Tricia is out at Miami......... http://hurricanesports.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/spec-rel/110910aaa.html
Does Cromwell from UCF take the trek south to Miami? I thought consensus here last year was she wouldn't stay at UCF for too much longer. Miami is still the same state, so her contacts wouldn't change. It's the ACC, so more money (I'd assume) and finish in the top 8 (which Miami reasonably can already do) and you're in the NCAA's. A lot better than run through the CUSA as the #1 or #2 seed.
With Cromwell's reputation, I think she could do a lot better than Miami. I don't think she's leaving UCF unless the perfect job opens up. Either that or unless someone backs up the Brinks truck towards her house.
If she wants to "step up" what other job would be *perfect* for her? UVA? I don't see that one opening up any time soon. She's already in FL & has the recruiting connections covered. But how does one (or maybe just Cromwell) define the *perfect* job? In a lot of ways, she seems the obvious candidate for the Miami job. She's done what most consider to be a really good job @ UCF. Is the U just a bad place to be for women's soccer? Is the pay lower than standard ACC?
You think Cromwel would leave UCF for a rebuilding job. Doubt the budget at Miami is much better anyway. ACC has notorious low budgets. Besides Miami needs a good recruiter which she is not known for. I know it is debated on here a lot but my 1st 3 calls would be ER (UNCG hc), EB (FSU asst coach) and CH (UCF asst coach.) ER is one of the best mid major coaches in d1 and EB and CH are known to be 2 of the top recruiters in the southeast and certainly FL. Pretty sure they both play very big roles in their programs and are in the region. Look at what BP has done at Maryland. He was a men's asst. SS at SC has taken her a while but slowly built the program. Even TT at Miami was a succesful D1 HC at Illinois before she went to Miami. Don't think it is a formula like some on here want to make it. Either youc an recruit and coach or you can't. It is going to be a long process to build Miami or Clemson. Darkhorse: Baker at Rollins?
In the name of all that's holy, stop using initials, especially when you then identify them as "ER, head coach of UNCG." It serves no purpose other than to annoy the reader.
I guess I don't see Miami being as much of a re-build as you do. And I could be *really* wrong in that assessment. But I definitely wouldn't put Miami & Clemson in the same category in terms of where each program is at. Your point about notoriously low ACC budgets is a good one. It is quite possible Cromwell has at least similar levels of institutional support at UCF. If that's the case, then do you think UCF is where she's going to stay as long as her teams don't completely suck? As for Baker, as someone who knows nothing beyond the public story -- his leaving UGA in the spring citing health/family reasons and then going to Rollins less than 2 months later gives me a big red flag. Maybe there's a massive backstory I'm missing (and don't need/want to know) but it doesn't look good from the outside.
In regards to the above poster mentioning Confer for the Clemson job, I think that hiring an assistant with no head coaching experience is the LAST thing they would do after their last hire. The little birdies whispering in my ear are saying that Baker is going after the Clemson job. And possibly the Miami job. As to the points you mentioned above, very perceptive. Let's just leave it at that.
After what transpired at Georgia, could he really be in the mix for Miami or Clemson? Would AD's look past something like that?
What did happen at Georgia? This board tells the story on others. Why is he being protected? Just the general story is enough. Interesting that the AD at Georgia was fired over his own scandal months after Baker left.
Who knows what really happened. It could have been the stated reason or it could have been perceived support or contract issues. Unless there is a documented ethical issue I would think you would have to look at the body of work. He may be happy at Rollins.
I don't know why people haven't "outed" the story. I know and I'm reluctant to spill it just because I don't want to be the first one to do it. Cowardly? I guess. And at the end of the day, he shouldn't be tried and vilified on a message board. I'm guessing his life was pretty crappy when all this went down, without annonymous nut jobs like us commenting on it. After the Notre Dame dealio and McGuire's meltdown at Cal, my taste for the drama has changed. I'm just curious for those who do know, if you think an AD would give him another shot.
Pinsoom Tenzing has retired as Hawaii coach. That's an interesting (and challenging) job that just came open. Meanwhile, Vermont promotes from within.
If 10-8-1 is enough to get TT fired at UM... how long does Ange at UT have? or Ron at Iowa? or Mick at IU? all coaches have been with programs for at least 5 years...
what about kf at louisville? haven't made the tournament for a while, at least a few transfers out. lousiville likes to see its name in lights. and jn at western kentucky? new AD, 11 (?) years of comfortably winning against weak teams..never getting worse but never getting better.
Bigger question to me is how long (and expensive) is Petrucelli's contract at UT. The last 3 years UT has finished 5th, 5th, 6th in the Big 12. First round exits in the Big12 tourny this year and 2008. 2nd round exit in 2009. Folks in TX get antsy when things aren't going as well as they thought. The women's bball coach is feeling a bit of heat in just her 3rd year even though that cupboard was more bare than some realized or wanted to acknowledge. Maybe the focus on Goestenkors allows Petrucelli to coast by for another year or two?
If my memory serves me well, I think it was established on this board early this fall that UT just signed a 5 year contract this year (with a hefty salary - maybe highest in SEC). That would put her in year one of the 5 year contract so I do not believe she would be on the "hot seat".
Who is TT at UM? Never understood the whole initials thing. Coaches are public figures, it's ok to say their names.
