Well, it was another Italian team that did the same with a player named Denis Bergkamp. So it tells more about the quality of the coaching of those teams in that period than that it tells you something about the quality of the players.... and of course about the quality of their supporters that think that that judgement is right. It might have escaped your attention, but among the nominated players for the best player of the season in the EPL this year was only one goalie and guess who he was......... Edwin van der Sar How many goals did Edwin van der Sar have to swallow in the EC2008 match against Italy and how many that Buffoon.....
Agreed. He should go to England and test his skills against the greatness that is West Brom and Sunderland
It's funny that he mentions Genoa and Udinese. And it's funny that he thinks Buffon's saves are worth less because he plays in Italy, as if physics worked in a whole different way there.
Casillas is IMO the best keeper nowadays. The backline of Real is all but good, and he still plays amazingly well. Buffon is past his prime and the others don't come too close, except maybe Julio Cesar.
I have to agree on the Casillas part, he consistently makes the most saves in La Liga due to the dodgy Real defense, and is a genuine all-round keeper. Wouldn't say Buffon is past his prime though. He's still only 31, not at all old for keeper, so if he can keep clear of his injuries he should have many good season ahead of him. I've also been impressed by Reina this season, although he's still a bit too dodgy in the air for my liking.
Casillas has not been good this season. Ya the Madrid defense is rocky but there has been shots that have gotten by him that he normally does not allow
Tim Howard should be there instead of Reina and Valdes...Spanish nuthugger. Most shutouts in Everton history past season.
Which goals would he have prevented? He wouldn't have prevented either of Henry's two or Messi's two. Even if he somehow prevented Puyol's header and/or Pique's freak goal, it still would have been 4-2 Barca.
"You have no idea how difficult it is to take you seriously with posts like that. Makes you look 10 years old."
I voted for Julio Cesar, he's number 1 keeper in the world. I mean Brazil has only allowed 6 goals in 14 qualifiers. I don't think they've ever allowed so few goals up to this point in their previous qualifying campaigns. And I've watched him win them points in matches they should've lost by at least 2 goals. I mean it's not like they've got Maldini, Cannavaro or Thuram in their back 4....teams get a lot of opportunities vs. Brazil. For them to have only allowed 6 goals after 14 matches is more of a testament to his keeping ability rather than them dominating teams defensively.
This is 2008 not 2004. The players you mentioned are has-beens. Maldini is retired now, Thuram retired last year due to a heart condition and Cannavaro is injury prone. I would rather have Brazil's current D over them for sure.
Actually it's 2009. I was referring to them when they were at their playing best for club and country, not currently.
