  1. Banner or Hulk?

    Mar 11, 2006
Lol, yeah i realize its not a popular idea. Personally, i think its worth considering. Im not advocating they go spend millions on some dude from another country just because they can. Mexcellence brought up America and he's right, thats a perfect example of what you dont want to do. But its a global game. Its difficult enough without being able to find replacements and having to rely on whatever is in house. You figure of the guys available if one doesnt work out in a position youve got to hope the next guy behind him does. Other teams benefit from being able to just plug someone else in and move on.

And yet despite how mediocre Mexican futbol may be, Chivas struggles to maintain its status as a premiere organization. Theres nothing wrong with adopting strategies used in other countries, thats what i want to see Chivas do.

Yeah but what a waste of fackn money that is. Even if you do buy someone what if they don't pan out, then what? Keep on buying?

Its always a risk when you bring in a new player. Just like spending time hoping a player develops into something is a risk. Money you can get back. Whens the next time Chivas will play in the Libertadores final?

This is true, his tactics were pretty bad, but it's a final and I thought he played a bit too different than before. But lately Chivas hasn't been looking as great as they usually do.

Yeah but until the Mexican league brings up it's level of play, players with such talent to be able to compete with S. America's best will be few and far between.

Real Madrid is another example. Chemistry and homegrown is underrated.

As for your points, as someone said, you should be attacking the FMF mediocrity and not an organization who actually tries to do something right.

My theory is that if we keep expanding our youth infrastructure and network we are going to find some real gems. Mexico is full of gems, but no one cares or harvests them.

As we continue to find these gems, we will export our best players to top Euro leagues and hence improve the Mexican NT. At the same time we will produce solid talent that could make a jump to a mid tier Euro team, but we will keep instead.

As for tourneys. I think FMF teams should have a greater good mentality and lend their players for cheap.

In Chivas case we could have borrowed for example Torrado and Guti.

I don't buy the experience argument. Inter is clearly better. We are improving though and that is undeniable. Noobs take you to a final like this no es poca cosa, they will only continue to improve.

Unfortunately for us Vergara is not thinking long term either. Didn't he say he wants to transfer 4 players to Europe within 1 or 2 years? How the ******** are we building a long term project when our best players are being sold? I've been hearing the same shit from Vergara since he took over and not much has changed.

Guys- enough with the personal attacks.

Chivas as a product is worth much more now than it was 7 years ago. It has a new stadium, is selling jerseys like crazy, negotiates individual TV deals in both Mexico and the US, has brand recognition in South America through Libertadores, has minor brand recognition in Europe by exporting players and youth tournament wins, has a well structured youth system in place.

That's all great, but at some point, especially now that the stadium is done, you'd imagine Vergara will wake up and realize the team has only 1 title to show for it. And his current system won't create a dynasty, as the successful youths will be sold before establishing a strong enough team to win titles. In some ways, the debacle that was Clausura 2009 set the team way back. Flores had finally convinced Vergara to open up his wallet and sign a quality player per line, and then the team imploded. Who knows when someone will convince him again that he needs a stronger squad to compete tournament in, tournament out for a title.

The Mexican liguilla is too random. Even the best teams often end without a title, so you need a very strong team year in year out in order to continuously compete. And let's face it, with the current infrastructure behind it, hoping to rebuild for a title run (because that's what happens when you have youth) every 2-3 years is a complete lack of ambition. I know, nobody has said that is the goal, but that's what you'll get if you're lucky, even if you're the best feeder club in the world.

I assure you that mexican teams are treated in S.America as any other S.American team is treated.

I guess you guys are too used to gringo fans, whose peak of excitment in the stadium is deciding if they should buy a popcorn or a hotdog. :D

Yeah, I saw when Boca played vs that Ecudorian team or Chilean, I forget, I remember how much support the fans put for their team and how much they taunt the other team. It's to be expected, though. But the refs are def biased.

    Exactly.

    Vergara likes the money

It's great that chivas produced Vela and Chicharito but what did they really gain from it?

    Did they win a championship?

And if it's true that they have already struck a deal with a foreign team for henriquez how is that helping build a winning team

Vergara is feeding you guys the same bs that Mahbub has been giving us Pumas fans

We are going to focus on the cantera= we are cheap and won't spend

This is what pisses me off. "Nuestros refuerzos seran la cantera." It's one thing to promote new players each year to the first squad, it's a completely different thing to count on them to replace a Chicharito, etc., or to provide the depth you need off the bench when things aren't working out (let alone injuries, etc.).

But you have the benefit that you can sign someone like Dante Lopez.:D

I think there are two debates going on here, and that's why there's a lot of back and forth. There's the argument of is this good for Mexico. To that I say yes. The Chivas example is providing other clubs with an example of how to develop and use the youth system, which can help the national team in the long run. The other argument is about is the current model good for Chivas. To that I say no. In the end, I want titles (plural). And I don't see itl happening under the current model.

Now, back to the positive- this team is pretty much the same team (except for maybe Chicharito) that started off last season with 8 straight wins, and which then made it to the Libertadores final on the backs of Bravo and the kids. If they can regroup they stand a good chance of making it to the liguilla again this year, at which point all bets are off (and the higher the better to get a Libertadores spot for next year).

I don't think there is too much bias to be honest. Some, but not as much as before.

Someone needs to teach those Internacional rats how to organize a game, we always run into trouble with fans or coaching staff with Boca and Internacional. Random people always end up butting heads with our guys.

Internacional is a rat organization. I don't mind Brazil or their clubs, but I can't stand Inter.

Changing back to Chivas, I'm glad to see that a lot of you guys are starting to open your eyes and come around to the idea that we shouldn't just be recklessly selling players just to sell them to 'Europe'. I'm not for selling anyone right now. Our teams and players will grow if we stick to getting farther and farther in South American tourneys.

The other FMF fans can get their panties wet in the Mexicans abroad forum, but I want titles first and foremost.

Once Bravo was removed as captain, I remember reading that the captain would be between Michel or Reynoso.

Reynoso was the top pick, BUT since he wasnt guaranteed to be a starter, Michel was picked over him.

I guess, after Michel left to la seleccion, Real realized that Reynoso was a fundamental piece in his starting 11 :(

I was actually thinking of starting a new thread and moving a bunch of these posts over. Do I hear someone seconding Reba's motion?

It was supposed to be part of a larger report right? Let me know if you see any followups.
