How do the Brazilians of this forum spend the Carnaval season in Brazil, whether they be in Rio, Sao Paulo, Recife, Salvador, Natal, etc.? Personally I will be visiting Salvador da Bahia (Jan 27 - Mar 03) from Canada and participating with Ile Aiye bloco. I really love this city. On a sidenote: If anyone here happens to be in town during that time, I'd like to offer a couple of Capirinhas "on the house". PM me.
Carnaval has to be spent one way... Getting CRAZY Brasilian style. My family has a 3 year rotation for Carnaval... Praia Grande Rio Salvador/Fortaleza Needless to say I will also be in Salvador this year and is a good chance we will be in bloco at least for a week. I will post more info later as if becomes available, you are also welcome at the house anytime.
Me, I like to spent it in the South. In Garopaba near Florianópolis, if I can choose. Not the typical Braziulian carnival (rave, techno, dance, pop-rock instead of samba and axé), but still lots of fun, drink and hot women. I don't know if I'll have company to travel this year, though.
Hehehe, I have to admit that I'm one of those odd brazilians who do NOT like Carnaval. Not that Im complaining. Personally I think we should have a week off like that every other month. Tipically, I just set out to my spiritual retirement in our country house, which means lots of icy lemonade and relaxing by the poolside under the scorching february summer sun and occasionally practicing my keepy-ups and calling anyone available for some shots on goal round. Oh my DVD collection comes in handy during that week too. hmmmm, now that I think of it, with so many holidays in this country we almost do get a Carnaval every other month...
Florianópolis is absolutely THE PLACE to spend the carnival. Beautiful sunny and crowded beaches with tons of hot women, plus the great techno clubs in there to get crazy at night. Ribeirão Preto has the CARNABEIRÃO, another great carnival event, but Im not shure if its exactly in the carnival time.
I take it, these are events not frequented by non-Brazilian tourists? Because I haven't heard of parties in these places before. Is this something where they have a street party, or blocos? It seems as if no one here aside from Ricardo finds interest in Bahia Carnival, and I've been told Brazilians find this to be the best of all the Carnivals in Brazil.
Actually Florianopolis (to the south of brazil) has TONS of tourists in the reveillon and in the carnival. But if you want the PURE brazilian carnival, with street parties, samba and axe, maybe Bahia would be your place (Ive never spent carnival in the northeast). But in Florianopolis case you have great beaches with the most beautiful women in brazil there, and also awesome night clubs with rock and electronic music (some of them with samba too). You cant go wrong in any of the cases, both are great fun.
Is this like a 'organized' carnaval like Recife, Bahia, or Rio? Or is this mostly just like nightclub related parties. I've done a google search and have been unable to locate much about Florianapolis Carnaval. Perhaps it's more for people that don't want the big crowds like Bahia and Rio, I'd like to know because next time I go to Brazil I'd try to check out Florianapolis.
Carnaval sucks here in Ceara. How I long for Rio. Last Carnaval drove to Canoa Quebrada and danced techno all night. It sure was different.
Old thread, but hey it's almost carnaval time again in Brazil. I can't wait to head back down to Salvador to party to the sounds of Margareth Menezes, Daniela Mercury and my favourite Brazilian artist Carlinhos Brown. Can't wait to hit the beaches of Ondina & Barra with all those beautiful Bahiana garotas. I will see you in February, Brasileiros.
Ohh yeah I havent even been on this site at all since the loss. Still makes me sick to my stomach but now its almost carnaval and I am getting excited. Heads up though Carlinhos Brown is scheduled to be in Praia Grande Sao Paulo and Florionopolis for Carnaval this year so you won't be seeing him. We have a stellar lineup in Praia Grande with Ivette sangalo again also
Are you sure he (Carlinhos Brown) won't be in Salvador for Carnaval? I'd really like confirmation of this, because I really had hoped to see him in Bahia. He was the "key" for me going back to Bahia do you happen to have some sort of website link for him being in these cities for carnaval? I thought he always stays in Bahia for carnaval seeing as he's a Baiano.
It's that time of the year again. Brasilian carnaval is coming in 3 weeks and I can't wait. Will be back in Salvador again for 1 month. I'm wondering if anyone else will be celebrating carnaval this month. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!! Counting down the days to Bahia carnaval.
Hello Brazilians of BigSoccer......I hope those of you celebrating carnaval this year wherever you are have a wonderful time. I will once again be in Salvador for carnaval. My favourite celebration in the world. Truly a great experience for me personally. O melhor carnaval do mundo 2009!!!
i still haven't been able to experience the lively craziness that is carnaval in my life i naively thought that carnaval would be around the first week of February (when i was in São Paulo for a week this month), so i thought: YES!! carnaval! but no... i might go to one of the carnaval bashes that are being held here in the LA region, but obviously, that's not going to be the same as being there live in Rio, Salvador or São Paulo!!! one day......................
I always go to Santa Catarina (Laguna or Garopaba) and use the holiday for some surfing and ch1ck chasing, but I won't lie. Being from the south I look forward to Oktoberfest more than I do carnaval.
WOW !!! That's awesome. I went to Salvador once. Do you go out in all the blocos ? I really wanted to go this year.
I will be everywhere. In 3 hours from now I will be marching with Timbalada. And I will for the 1st time partake in the camarote aspect of Salvador carnaval. And then there's the pipoca......wow all I can say is that is not for the faint of heart, but I love it. Absolutely love carnaval here. 1st time I went I couldn't understand the language (still can't,lol) music, etc. But now I am hooked and convinced there isn't a more wilder, crazier out of control event than this. I would like to go to Recife's too, but kind of hard to miss out on this one. Can't wait for the muvuca to start!
Make sure to catch Ivete Sangalo. I went to the Salvador Camarote ... it was $$$ but very nice. Open bar, lots of food, lots of gatinhas...
Hello BigSoccer Brasileiros/as....it's that time of the year again. Does anyone by any chance have any links to carnaval celebrations countrywide this year, I could watch live? Sadly I am unable to partake in "O melhor do carnaval do mundo" this year. Here are some links to my past 2 times in Salvador W/ photos. http://www.islandmix.com/backchat/f...salvador-da-bahia-has-offcially-begun-190715/ http://www.islandmix.com/backchat/f...val-2008-salvador-da-bahia-173030/index2.html

Sorry that I missed this post. Over the weekend there were a lot of websites with SP/RG and Bahia's featured. O Globo in the US showed a lot of the schools in the sambadrome as well.
