Congratulations to the Hoops Nation. Very Well done. Just to be contrary (I know it's outdoors. I know it's Division One, etc.), but you all know that the Sidekicks were the first team to beat a Mexican side on their home field, right? July 11, 1993: Sidekicks 19 La Raza de Monterrey 8. 19 goals still stands as the record for most goals in a Division One-Indoor match. Again: This was the game I expected us to lose. You surprised me yet again. That'l do, Hoops. That'l do.
Actually, I believe an outdoor team from New York already accomplished that feat about 2 decades before the Sidekicks.
Those teams were in the same league....and as you said, it was indoor. If you've ever played indoor and outdoor soccer, then you know they are damn near completely different sports.
Alan, Just to be contrary... La Raza beat the Sidekicks in Dallas the previous game... http://www.kicksfan.com/1993/box/season/game6.htm (I still hate the sidekicks )
Oh, please.. Odin Patino - 1,059 min. in first division Aaron Sandoval - 155 min. Raul Servin - 69 min. M. Arturo Castro - 18 min. Eduardo Gamez - 5 min. J. Antonio Garcia - 0 min. Cesar Sanchez - 0 min. Salvador Medina - 0 min. Carlos Campos - 0 min. C. Humberto Gonzalez - Experienced player J. Carlos Cacho - Experienced player Martin Bravo - Experienced player Eduardo Herrera - 349 min. Eduardo Barron - 0 min. Either way, It's not FC Dallas' fault Pumas presented an inexperienced squad. They ended a big streak and made U.S. soccer history. Congrats on that!
Not saying FC Dallas would win the Mexican Clasura, but just saying you better bring your A game when you play us. Pumas didn't, and they paid the price. Thanks.
The feeling is mutual. I hope both our teams come back someday. Would somebody give some rep. to Omar, please? I'm blocked from doing so until somebody else does something clever.
Man, I loved going to Sidekicks game... especially when they beat La Raza. Maybe when the Stars get bought by a Canadian investment group and get moved to Canada, Mark Cuban will bring back the Sidekicks in order to fill more dates for the AAC.
I was overjoyed watching the final 3 min of the FCD win over Pumas. I knew at that moment how much hate was building in the fans down there and how fun it would be to watch them throw a hissy fit.
Well it's nice to give players a chance but if they don't take the whole squad, I do hope it's at least a more competitive one come September 21st(as well as the other matches). I wouldn't mind a half/half squad.
You seriously have to question a culture that approves of a name like "La Raza" as something to be representative of their sports teams. Weird.
In Monterrey (And Northern parts of Mexico), the "La Raza" name would be the equivalent of calling a team "the Crew" "La Raza" does not mean the same in Mexico as it does in the US...
Its like a group of friends, your crew, your homies, however you wanna call the people you hang out with. Anyway, back on topic.... so do we still have a cat in our pants?
Wait - what does 'La Raza' mean in the US? 'Cause what you said is what I thought it meant - of course mi familia desde San Antonio
I rep'd you AND Omar and can't get any love back... Guess that's what I get for being a Dynamo fan...
