There are two of them: At 12 years of age he was picked by famed Italian club AC Milian to train at their youth academy. Snip: Lynden travels to Sunderland in January 2012 to sign his contract. The journey has only just begun. http://santacruzbreakers.org/experiences-lynden Haven't seen confirmation from the club yet, but worth watching.
Ot but why does sunderland have association in their name? can't think of any other epl sides with afc instead of fc.
Apparently he'll go this summer: Former Soquel High star Lynden Gooch, 16, has signed a professional soccer contract with Sunderland AFC of the English Premier League. Gooch signed a three-year deal for an undisclosed amount last Friday, said his father Paul, who coaches Soquel's girls soccer team. http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/sports/ci_19833105
Sunderland AFC began life as "Sunderland & District Teachers Association Football Club", founded in 1879 by James Allan, a teacher at Hendon Board School. His object was to provide "recreational amusement" for the area's schoolteachers. In 1881 the club's name was changed to Sunderland Association Football Club, and non-teachers were allowed to join. Thanks to wikipedia. Seems they were one of the first AFCs.
