I rather think its because Japan are the only country in asia with a full pro second division, so if in any other country it would be an amateur team.

Its really an absurd discussion that can only come from an asian country. In europe or southamerica a 2. Division club earning a place in the international competitions would without any discussion be allowed to play there.

Not really, there were the same questions when Chateauroux won the French Cup several years ago. This is a legitimate concern.

Well, it's not like Kyoto Sanga FC is a amateur club, they're fully Pro and had played in the J1.

No its not a legitimate concern at all. Those talking about the issue is only the medias trying to find a story thats not there.

A Cup Winner is a Cup winner end of story.

Now that I think about it, if FC Tokyo wins the Cup, it would create a greater buzz than Kashiwa Reysol, just maybe.
While Kashiwa won both the J2 and J1 title in consecutive seasons, FC Tokyo won the J2, promoted to 2012 J1, and if won, Emperor's Cup Winner and a spot in ACL all in one season.

Nobody thought about taking away their cup, it's just about their ACL berth. If they want to do it that's fine but they have a thin and young roster which is not prepared to play two demanding competitions. They should be allowed to withdraw if they feel they can't do it.

If Kyoto Sanga problems is a weak bench, not enough depth, then how about FC Tokyo? Do they have what it takes?

For what I see the discussion takes place here, not in Japan. And I don't see the point why this is a matter that must be generalized into something 'Asian' as opposed to Europe or S.America.

Apologies for the double-post, but here is the current bracket.

FC Tokyo have a lot more depth to their squad with experienced 'battle-hardened' players. One or two foreign player signings would help their cause and Hirayama will be back. Although still IMO they will struggle in the ACL but I'm confident they won't be slaughtered like Sanga, there are never any easy games in the ACL.

Sanga have a really young team and I don't see any benefit in them getting roughed up in China and Korea and coming home bruised or worse. They should be able to prioritise their J1 aspirations over ACL in the event they win this weekend.

Thanks for those videos Hachiko. Hard to believe that Kubo is only eighteen years old.

If he keeps this up, Yuya Kubo might get called up to the national team down the road. And not just one of the youth sides, either.

Fan-made, of course. But the video, I believe, is official, since that's the only one I can find on YT that contains the anthem.

thanks for clearing it up. I'd seen those J.League, L.League and even national teams, Samurai Blue and Nadeshiko Japan banners with anime characters included, I'd thought it was official. nicely made, though. doesn't J.League have it's own official, cute mascot? everything else in Japan does, from stores to towns to government agencies.

I know FC Tokyo has their own mascot in Tokyo Dorompa, but I don't know for sure if J.League has theirs.
