It would be nice, and I am sure there are a few good ones out there. Though spending time stalking a small Argentinian around the UK/World might be taking it a bit far ;)

The problem is, factually correct/interesting articles usually get lost in the crap written by the majority! They seemingly want to make a couple of phone calls sitting at a desk, write a couple of hundred words suitable for Jakanory and bugger off to the pub at lunchtime for the rest of the day...

Didn't see this posted, but Swiss dud Gelson Fernandes has left us for about half of what we paid - not bad considering he came in as one of the "most promising young talents in Europe" and showed next to no Premier League ability. Anyway, he has joined St Etienne in France and clears us of another fringe player without the required talent.

    http://goal.com/en/news/12/spain/20...-set-deadline-as-etoo-opts-to-leave-barcelona

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/2009/07/10/now-eto-0-is-given-an-ultimatum-115875-21508539/

Three sources say that Manchester City gave Eto'o a 24 hour window to respond to the offer that will pay him 180K - 200K pounds after tax per week. I am glad that we're giving him an ultimatum. We can't be dragged around by this guy forever. Enough is enough. There will be a lack of respect if keep on waiting on him while he searches for a better offer from Man Utd.

My prediction is that Man Utd can't possibly match his wage demands and won't want to. Utd is going to wait and see if we take away the offer after the 24 hours so that Eto'o won't have a choice but to take a wage cut to play for Utd. If Eto'o is all about money, he shold accept the City offer, otherwise he'll miss the opportunity. He's already rejected Barca's 2 year extension.

Right now, he wants Champions League football and the money, but for sure he can't have both so he needs to choose one. Utd won't give him both neither can we. I love the 24 hour ultimatum. City owner and officials must be taken seriously.

Another source quoting his choice between Utd and City
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ester-City-mega-telling-Barcelona-I-quit.html

Do you guys think Tevez is also waiting for this? I don't think he will want to come to City if we get Eto'o. He wants to be in the starting lineup every game. If we go with the 2 striker option, either Robinho or Tevez will need to be on the bench and I doubt either one wants to do that.

Here is one thing I have always wondered about with Eto'o: in almost every story about him coming to City there is a statement casting doubt on it because we cannot offer Champions League football. Here is a man who has already won two of them, so isn't it possible that he has a "been there, done that, have the T-shirt" attitude about it? No matter what happens, he is a legend -- how many people have scored in two European Cup finals? Let's face it, if he goes to ManU, scores 43 goals in 96 games, he is just another player for them. If he came to City and did that, he would be a legend and we would sing songs about him 20 years from now if he showed up at the ground. If he did that, AND City won an FA Cup and got into the CL, the NHS would report that 75% of all children born in Manchester have been named "Samuel" in the two years following the Cup win.

What has me excited right now is that we are a better team now (on paper of course) than last year. Even if the window shut today, we definitely good enough for a 5th to 7th place finish and a good cup run. Not saying there isn't work to be done -- two central defenders would do nicely, maybe steal Huntelaar at the deadline, but City are in good shape right now.

All we've added was Barry and Santa Cruz. There's a longshot that Petrov will be at his 2007/2008 level while Elano might leave. Do you honestly believe that without adding another CB and possibly another striker, we will have 5 more wins than we did last season?

We lost to Wigan, Spurs, Everton (last min goal), and a 10-man Stoke by 1 goal. We drew Blackburn and Hull. We finished 3 points away from 7th. We basically restructured half the team in the winter and the players had to learn to play together without the benefit of a pre-season. Look around the league and ask yourself "Who has improved their squad more than City?" I haven't seen anyone outside the Top 4 that have improved -- Everton will be largely unchanged, Fulham too, Villa has lost their captain (to us), Spurs haven't done much. West Ham have no money. This season is going to be the weakest Premier League in a decade in terms of talent, while we are moving forward and everyone else is moving backward.

No doubt we need another central defender -- if we land Lescott it is a double blow -- we get better and a rival gets worse, just like the Barry signing. Tevez as well - we get him and keep him away from anyone else. And if Elano plays next year the way he played in 2008-09, then he is not much of a loss. I'm not saying CL next season, but 7th is easily reachable with or without anymore changes to the team. To ask you a question: Is there any doubt that whoever we bring in in the next 8 weeks will be better than the talent leaving? None in my opinion.

