From the BBC: "Everton have completed the signing of Darron Gibson from Manchester United on a four-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee. Gibson, 24, has moved to Everton to become the club's second signing of the January transfer window.... Gibson has a reputation for scoring spectacular goals, netting 10 times in 60 appearances for United.... Gibson's former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, is backing the Irishman to do well at Goodison Park. "I think it's a good move for him," said Ferguson. "He's got terrific ability, Darron, but he knew he wasn't going to be a first-team regular here all the time."" http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/16524150.stm I don't watch too many Man United matches, so I'm wondering where he'd fit in the team. Am I right in thinking Darron might play a role for us similar to that of Fellaini or Rodwell (a defensive midfielder with some attacking abilities). Or might he play a more attacking role -- something similar to that of Tim Cahill?
Here's a link to some more info - I'm not familiar with him.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darron_Gibson
If you're like me and don't know much about Gibson, the following article in a fan-zine provides good info about Darron's strengths and weaknesses: http://cantheyscore.com/2011/02/16/darron-gibson-a-man-united-homegrown-talent-stick-or-twist/
According to the BBC article: Darron Gibson "is the Toffees' second signing this month after they brought Landon Donovan back to Goodison Park from LA Galaxy for a short loan spell." Seems a stretch to me to call Landon a "signing" since LD is only with us a couple of months, but maybe the BBC is just publishing some spin they got from the Toffee's PR guys. By the way, according to another news source "the Derry man had just excelled in the Carling Cup against Wolves -- his arrival yesterday at Everton, for £500,000 on a four-and-a-half-year deal that might eventually be worth just £2m to Manchester United Read more: http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/s...roy-keanes-shadow-16103534.html#ixzz1jOPEBliX
l-dork. Ok I suppose they can argue he was brought in but he's not a signing IMO. It never even crossed my mind to think of him that way before, but I suppose the club has to spin positive publicity however they can.
If Gibson works out he will be another in a long line of proof that Moyes is very awesome in that respect. Just wish the management would wake the ******** up and help him before too late. Oh well ... Tough times to be a blue
Very cheap so we have nothing to lose. He looked good against Aston Villa so I just hope he can go from strength to strength.
Gibo will be a good player for the Toffees. Cheap, and not really much to lose. I think he'll show his stuff after a few games under his belt, but he will truly shine once he has a full preseason with the team. Fellaini, Donovan, Bilyaletdinov, Cahill, Rodwell, Drenthe, Barkley, Gibson, Osman...not bad options. Who starts at full strength?
That's a tough question. I definitely would start Donovan and Drenthe. And even though he has his detractors, I would like to see Osman start. Once our center backs Jagielka and Distin get healthy, Johnny Heitinga will also be available to play at defensive midfield for us, and I consider Johnny to be the best of our defensive-minded holding midfielders. While he had a solid first game for the Toffees, I think it's too early too say Gibson is our first choice for us as defensive midfielder with attacking abilities. Since so many players are out now to injury, Gibson will have at least 2 or 3 games to show whether he deserves to be a regular starter for the Toffees once Rodwell is healthy.
Odd transfer, something tells me a little agreement to ferry Jack the other way has been signed. If only Fergie had given us Macheda or at least some half decent striker. Gibson isn't really needed.
