Was the purpose of the video to show what a great keeper he is? Because if it was, I see one, maybe two good saves...the rest is average goalie stuff. Next time, a pic would do. Anyway, I don't think a goal would cause much frustration on the Mexican side..I don't see Mex being weak-minded much.
Well he's definitely better then the keeper on the other end, and he saves the bacon for the US more times then not. You don't think a US goal would frustrate Mexico? That's been the downfall of your team. They'll play well, then the US scores, and they get frustrated and lose concentration. Maybe this a new Mexico, but I'm going off games I've seen.
To be fair, that was a good USA team up front, which i hope you acknowledge that you dont have right now. BUT overall for spain i cant even begin to compare our squad to theirs sadly, but i will point out that IMO what you guys did that TRULY hurt them and i think even Bradley agreed with, was take Xavi out of the game with the personal man mark. And with that said, our game doesn't generate from out CM's....we dont have a Xavi ;_;. Also with spain, i can say that within the emergence of Pique in their NT at that point, he didnt have the long ball in his arsenal where if he was unable to play the ball to busquets/xavi/iniesta he could make the long cross pass to torres or villa. While Rafa is a bit slow, i think that him and moreno will be crucial to us in the sense that if we cant overcome the midfield clog , both are capable of bypassing the midfield and still give the pass to chichario/gio/barerra. So well have to see how that works out. and yeah i agree, i cant wait for this game lol.
Agreed, the forward line was a lot better in that game. Wouldn't be totally shocked to see Dempsey up front instead of Agudelo. He's got a bright future but he's really young. Altidore having a pulled hammy sucks, he would be useful in this game since he could throw his weight around, but losing Charlie Davies to that horrific car accident is what really hurts. He was a game changer with his speed. Yes that's true the part of nullifying Xavi to the best of our abilities was critical in that game.. I think they'll try to clog the midfield the best they can so yeah whoever is playing forward is going to have to put pressure on Rafa because he can ping balls over the top on point. Withstanding the first 15 minutes will be crucial, because I think Mexico will come out flying. If they hold them off then it will be game on.
well, as we say in Portugal "fiem-se na virgem e não corram"- i think you can understand portuguese .. as an american that lives in europe and a supporter and also a colaborator of FC POrto, there is no doubt that american football has been improving very fast, not only in terms of pure skill but also in terms of the " know how" of the tricks that so often are the difference between defeat or victory. another thing that we improved is in the size question: we have more skill but we also are much more bigger. And it is usually hard to beat physical strong teams, as we saw in the usa vs panama- or dennmark, sweden, ghana, germany... also anybody that is impartial must concede that the teamwork spirit is born in american players, a reflex of american mentality as a society: the strenght of the american team is usually greater tham the sum of their players. i am afraid that does not totally aply to the mexican team. we have also players that can decide matches: donovan, dempsey, adu belong to this class of players. we have also our secret weapons. of course mexico has hernandez or gianni dos santos, but mexico does not have the nanis, vidics, rio ferdinands, andersons, berbatovs , fergusons of the manchester united. like messi does not have the barcelona team in argentina... i do not say the usteam is favourite to win the game, but i say that mexico will have to run a lot to beat usa. the first half against panama, in the semi-final, showed an impressive usa side that perhaps does not win everytime but it is very deifficult to beat.
Last Gold Cup final aside, these are usually very tense games where both sides have add a bit more to their game to come out victorious in the end. Since the last two games have gotten progressively more complicated, I fully expect this to be the toughest game to date. Tactical bullsh*t aside, I just hope Chepo has learned from his mistakes and realizes that his scheme is easily nullified by clogging the midfield and surely Bradley has realized this and will attempt something similar. Salcido appears ready to play, Guardado will most likely come in as a sub which leaves us with the question, who plays in Guardado's spot? Well, I've got a feeling it will be Torres Nilo. Now before your head explodes, let me explain why that is. Assuming Chepo realizes his two DMs are the team's achille's heels (doesn't matter how many times people want to shift the blame elsewhere, these guys have given the ball away against teams like Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala and even Honduras. These teams didn't take advantage of those mistakes but imagine Donovan picking Torrado's pocket and countering against Rafa while we're pushing up to score.....yeah, not so pretty.) then he needs to make some adjustments. If Guardado is going to come off the bench, putting Gio on the wing would be next logical step. The problem is Gio isn't going to track back and Salcido will push forward quite a bit so the nads will try to overload that side in order to take advantage of this. By putting Torres Nilo in place of Guardado, that means Gio won't have to come back for the ball too much and Salcido will be allowed to go up and attack while Torres Nilo stays back and covers him. Torres Nilo is faster than Salcido and can help when the US attacks the space between the defense and midfield but the most important aspect of placing Torres Nilo as a left sided midfielder is the fact that he's going to help us win the ball back in the midfield since we already know Torrado and Castro won't be able to deal with the physical presence of Jones and Bradley. After 65 mins, Castro comes off and Guardado comes on for him and will switch back to the wing when de Nigris comes in to partner Chicharito up top with Torres Nilo sliding in to the center to help cover Rafa and Moreno. Of course it would be easier to just sit one of Torrado or Castro for Zavala but I doubt Chepo would change his starting XI at this point, let alone bench the captain. Castro at least is always on the move and offers an outlet for a pass and can hit a decent pass into space. This game will certainly be won or lost in the midfield and as of right now, we are looking frail in the center of the field.
It looked like Torres Nilo played well there against Honduras, although I have not seen much of him and don't know if he has played left midfield before. I think Guardado will start, he said he has a swollen ankle. Players usually only miss games with that type of injury to let it recover properly or if its badly sprained. This is the final I'd assume he'll just play through it and let it recover afterwards. I've played a match the other nightwith a swollen ankle after rolling it and not noticed the difference lol.
The most boring player ever on the US team personality wise, Michael Bradley, sums it up well: "They're a good team. Certainly the attacking players, they are mobile and can cause problems with their skill. Having said that, it's a big rivalry and these games, all it takes is one play going one way to tilt the bar in your favor."
Mexican water > magic spray. In FMF games I remember whenever someone got hurt the training staff would immediately pour water over the injured area. No spray just water lol.
I am suprised no one has asked who will be reffing this game cause that is also a main factor, well to me atleast?
