Meh, it shouldn't have much effect, really. UConn's won at Louisville, at BC, beat Tulsa and SMU in Oklahoma, beat Cal, Michigan St. and St. John's at home, and have only given up two goals all year. Looking at the rest of their schedule, it seems they have a decent shot at going undefeated in the regular season, with @West Virginia and home to Georgetown being the big tests.
Ludwig should be rockN tonight as the Blue Devils come to town. Ovie Maryland has to control Andrew Wegner as that kid is a stud. Duke has some of the best young talent in the country. The Devils like to go forward and attack but it will be interesting to see if they sit back against Maryland as Maryland is a quicker team IMO based on what I've seen this year. Last game against Adelphia Sasho started prize frosh Keith Cardona in goal. Does that happen again tonight? Remeber that Maryland came off a loss last week with Virginia and then the next game a goalie change. HMMMM, coincidence or something brewing in Sasho's mind. Also Sasho played reserve Josh Pace and the kid sends two ICBMS for the winning shots against Aldephia. Good 4 the kid. What Sasho would like to see is Patrick Mullins get off the schnide and get number 6 goal for the year. He's been stuck at 5 goals for awhile now. Same number he had all last year as a sub. He had a laser come off the cross bar down in Virginia. Heck Maryland had a lot of wood shots to say the least last week. Tonight's game should be a good indicator for the ACC conference title....
Really looking forward to tonight's game.... if the weather clears. Hopefully it stays sunny long enough to allow the field to drain but after 2 1/2 days of pretty much straight rain, I expect the field to be pretty soaked. Anyone know how good the drainage system at Ludwig is?
I'd imagine there will be a really good crowd tonight given the opponent, the quasi-television element, and Midnight(ish) Madness over at Comcast after the game.
@tman1: In 2009, when MacMath was a sophomore, Swaim started a couple of games against bad teams. Cirovski likes making sure his backup gets some work. Seton Hall and Adelphi were the two best games on the slate to start Cardona. No chance that he's in net tonight.
The stats show he was out for awhile, then played on 9/20, missed a couple of games, played 0+ mins on 10/4, and has not played since. The Sept/Oct stats don't look like stats of someone healthy and ready to be on the field. Are you saying he's healthy?
Terps take down Dook, 4-2 (they got a late meaningless goal with 40 seconds left). 7,957 fans at Ludwig...new school record. Phantom red card on Sunny Jane early in the 2nd half. Heard someone say he spit, but I didn't see it. Goals by Jane, Mullins, and a brace by Stertzer. Wenger held in check all night.
Have to admit that when Duke Sean Davis scored the first goal , I said to myself it's going to be one of those nights. Davis just got back for Duke and I wanted to watch him. Some scouts thought Davis (not Shinsky) was the best player in the country (via the hs ranks). Sasho went after Davis but your not going to get every kid (not even Sasho). Davis was also a former club teammate of Dan Metzger (Maryland frosh). Metzger is going to be VERY VERY good. Maryland just reloads. Another thing with the Maryland program, I know Sasho is pushing to have the stadium temporary bleachers taken out and have a permanent structure put into place. If Maryland can raise the dollars (of course) then that's the next feather in the cap for Sasho's program. I know he's pushing hard for this infrastructure to be put in place. Back to the game. Nice to see Sunny Jane and Patrick Mullins notch some hole N ones last night. IMO, for Maryland to accomplish what they want against the iron they have to meet, Jane has to see the ball more in an attacking mode at the 18 line. This is one bit of strategy I'm waiting for Sasho to make an adjustment to as more teams are triple teaming Casey Townsend. Also nice to see Patrick Mullin notch his birdie for his six goal of the season. I saw a little relief from the young man last night as he's been in a dry spell. Maryland also did a nice job on Andrew Wegner and Wegner and one real good chance last night but that was about it. The kid Papaduka (sp?), true frosh, is a kid I luv and he's going to be a star. How did Sasho miss him..wink wink. The Sunny Jane red card,... not certain but I saw the referee motion of throwing an elbow. Anyhow he's out next game as well...ouch. Tman
Everyone wants a new stadium, but the money just isn't there. The athletic department is in the red, and there's talk of having to cut some sports. I think what will happen first is hosting a game at Byrd stadium and going after the all-time attendance mark. I know Sasho thinks it's attainable (as do I), and maybe the effects of such an event would help build momentum for a stadium in the future.
Sasho is very good at raising money outside of the athletic department. He works donors like a campaign director. So I don't see the athletic budget being an issue as Sash will seek the money elsewhere. (This is what Bruce Arena did to get Klockner built way back when and I'm sure many other non-rev - and even some "rev" sports do it.) Playing at Byrd and going for the record is intriguing. I think they could do it, especially if it was the right opponent. Either a highly-ranked conference foe like Virginia, Duke or UNC or a really big name program like Indiana, UCLA, UConn or Akron.
OK... UNC vs Maryland. Game of the year this Friday...sort of until Sunny Jane got the red card and is out for the match. Game is in Chapel Hill, UNC is very good and hot and like I said "no Sunny" for this match. All the aces seem to be in UNC's favor. With that said, might there be more pressure on UNC to win than Maryland. Sure seems that way. Something tells me Sasho will have the kids loosey goosey for this match and we'll tell em to have fun and let the chips falls. This should be interesting. With a new outside mid in the Maryland lineup, it will be interesting to see how Sasho plays the substituion role. I expect a LOT of Danny Metger the highly sought after kid from New Jersey whose going to be very very good. Should be a fun match. t.
Not sure about Shinsky's health at the moment. Considering that Raley has been supplanting Forbess as an outside midfielder, both of them could be starting. Re: Soccer at Byrd Stadium - the grass field at Byrd is currently convex for drainage purposes, so soccer wouldn't seemingly be logical on a non-flat surface.
As for recruiting for 2012 with Maryland, Sasho's has snared the number 1 central back in the country with Mike Ambrose of El Paso Texas along with Dakota Edwards another back defender from New York. Edwards the top prospect in NY. Sasho isn't done either as he's started to warm up on the 2013 class as Alex Crondale from Lincoln HS in Gahana Ohio (under Caleb's Porters nose...HMMMM). Crondale one of the top Defenders in the country. All this to protect for possible early defects with Taylor Kemp and London Woodberry. T.
Ambrose typically plays outside back and is not that great of a player regardless of his national team experience/resume.
HMMMM so you're questioning Sasho's recruiting eye Ey.... Lets check your statement in two years. tman
Didn't Dakota suffer an ACL this summer meaning he'll be coming to MD after not playing for a year. He's the kid from Albertson academy, right?
