Don't know if Falcao will end up staying or not, but he and Guarin were both called up for Porto's first league match tomorrow night. 2:00 PM ET kickoff here in the United States, if anyone wants to watch.

I agree, and the only way he goes there is if they pay the full 45m euro release clause in one installment--which I don't think they will. Their previous offer was something like 25-30m euros and Argentine winger Eduardo Salvio, which was promptly rejected by Porto. We don't need Salvio, and are demanding that any club who want Falcao pay the full asking price.

If he goes, I still see Chelsea this summer.

Atletico has offered 38 million in 20+9+9 payments. If they offer that in one installment, that's a transfer.

worrisome... maybe this a move to get bids on the table from the other suitors?

wish arsenal would come in with some of the fabregas money...

I'd also prefer him to stay at Porto... But it would be interesting to see him team up with Forlan.

its also worrisome because he could play the champions league and the uefa super copa and with atletico he has no chance of winning anything

What's so great about pairing him with Forlan? To me they aren't a good fit together, it'd produce diminishing returns. I think they'll sell Forlan to create additional salary room for Falcao.

I see the point about the quality of the supporting cast, but I don't think that Atletico is such a bad option from that perspective. He can have Reyes, Salvio, Arda Turan (underrated signing) and probably Diego (a very good creative passer when his head is on its place) and some other winger (Guardado or that french kid from Real Sociedad, someone like that) behind him. And if Diego + that winger don't sign it's because they were able to pry a world class player they are being linked to (besides Falcao). That's pretty good, even if below Porto's starting line-up standards. I'm not sure if Arsenal would be a better option.

I do agree that Porto may have the superior team relatively to Atlético, but c'mon, let's not be naive here. There were offers from other teams, but I think his priority is Atlético because:
    - they'll make him one of the better paid footballers in the world, I think only 3/4 clubs would be willing to pay that type of salary+signing bonus and Arsenal isn't one of them
    - his wife prefers to go to Madrid and they promised to find some gig on a tv show for her

Stuff like this trumps Champions League football or whatever for 99% of the players and, tbh, rightly so. Plus, guys like Falcao are extremely self-confident, guys like him believe they are good enough to put Atletico back on top. So that "maybe take a lesser offer to play for a club with a bigger winning tradition/better teammates/etc" has very little impact with them. In the end, if Atletico values him more than any other club, why should he reciprocate?
