LOLWUT? Good subs by Sigi. And we have everyone available for Hereniado, which is the other good news.
Yeesh, I miss a Sounder's win in Mexico. That's what I get for spending quality family time EDIT: Oh, yeah great result for our club and for MLS (too bad we couldn't have been the first, but we can say we kept the streak alive).
Just the kind of match that the term "Famous Win" was invented for! http://goalwa.wordpress.com/2011/08...f-group-after-outlasting-monterrey-in-mexico/ “The last time we were here we scored two goals but we needed three. It was important for us to play to zero tonight because we felt it would give us a better chance. I think the difference for us was that we have grown up a little bit as a team. We are more mature now. With the experience we had last year we know what to expect and we didn’t make silly mistakes because we have grown up a little bit.” ---Schmid
In order to win this game as underdogs we needed to have some character and get some help from the opponent's side, and today we had both. Monterrey's offense looked overconfident for most of the game and that attitude most of the time ends up biting you in the ass. However, they could've still gotten away with it if it wasn't for the Sounders absolutely flawless defensive work. I'm a lover of the beautiful game, but I'm not opposed to some bunker playing when it's called for, and today it was perfectly set up by Sigi. The only mistake I saw it was when Boss stayed too long with the ball on his feet and almost ended up in a goal. It was the wrong call by him, but for the good reasons. What I mean by this is that he was so brave and secure most of the game that he probably thought at that point he was also able to pull that off. A bit of cockyness at that point, but on the other hand you can't go shitting your pants in a game like this, and Boss most certainly didn't, so I'm willing to forgive him for that one single situation (hoping it doesn't happen again) due to his overall impeccable performance. Our whole defensive line was up to it, and played anti-football to perfection on the 2nd half. Good for the 4 of them. Carrasco is not as good as Alonso but tonight he was going for it big time. Good for Flaco amending his flaws on previous games and stepping up today when it counted. The only Sounder that looked kind of lost and out of touch was once again Nate Jaqua. Sorry buddy, but it is true. The rest were just monsters tonight. I think this reverses the effect the game against Man-U had, which exposed our subs as liabilities. After today I see some light, and I can see that our subs are developing to a dependable status. I have no idea if it was Sigi's good strategy, or something they drank before the game, whatever. Whatever you're doing, keep doing it. This is exciting not only for the result but for the experience that brings to our guys, and the effect that it has in the team's morale. Great job everyone, and congratulations for this epic victory.
Just wanted to drop in an offer congratulations for the win at Los Rayados tonight. Great win for Seattle, Great win for MLS!
"Because it's dull you twit! It will hurt more!" Great win tonight. I must admit I never thought we'd hold the lead, especially when Monterrey came out strong in the second half. Glad to see I was wrong.

I just hate these epic games when I'm watching it on TV at home. It puts me into a kind of paralytic state of nervous shock. One of these days, I'll have to concede to father time, and just accept that the Sun will still rise despite a Sounders loss. Huge win tonight.
Congrats guys! I want to keep the MLS train rolling through Mexico!!!!! (hope it rubs off on the USMNT)
You know, I'm watching the recap on soundersfc.com, and I'm just amazed that somewhere we managed to dig up an announcer whose name is a homophone for "We Win" (Huy Nguyen).
In case somebody is interested in the articles of last night's game of Montrerrey's newspaper El Norte (PDF files) http://www.omarsantos.info/mty/mtysea.pdf (Page 1) http://www.omarsantos.info/mty/mtysea2.pdf (Page 2) http://www.omarsantos.info/mty/mtysea3.pdf (Page 3) http://www.omarsantos.info/mty/mtysea4.pdf (Page 4) Last 2 are interesting because they are reporting on the security outside the stadium,..

A great game to watch, in large part because just about EVERYONE played well for the Sounders. I was particularly happy for Carrasco, Fernandez, Levesque, and Noonan, who all seemed to be playing a notch above their (respective) usual level.
Pish posh.. We've won 2 USOC semis and been in 3 before. That's old hat. This is our B team defeating the A- team of one of the best teams in the best league in our confederation.
I was extremely impressed with Riley, particularly in the first half (his level of play slipped a bit in the second but how could it not compared to the first). He really played above himself (and for the record I'm usually pretty harsh on him).
I believe last nights defensive strategy could be called bend but oh please for the love of god don't break.
