Im interested to know the best high school programs in the United States. I lived in South Carolina for a few years, and Irmo High School has about 14 states championships. What high schools in each state dominate like that? Im interested to know any other soccer "anarchy" in the states.
Jesuit (New Orleans, LA) is a beast of a squad. I think they're #2 in the nation. Also Captain Shreve (Shreveport, LA) I believe they're #7 in the nation.
http://laprepsoccer.proboards2.com/index.cgi#general That's basically where the LA high school soccer community talks about the best of the best. Jesuit and Shreve have always had great programs. I don't know if they are consistently in the national rankings. But they are always causing trouble in the playoffs.
I think every state has their local sites where you can go and talk about the best high schools programs. It will be cool to have a site where you can talk about the best high schools nationally, like the super powers from every state. I was trying to find out a source where they list the high school with more state championship in every state, then you can see which high schools are the most dominants in soccer in the States. I couldnt find any website with that kind of information, if you find something like that, let me know.
Detroit Country Day, my alma mater, has been a powerhouse in soccer for many years. In the 90s, they won 8 state championships in a row, including 2 national championships I believe. They also have the state record for most victories in a row with 79, which I think ranks up there nationally.
http://www.nscaa.com/downloads/HSBCoachingRecordsByVictories91208.html Very interesting. I wish they had a list of the schools with more state championships in the country, they have this one but is kind of confusing. http://www.nscaa.com/downloads/HSBTeamStateChampionships0804.html I will be looking around. Thanks for the source.
Klein High School in Houston (actually Spring, just north of Houston) is one of the very dominant teams in the state of Texas. The last 12 years include 3 state championships and 7 trips to the state semifinals at a minimum, as well as 7 times ranked in the top 10 nationally (including #1 in 99). You can go over the last 20 years and there are still only the 3 state titles but it becomes 14 times in the state semifinals at a minimum, 10 times in the top 10 nationally (6 of those times in the top 5).
Umm.... News Flash! Downers South beat Nap. Central in regular season and in the playoffs last year (2008). DGS also won state in 2004. I don't think Nap. C has ever won state. So I'd say if your going to list Nap. C, you better put DGS on there too......
Well I think if you are talking Illinois - you have to consider Granite City and St. Charles High School. Granite City won the state championship something like 10 times and was runner up multiple times as well. St. Charles also had a very dominant spell until they got rid of Paul Keenan as coach and the high school split into 2 separate schools.
Umm... no offense to Granite City, but I think we are talking about the best hs teams in IL now - or at least within the last few years. Not in the 70's and 80's when Granite City was winning championships. And St. Charles has a nice program - sure - but other than their back to back state titles in 1995 & 96, they are really a non- factor when talking about who is going to make the final 4 in IL each year.
There is some bias in what I write as I have coached prep school soccer in New England for sixteen years but New England Prep School soccer is considered some of the best and most competitive in the country. In terms of the number of excellent teams it is hard to find better as these schools, most of them boarding schools, draw students from all over the U.S. and globe. Every year the championship and all-star match Sunday that takes place in November regularly draws nearly 100 college coaches. As an example the NCAA Division I match between Dartmouth and Brown this past fall featured 16 players who played in New England prep school soccer.
Bishop Kelley in Oklahoma. They've won 11 straight 5A state titles. There's a chance they might get beat this year by Deer Creek because they have a powerhouse in the front, but I doubt that will happen. My freshman year they had nine starting freshmen.
Boys soccer? What kind of freshmen do they grow in Oklahoma?? Do they put them on steroids in 7th grade?
hands down it should be Shattuck-St Mary's in Faribo,MN. Its a boarding/prep school with a real soccer academy. Its in its 3rd season of having a soccer program. The school is 150 yrs old. Even thou Shattuck does not play MN High School soccer, they are now placing the players are some very good college programs. www.s-sm.org
No doubt R2F. Loved the school's video on National Letter of Intent Signing Day! Quite an impressive group of young adults!
http://sports.espn.go.com/highschool/rise/soccer/news/story?id=4285624 The list is longer but there are the top ones for this year
I've seen Christopher Dock and Council Rock (now N and S, IIRC) in PA (PIAA) quite a bit. Here in CA, no state tourney, just sectional.
I'd take that with a grain of salt. Considering it claims to be boys soccer records and Carondolet is an all girls Catholic school, in Concord, CA. What is ill is it's the sister school of the legendary De La Salle, the perennial Men's high school football powerhouse. They had some decent sports programs.
on other thing to consider is this. I finished highschool in outside of chicago. The way the state championships work were you played through your region but only like the top conference teams went to the tournament downstate. the problem was always there where like three conferences, that were deep with great teams. and they beat up on each other. so the state tournament had like two good teams from up north out of like 40 and a few good teams from down south and peoria. So the state champ was good but didn't alway have to beat a lot of good teams to get the crown since all the big northern teams canabilized each other. Same thing happens in high school basketball where all the chicago city teams beat up on each other then went downstate an lost to like Peoria Manuel or something.
Northwestern HS (Rock Hill) and Irmo (Columbia) are two of the best boys prep programs arguably nationwide.
