Your question is answered in this thread (the answer is "about 3 or 4 months ago").

PS First Champions League broadcast in HD by Fox on August 18th - less than 3 weeks away...

No kidding, ALMIGHTY KNOW-IT-ALL, the question did not ask about HD in any way. He wanted to know if he could record a program onto a DVD. I gave him the answer on how to do it.

that'd be FSN HD, not FSC HD.

    And so ?

PS That was made clear in the detailed posts in this thread...

PPS "PS" means an extra comment not necessarily related to the rest.

Yeah, I see your point, take MSNBC for example, it launched its HD signal nationwide on June 29, but DirecTV hasn't upgraded it yet, and it's August!
If DirecTV is not upgrading one of the major news channels in the country to their HD signal, what can we expect from FSC? man, that sucks...

Comcast customers can expect it sometime in 2018...

Dish Network added MSNBC-HD on launch.

Dish's head of Programming is aware of FSC-HD and is aware of its importance to soccer fans.

Beyond that, it is impossible to say anything for sure for several months...

I am sure he's also aware of GolTV's importance to soccer fans but where's GolTV?

That was done by the previous Head of Programming.

It would not surprise me if there are some new talks between the two sides (although it may not have happened yet due to other priorities).

FSC-HD seems more likely to me, since one of the first actions of this new programming chief was to resolve all the existing disagreements with Fox, resulting in FX-HD and other Fox channels being added to Dish.

    Subscribing to the thread.

I hope FSC-HD launches on January 2010. Dish Network or Direct TV might add it on launch, but it might take another 6 months for my cable company to upgrade.

FSCHD won't launch until February 2010 at the earliest.

In the past, FSI had rebranded channels during the 2nd week of February.

DirecTV isn't going to have it directly on launch because they are out of HD capacity. They are launching a new satellite and when that satellite is ready I bet it will be on that one, but I think the timing of the new channel and the new satellite coming online won't coincide.

I do expect Dish and DirecTV to have it before cable though.

I seem to remember a lot of promises by FSC executives that we'd get the knockout round of the Champions League in HD...

I don't understand how there could be FSC-HD and have no one carry it. It's like throwing a party and no one shows up. If cable and satellite don't carry it, why would Fox pay to keep the signal going? Doesn't make any sense at all...

FOX Cable is scheduled by February 2010 to uplink just a single HD feed for each of its channels out of its Tech Center in Houston (the building formerly known as Liberty SportsCom).

The SD feeds are supposed to stop once the upgrade is complete.

The cable and satellite TV headends across the U.S. are being upgraded by FOX Cable with new digital satellite receivers to 1) downlink the HD feeds, and 2) crop the HD feeds to produce 4:3 SD signals for those viewers who don't have HD equipment.

you mean the change from FSW to FSC? I thought that was because they were taking advantage of the Super Bowl hype machine

Just because they CAN provide the knockout stages in HD doesn't mean your provider WILL deliver it.

I'm guessing the FTTH outlets would get it first?

The rebranding of FOX Sports Americas (U.S.) to FOX Sports World Espanol and FOX Sports Americas (Latin America) to FOX Sports (Latin America) took place on February 12, 1999.

The rebranding of FOX Sports World (U.S.) to FOX Soccer Channel (U.S.) took place at 00:00 ET on Monday, February 7, 2005.

They announced on air that it would launch January 1, 2010. I'd imagine since DirecTV are their big Champions League partner that they'd be the first to carry the HD feed of the channel. The head of programming is luckily a huge soccer fan so he is well aware of all of this.

Doesn't Newscorp own somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of DirecTV and 100% of FSC? That could be influential at the margin.

They don't own any part of DirecTV anymore. Their 34% stake went to Liberty Media in trade for Liberty's shares in Newscorp.

That is the big question. I have been waiting to hear myself. Like it was mentioned earlier it doesn't matter if they are broadcasting in HD if no one is carrying it. I would have thought some announcement on DirecTv would have happened since we are already in December.