I think the Eto'o chase is over. One of these days guys, one of these days, superstars will be lining up to join City. Trust me, it hurts me every time we offer this much money and still get rejected.

We need to work with what we have and make it to the Champions League first. For the likes of Eto'o, Europa is not even good enough, it has to be Champions League.

All eyes on Tevez. Forget Terry, for sure he's not coming. I think the Tevez deal is just a matter of buying out the third party interest.

Yeah, Eto'o is in a no lose situation -- he could either join City and get a huge weekly wage, or he could run his contract out and essentially get a huge signing bonus if he decides to move on a Bosman. I'm glad we cut the chase short - we need the threat that we'll walk away to build credibility in this market.

I'm glad that we had the balls to stand up to one of the best players in the world, a Champions League winning striker, and say "We will not be screwed around".

Will give us a lot more credibility in the transfer market.

We really need to nail this Tevez deal now though ..

Looks like the end of the Eto'o chase

    http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Team-news/2009/July/City-end-Etoo-chase

I think this is good news - not sure Eto'o would thrive in the English league, tevez and Santa Cruz is a more than adequate partnership. And £200 k a week

mixed messages over Tevez - The Times says he should join by Tuesday (before pre-season trip) but the Daily Star says he's holding out for a move to Chelsea

Several papers saying Terry wants to speak to City

Tevez going to earn £150k a week apparently

also linked with Bruno Alves (£20m )

why in the world would we want him? he is a great player but we're full of strikers right now. We need to unload 3 bench strikers at least. I don't think Arsenal will sell him anyways.

Yeah I thought that after the Eto'o deal had fallen through that we really wouldn't be going after another striker (besides Tevez). Sky Sports says that City and Arsenal aren't commenting on the Adebayor negotiations (if they are indeed happening).I'd feel a lot more comfortable if I started to see City going after defenders (besides Terry) much more aggressively.

Hughes has said all along that he wants to buy before he sells.

I think this will leave us with a strikeforce of: RSC, Tevez, Adebayor, Boj, Bellamy and Robinho. Interesting to see what formation we play next year, but we would have massive amounts of depth. Tevez, Robinho, Boj and Bellamy can play out wide if needed, so it gives us a lot of versatility.

We'll definitely have depth in a 4-3-3/4-5-1 assuming Tevez and Ade come to town:

    CF: Adebayor, RSC, Boj, Caicedo,
    LF/LW/LM: Robinho, Bellamy, Petrov
    RF/RW/RM: Tevez and SWP

Central Mids and Holders: Ireland, Barry, De Jong, Elano, Zab or Kompany, MJ if he recovers...

There's a rumour about Trezeguet out there, but if we sign Ade I can't see it happening.

Can't wait for the season to start.

Don't forget Vlad the Impaler for RW/RF. And Vincent will most likely be out for a bit, but we have more than enough cover. I imagine, from what has come in the past, we will not go for a 4-3-3 (definitely not Hughes style) or a 3-5-2, so I think it will be primarily a 4-5-1 or a 4-1-3-2. Ade/RSC, Robinho/Petrov, Ireland/Elano, Barry, De Jong/Kompany (when he is back fit), Tevez/SWP, Bridge (wish we would get a better leftback), Whoever we get to play CB, Onouha (would like a more experienced CB), Richards/Zabaleta.

You're right, Trezeguet definitely isn't coming to City.

Now to see if Tevez will finally ink this deal sometime over the next few days (I am doubtful that it will be today as some reports suggest, but it would be a nice surprise all the same).

Well, Sturridge is already gone, Jo is gone on loan, Evans is likely to be sold, and looks like Caicedo could be out. That would still leave us with Tevez, Adebayor, Santa Cruz, Bellamy, Bojinov, and Robinho (not a striker but plays close to the frontline) though, very loaded. I'm a bit iffy on signing Adebayor, I'd prefer if we bid for an Aguero or Pato, possibly Huntelaar, but it seems like the brass really want to turn heads and they would be weakening a top four team while strengthening ours.

Excellent signing, the transfer season has been good so far for us, despite the Eto'o issues. Barry, Santa Cruz, and now Tevez with the likelihood of Lescott and a world class centre back, be it Terry, Bruno Alves, or someone else, joining them... oh and looks like another striker too. Can't wait for the new season!
