time we played ACM@SanSiro 4Mar2008 in CL R16.

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=664822&highlight=Milan
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=666005&highlight=Milan

If anyone has more time than me to read through these, it would be an interesting time capsule on where AFC were back then, what has and hasn't changed.

But personally I was just curious to compare the volume of posts from 2008, and it shows:

    * 150 posts in MD thread 2.5 hrs before KO (compared to 93 now... not bad)
    * 830 posts in MD thread when it closed next morning
    * 143 posts in Post-match thread

Something tells me we're not going to get up to 973 posts about today's match at SanSiro, but come on guys prove me wrong. ;)

Flamini has been out all season, I think he tore his ACL in preseason.

Of the potential starters, I'd really only label Van Bommel and maybe Nesta and Seedorf as really lacking pace. Nocerino, Abate, Emanualson, El Shaarawy, Yebda, Boateng, Tiago Silva, Mexes, Robinho, Pato, and Ibrahimovic make for a much more athletic team than Milan put out in 2008. Should be a great matchup.

Seeing as the new order means that the games are spread out over about 4 weeks I'll be watching this one tonight. I'm interested in seeing if Wenger goes with Ox in attack - he could be very dangerous if he is given a chance I feel. Arsenal are also great to watch especially with him playing IMO - he's just one of those players that is exciting to watch.

I'm going to go with 2-1 to Arsenal or 1-1

EDIT - Also, isn't it a shame.. I used to remember watching the CL and getting scared when my team was playing against Milan, Roma, Juventus and co.. the Italian teams have just lost their fear factor in the last 5 years

Agreed. There's something special knowing you are amongst the last 16 elite European clubs playing in the most prestigious club tournament in the world. And I happen to love the Champions League anthem. It still gives me chills. Two hours and counting...
