Not just us but everyone bar City are guilty of this. Very strange indeed. The Italian kid is Petrucci, prodigiously gifted ball player but he has been out injured for the last two seasons. Started to make a comeback at the end of last season but major injury setbacks at 18-19 can be career-destroying. The other two academy mids of interest are Pogba and Tunnicliffe. Definitely centrally but he does need to start getting involved in games a lot more. Talent wise, I do rate him a lot lower than say a Morrison.
I know some, mainly chris, believe that Oezil went to Madrid for so cheap cuz he was near the end of his contract, but realistically after a WC like he had a bidding war could have taken that price way higher Which brings me to my point, Oezil was always going to Madrid cuz he wanted to, same with Kedira and IMHO Sahin. So it isn't a question why Utd didn't go for the three. As for why Utd dont by players from the BL, what teams in England buy highly talented players from Germany??? In fact not until Oezil, Khedira and Sahin went to madrid not many clubs outside of Germany bought the next German stars. Thats one thing i respect about the BL, they seem to keep their talent, and its strengthened their league over the years.
Your post is very true. Yo add a little bit; Mourinho himself said he was a fan of Germany during the WC and he follows the BL closely. Another thing to consider, Oezil and Sahin have the same agent. Borussia Dortmund had a buy-out clause for Sahin and his agent brought it to Mourinho's attention, a man that was already a Sahin fan. They simply made the approach to Dortmund and by the time everyone got a hold of this news, even us BvB fans, the deal was almost done. Something else to note...Germany did not have much talent to offer before 2006. The likes of Hitzelsperger and our very own Huth were the main ones going out over seas. The likes of Lahm and Schweinsteiger all chose to stick with Bayern. Other players that impacted like Kroos, Gomez and Neuer made their move to Bayern. It is really only been in the last 3-4 years that Germany has started to produce young youth and most of them are young enough that they feel like exercising their development in Germany - and I don't blame them. Goetze, Reus, Mueller have all stated that they want to continue developing in Germany before considering a move to the Prem or La Liga. Related; Germany's U17 just beat Burkina Faso 3-0. That's 9 goals in just two matches...
Any chance he would feel completely developed by say before the transfer window closes? Our rightside would welcome such a player.
Not really. The players with similar contract situations that have moved for less include the likes of Ozil. I'm not saying it's a bad purchase, but it is expensive.
I love the idea of Mueller in a Blues shirt. Great touch and vision and the ability to play centrally as a playmaker as he did during the World Cup.
^ One of the reasons I so dig him is that versatility. Still doubt Bayern sale him but what a buy he could be.
Several young players like that at the moment in Germany but I think Goetze has shown the most versatility out of all of them. He has played LW, AM and RW in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Dortmund in the last 1 1/2 seasons and he has played in all those positions like it is his natural position. For an 18 year old...amazing. I can't way to see a formation like this for Germany; -------------Striker -- Goetze-------Oezil--------Mueller Amazing that the bench could have Marin, Holtby, Schurrle, Reus and Podolski covering for them.
I think that midfield is versatile and creative enough all Germany really needs is a poacher that can hold up the ball some and bang them in up top.
I think you guys should change the thread title now that you have a manager..... Edit: And Cris, Podolski has no right to be even on the bench....He's got the footballing IQ of a brick....
Germany is producing so much talent, much like French League was about a decade ago. I hope Chelsea go for Goetze after this season. We need to snap this lad up as he's got that mix of talent and application that a lot of players his age and his position don't normally display. We could use either Marin or Reus right now to be honest. Especially for out problems in wider areas and our lack of a true second forward.
Just use Gomez as the striker - he has certainly found his form at Bayern now. And I'm not nearly as sold on Muller as other people - he's a good player without a real position on the pitch.
Sp*rs and Orient lose their appeal against the Olympic Stadium / West Ham ruling, paving the way for the biggest stadium in the Championship. If you blag hard enough, you too can play in front of 30,000 empty seats I have zero sympathy for Sp*rs obviously considering they wanted to knock the bloody thing down and take out the track (while rebuilding a far smaller venue - gee thanks), but think this will soon spell the end for Orient. West Ham will have to slash the price of tickets to fill most of the seats which will take any floating fans in the area away from Orient who are a cheaper option currently. That's a lot of families who for the same money will be able to go to a Championship (and potentially premiership) game versus league two fare. And with them goes any chance of the next generation of fans http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/olympics/london_2012/13895756.stm
Sure it isn't cheap for a player bearing the end of his contract, but for a 25 yo who knows the league quite well, and as a club who desperately need width, Ashly young for 15 mil should have been here. He displayed stellar performances this past WC, what not to be sold on.
I agree with you as do most of the pundits but Loew seems to rate him highly. That said, his record for Germany has been pretty damn good. Yup...Gomez and Holtby should be the strikers. Keissling sucks and Klose is already up there in age. Hope to see him regain his form with Lazio next season. Some people want to see Mueller there as well but I like him more on the wing. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
On a different note, Malaga in Spain has been buying some big names. They just bought Joaquin (Had a great season last year), RVN, and Jeremy Toulalan. Apparently, they got some new owners.
Oil money and pretty smart buy IMO. Below the top two there is some definite returns to be made to get to that 3/4/5 spot and probably need far less investment in la liga than in some other leagues. Plenty of tv profile with a global audience and European places aplenty. Not sure how much he spent on the club and players but probably a snip compared to what City cost/spent and with a more achievable path to the champions league given the competition outside of the top two.
Madrid reporting earnings of 450 million euros after last season. Im guessing the new transfer system implemented next season wont be a problem for them.
I thought one of the issues in Spain was that the clubs negotiate for their own TV rights, and if you are one of the clubs without a huge fan base in Spain, you will be struggling to get much revenue?
