Huntley High School sent 8 kids on full rides to division 1A schools and a 9th kid on a partial.

On my oldest kids team at least 4 will get full rides if they do not get hurt and continue to love the game... These are 12 & 13 year olds who Batata has placed on the National Team.

I think it's easier for the girls then the boys when it comes to college.

I doubt all if any of those girls got a full ride. Full scholarships are very rare in D1 soccer. Most schools have 11 total scholarships to hand out for 22 players

Look, the Magic can roster whomever they want, as long as they don't break any rules. They clearly want to re-establish themselves as the best youth club. I just don't think that winning youth titles for the sake of it means that you are the best youth club. Plus, winning State Cups has less value today than say 10 years ago.

I've seen plenty of very good young players at U10, U11 and U12. Then something happens and when you see them playing still at U16, U17, U18, after they have won a few State Cups, possibly Regionals, maybe even been to Nationals, these good players now play awful soccer. So the titles they won didn't necessarily make them better players at the older age groups. Then they go off to college (scholarship or not) and then mamma mia, even worse.

Parents, coaches, clubs obsesses about these youth titles as if they are be all end all. I would like to see top youth clubs post videos on their websites of their players and teams playing good soccer. Here, this is how we play and this is how we want our up-and-coming players/teams to play, this what we are about. Not this is what we've won, we sent this and that player to this or that College. But I guess that wound't sell......

Everywhere else in the World, there are many kids who dream about playing pro, regardless of what country and environment they grow up in, and regardless of how realistic that dream can be. Only in US people are afraid of kids having that dream or God for bit that possibility. Why? I thought US is the country of unlimited possibilities.

I can see your point to some extent though, seeing that you have two daughters. The reality of the WPS makes the pro dream for little girls insignificant. But let's be real, even if the WPS was in a much better state, how many girls would really dream of becoming a pro soccer player? My guess would be not that many.

Yes, I would also agree that MLS/WPS need to make it more financially appealing to young kids to dream and pursue a pro career. However, I don't think there is so much lack of resources, but they are rather misused.

Get over what? Give me a break. Winners win - that's just an absolute joke. All the other teams are fielding kids from their own program, Sockers would never bring in a "guest" player. And neither would the vast majority of the other clubs. This business of guesting kids to win, is just to post championships on the website to lure more kids and more dollars. There's nothing to get over, it's very, very blatantly obvious.

Tell you what UofIneedssoccer, you should get over feeling so proud about the sham.

I have no dog in this fight. As I said winners win so just beat them . It is really simple

LM is the first coach who has ever told me he was good with the players he has. EVER. In over 20 years coaching in Chicago area. First one.

    I was astonished.

Every other youth coach in this area wants every decent kid they can get their hands on.

That's all good and all, but you need to keep in mind that LM doesn't have the final word.....though it probably would be good if he did. Also is he coaching the 12s and 13s?

Seriously doubt it. I have had heard so much BS in this area to not believe any full scholarship stories. And I have a son that actually got a desperation full ride offer. We knew that it was likely to be later configured as a combination athletic/academic package. There is just is not enough money to go around

To have 8 or 9 players from one club get full ride athletic department scholarship offers would strain credibility; to have a high school claim such a feat is pure nonsense. Knowing the demographic of the Huntley area, i am sure that financial or academic aid was a component of the "full ride package"
As an example, my son had an offer in which the academic and athletic components were greater than the total cost of attendance. Obviously, since it was preliminary numbers, they would have to be adjusted to conform to NCAA rules. I am sure the athletic dept. would have let the academic folks carry the greater load. The bottom line was that we could of said he was on a full ride because we would not have spent a dime.

I have my own doubts when I hear these stories about kids on full free rides at Colleges. There is this other forum I visit from time to time. There, a certain number of College coaches post frequently and they all admit that there just aren't enough money to give away, either athletically, academically or both. And if and when the money is available, the spots are very very limited. So I'm not very convinced when I hear stories about free rides on soccer scholarships, even if it's in combination with academics.

If you ask me, kids with excellent grades, GPAs and/or test scores should have full free rides (academically) to any school they want. Those kids really need to be rewarded, but I don't think currently they are.

I'm taking full advantage of the beautiful weather and discovered that I love having coffee outside on the deck in the morning, I love driving with the top down and I love watching an outdoor match with a cigar. Congrats to the Magic gang on the U18 win today. I didn't get to stay for the U16 match but from the little I saw, Louis has them going in the right direction.

I am also finding out that I do love a cold beverage. ;)

What a meat grinder on that U18 match eh?

U16s looked good. It was 3-0 when I left midway through the second half

Totally off the subject however looking for some info. Rumor out there is that there were a number of coaches who left the Soccers (not sure if that even is correct) who are starting up a new club? Heading Northwest? And the name being thrown around is Kuba? has anyone else heard this? this is not the first time that I have heard this and just wondering if there is any truth to the rumor and if so - who are the players? Any info would be appreciated - thanks

Thanks, heard rumors last fall about Raptors becoming Magic NW but don't think that will happen. Not a whole lot of choices up here.

In other news, Spartan FC and Glenview SC recently announced that their combined teams for U13 on up will be known as "FC-1 Academy" with a unique brand identity, uniforms, etc.

    http://www.spartanfc.org/news_article/show/139490?referrer_id=233525

Needless to say, the idea is to attract more kids from outside Northbrook and Glenview in order to be competitive at the older ages. Similar to what the Trevians did when they created FC United.

Yeah, that is interesting. We will see how it works out. FC United has been taking some good players from both areas, Northbrook and Glenview. This merger makes sense because of how and why it is being done. I also hear that they are building an indoor facility which will be shared.

Just another mid-tier soccer opportunity for those kids who don't want to play with Sockers or Magic. When they start fielding U13-U15 teams that come anywhere near the competitive level of S/M that should be a red letter day, don't hold your breath. It won't keep the quality players from leaving either as slowly but surely by U13+ they start to trickle out, even to the second teams of S/M. FC United's U13/U14/U15s regularly get hammered by the better teams in Illinois. They field plenty of Northbrook/Glenview kids, this will only dilute an already diluted pool to choose from.

Plainly some families are enamored with an "academy" program even if their kid is on the second or third team. As for kids leaving the top teams of the above-mentioned clubs for the second teams of Sockers or Magic, I haven't seen that. Maybe some were lured only to become part of a large pool of players from teams spread across 3 different counties. There's no question that the top teams at the older ages for Magic / Fire / Sockers are a tier above all other teams in the state. But the trend of other clubs combining to field competitive teams that are a notch below is worth noting. Lots of talented kids who don't want to carpool to practice 45 minutes each way, 3 days a week.

There are no surprises when going to one of the big three teams, in that, I haven't heard of promises being made, only expectations followed by, "we'll see how it goes." all the clubs are trying to earn money, that's the USA plan, unhappy customers aren't a good idea.

*claps hands sarcastically* What a nice thing to say......

How many players from Northbrook and Glenview are playing for Magic or Sockers? I bet you they are not that many. There are definitely more players from that area playing for FC United.

And who cares or says anything about who is hammering who?

This merger between Northbrook and Glenview makes more sense than many other mergers that have happened in Chicago land. At least both suburbs share two High Schools - Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South. Both clubs do not want to see their players leave for "greener grass" somewhere else. Both clubs have some good coaches.

Do you mean to tell me that it is better for players from Northbrook/Glenview to play for FC United or second teams at Magic and Sockers?
