Jake Pace is a great story. He was a high school star who grew up in the same neighborhood where Sasho Cirovski lives so he was on Maryland's radar early on. Jake always wanted to attend Maryland as he grew up a huge fan of their teams and would be the 4th generation in his family to go to school there. Jake knew it would be tough and that he would get a lot of playing time at other schools that were recruiting him, but he really wanted to go to Maryland. He was red-shirted his freshman year and got very little playing time last year. Last night's game was the most he has ever played. Over the past three seasons, Jake has worked his tail off and displayed a tough, positive attitude. It's really nice to see a kid with such an unbreakable spirit have such a great night.

RE Wake: 4 goals and did they even manage 10 shots on goal?

deacs played well...the kids hopefully learned a good lesson on game management...unfortunately the deacs defense really won't be recognized for a very good effort because of the scoreline...but just the fact they scored and scored convincely was a MAJOR victory for these kids;) hopefully this was a big hurdle for the team and the deacs will build off this.

This conference has a lot to offer come cup time. Quite exiting to watch. Impressed with Virginia as they appear to be finding their rhythm. It's gonna be crazy come Acc tournament.

A hat-trick is a terrible thing to waste.

There's no shame in losing to Wake Forest at their place, but giving up FOUR goals to an offense averaging less than a goal a game is just plane embarrassing. I know UVa has a freshman 'keeper but their defense has too much experience to be this poor.

Regardless, congrats to the Deacs. This is a good win for them and should help both their RPI and their chances for an at-large bid.... not to mention their goals-per-game average. ;)

You're impressed with them after allowing four goals to a team averaging less than a goal a game?

The Maryland-Duke game was a lot of fun. GREAT crowd, absolutely phenomenal.

A lot of emotion on the field and it got a little chippy at times but also some nice displays of soccer at times, too.

As good as Wenger and Townsend and Stertzer, etc... are the best player on the field IMO was Sunny Jane. He scored the first goal, set up the play that led to the PK for the second and assisted the third... then got tossed.

He doesn't have stats as gaudy as others but he might be the most talented player in the ACC. Jane is just a playmaker and he oozes skill. Needs to be more disciplined tactically, but he has a really bright future.

The scoreline was 3 nil deacs in the 2nd half...the cavs scored a legit goal on the corner...then got a questionable pk and the deacs gave up a soft goal with 6 secs left after the deacs sub'd out their keeper with 2 mins left in the game...just saying the cavs goals were not real convincing

Perhaps this was discussed on the broadcast, but Jane is now suspended for the ACC game of the year (Md @ UNC next Friday). Hope the ref got that one right.

I was watching online and didn't see him do anything. A fan who was there in person said the word was that Sunny spit. Sasho immediately protested the red and earned a yellow himself.

    Re: Sunny Jane

What I heard was that he was simply spitting as athletes are wont to do, and apparently it hit a Duke player in view of the referee, who brandished the red. Very quick to judge, and if it does take Sunny out of the game against UNC, it's a big loss.

Yeah, it had to have been unintentional. The game wasn't chippy at that point, and Sunny isn't at all a dirty.

I am very comfortable saying that, stats aside, he has been our best player this season. He is our catalyst.

Sunny can be one of the most electric players in the ACC any time he wants. It's going to be immensely hard to replace his skills against UNC.

Watching it on the Net, the referee made a motion that an elbow was thrown... at least that's what I saw.

With Jane out of the UNC match, big loss for Maryland but I had Maryland loosing to UnC anyhow during the regular contest but Maryland wins the ACC tourny. Nothing has changed my view on how this is all going to turn out. Dan Metzger is going to get a LOT of Minutes now, true frosh who has some very good skills. If Shinsky is healthy then I'm sure Sasho is going to get him going as well. Fun stuff huh down the stretch.

Jane is the best player for Sasho since Maurice Edu ... my nickle for the gum ball machine.

BC can turn all of this upside down - That BC @ Virginia game is a tough call in my book . If Virginia runs the table they could slip in front of MD off the head to head.

Of course this could all be rubbish in no time.....

A- UNC v NC State / VA Tech
    B- MD v Clemson
    C- VA v BC
    D Duke - Wake

    ACC Tournament Semifinals

More about their offensive output. The defense at some point George will have to figure that out.I never imagine them putting that many goals on an Acc team even on a weak Wake team

UNC has a tendency to play to the level of its opposition and, as we've seen this year, sometimes it bites them in the ass.

That's a dangerous sign for early in the NCAA Tournament.
