who else would do it? i suppose we could find the "next" seagroves or the "english" seagroves, but the poor kid would be crushed by the expectations and probably end up riding the pine at fulham.
Yes, but not before being an absolute standout on the ManU reserves boards--often mentioned in the same posting as Beckham01, Scholes_is_god and luvryangiggs.
I don't get the bump. What's the point? If there's new news, someone will post it. If not, let this thread go to page 2.
not sure if this matters, but sheffield united lost steve kabba to a broken leg - if they were ever looking for a striker, they certainly will be now
On the subway, I saw a poster for some charity event involving NY area players and coaches at Chelsea Piers where Mathis was slated to show. The event was scheduled for Jan 6, I believe. It would make sense for his Letterman appearance to be sometime around then since it is clear he will geographically close by.
Clint...PLEASE...sign with someone soon and make this thread relevant again...even if it is with "the Ruttles".....
Sheffield United have just got Wolves striker Sturridge on loan. Probably not a good sign for Mathis. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/s/sheff_utd/3357093.stm
Just for fun with the transfer window opening in a couple days I will peer into my cracked waterford crystal ball......I see Mathis....in Blue. Yes he will play for a team has blue in it's colors! I think that narrows it down some. Anyway lets get the predictions rolling and see who is right.. I predict Leicester.(for absolutely no reason at all)
If you string some of the rumors together, we know a couple things, Ruiz to Wolves looks good, so that makes sense that Wolves would loan a striker to sheffield. Rumor has it that Blackburn is looking to get Muzzy Izzet from Leicester, if this happens that opens a spot in a blue uniform.
Mathis News, Update? Any word on where Mathis is these days? Last I heard, Rangers said 'no thanks', allegedly after getting word of his exploits last season. Is he still kicking around in Europe, chugging brews in north Jersey, or what?
exactly.... that posting talks about his upcoming Rangers tryout. That tryout flubbed. Rangers, reportedly, does not want him. My question, what now?
With many clubs in financial straits or not having the financial resources to go out and purchase players I would think that many clubs would be delighted to take their chances on a free-transfer. So I see Mathis signing somewhere in Europe.
umm.. thanks. For the minority of posters here who aren't fluent in German, would you mind translating the main points?
I knew that most people wouldn't understand it but you can use babelfish or another online translator. I know, the results aren't very good, but I figured that they would nevertheless be better than my helpless tries to translate the article Okay, I will try: In the next week Us-National player Clint Mathis will have a tryout for the Bundesliga site. They talk about him scoring two goals against Germany in Rostock in March 2002 and about his haircut at the WC. He should be in hannover on Sunday and needs to show that he can stand out even without a special haircut. Carsten Linke, the manager's assistant says he thinks Mathis is more a playmaker (Zehner means the number 10, always worn by the playmaker) than a pure striker and he is curious to see in which condition he is. The article goes on talking about his tryouts for Leicester and Glasgow, quoting McLeish:" He has impressed me but he is too similar to the guys we already have on our team." Hannover would not have to pay a transfer fee.
In general: they wait to see if he will show up in a Mohawk or a more traditional haircut, Carstin Linke says they will find out soon enough. Linke sees him as a #10, though many consider him a fast, two-way striker. The report also mentions his tryout with Rangers -- who were impressed, but found him too similar in type to what they already have -- and with Leicester. Now that he is out of contract, the problem of the steep transfer fee MLS was seeking is off the table; he's available for a more reasonable figure. It also mentions the Letterman stint (anybody see that?), and that it demonstrates his popularity since, since soccer players are rarely seen on network TV shows. I hope this helps till a full translation is posted.
