If Fierro pans out, does he bench Cubo? Do they work as a tandem up top?

    valgame dios.....

That was the best game I've seen them play and they lose.

    The irony.

No, Fierro and cubo up top. But in all seriousness, there are some sub 17 players that in 2 years wont transition well and there are some players that didnt make the sub17 that will translate well to 20 yr olds, like chicharito. So we will see who of the champs will make it to the sub 20.

I actually though he had a great game. Probably the only game I've seen him play and he didn't look like shit to me. He's starting to win me over with his saves. Could it be that this guy is better suited as a central defender?

I'm just watching the second half of the game, i missed that half yesterday and when i left pa mi no me dejo un buen sabor de boca el primer tiempo no estuvieron mal pero no tan bien, pero el segundo tiempo ufff este mexico estaba para ganarle a brazil, IMO mexico was better than brazil except that brazil finished their chances which obviously will win you games. I really think if Rivera finishes or passes the ball to davila mexico would of won the game. Some observations

    1. chaton contrary to what alot of people keep saying, over the course of the tournament improved about 90% people keep calling him out must be chiva haters.

    2. All that media hype le afecto al cubo, i still think he's a very good prospect, but the way the media treated him after he was scoring goals at chivas, like he was the second coming of chicharito(I still remember that ESPN interview like if he was a big star) affected the kid big time he needs to forget about all that and keep playing.

Well, he's still eligible for the next U20 WC. I will say, that he was disappointing with this team, but then again he he's only been with them for a few months, where as the other players have been together for years. The team also got better when he started.

For now, I'll rate him by what he's done against men in the FMF as an 18 year old. One thing he needs to improve on more than anything is his temperament. He gets hit a lot and doesn't always react positively.

As far as the Cubo bashing.. He's got plenty of potential, is dynamic, plays ok as a poste, etc... he's young. But his way of trying to get under the opponents' skin by fouling that hard, early in a game is way crazy.

That's all I have to say about that.

wow, I guess since his one good game was against Colombia, and its probably the Colombian press that has the majority say in this, it makes sense. Otherwise, the guy is still crap, he may get better one day, but there's no way he was even close to being the best player on Mexico, nevertheless the whole tournament.

I'm really in shock (although I don't know why ) in all the criticism on Cubo and the blaming on him. He should have been replaced? By who? Did you not all see Guarch sucking it up before? Izazola who is pathetic? Rivera? It's not a casualty that when Cubo became a starter, Mexico gave their best games of the tournament against Colombia and Brazil. There wasn't anybody doing better. The worst thing is how people have missed on a bigger culprit and it was Edson Rivera. Edson Rivera didn't have a good game and he wasted by far the best play Mexico had yesterday. Davila gave him a pass in the top of the box with nobody in front but far away from the goalie and was waiting for the perfect pared that would have let him open. Instead Rivera just shot it from there as he was falling and straight to the keeper. That was the key play and it wasn't Cubo who wasted it. I can understand people in Mexico, who probably only started watching after the Cameroon game not knowing how bad we were before the Colombia game, but people here.

The main problem that people don't see is this: Brazil is better than us. They are more talented than us even if they didn't have a great game. People have thought that because we play great against them historically, it means we own them or something but it's bullshit. Everyone forgets we beat them in Copa America in 07 but they totally dominated the 2nd half and Ochoa had to do miracles to beat them. In the confederations cup in 05, Oswaldo had to pull the miracles in the 1st half. In 03 they took us into overtime in Azteca with a sub 23 team and the 99 game was a classic and really tough game all 90 minutes. They are a better team and we always have to bring it but of course because Mexicans have the short term memory of an accident victim, they suddenly forget how hard the Brazil games are always and think we are favorites against them just because they look at their record. The whole criticisms comes from like if a team had lost to an inferior performance and not the reality that they outperformed them. People talk about Cubo and the midfield, etc but forget the real key in that they subbed a player like Dudu, which is quality.

Right now at this moment Chaton is a better holding midfielder than Reyes.
He is also 20 months older than Reyes but still he is better than Reyes in that position, now.

    This coming from an Americanista

Well in the linked mediotiempo article in Hecho en Chivas' post it says that the nominees are chosen by a 10-member FIFA Committee, and that's all that Enriquez is at this point, a nominee.

Then the press gets to choose the 3 best players from the 10 nominees.

Haha, that's a great way to put it. For the record I was one the posters who said I liked our chances against them. Yes, my choice was purely on our recent record against them. Though I am fully aware that our wins have come from a combination of luck and our teams stepping their game up for that particular game(vs. Brazil).

Luck wasn't on our side this time, it's too bad, but we didn't get dominated either. The team played a decent game and the result was close but a well deserved loss.

I don't think this another "Ya Merito" scenario though. The team had their chances and they missed them, but I don't think any of those misses came from "choking" or "pressure"(ala Olympic Qualifiers for example). It just looked like our forwards were all in a slump since the tourney started, it's difficult to gauge how much of their performance was from bad form or simply sucking. Davila had a great tournament at Toulon, the Guarch/Pulido pairing seem to work fine before Toulon, and Cubo's MFL goals weren't an accident or anything.

The forward line was obviously the weakest link of this team, but like I said it's difficult to gauge their performance.

I never get why Chaton gets hated on here. I thought for the most part he was solid for the whole tournament. Sure, he throws a couple passes away but all the things he does positive on the field compensates anything he does negative.

^^ ahuevo. La manera de recuperar balones y jugar siempre con todo (con huevos) es lo que me gusta de el Chaton. Claro, tiene que mejorar mucho pero la verdad tiene la abilidad para ser grande.
