Well, maybe not.... But a 2-0 victory over Nantes looks like it will mean another year of L1 football for Nancy...
Good for them but I dont really care about it either way. I dont wanna see St. Etienne or Nantes go down.
No no les stephanois could use some time in L2 to clear their heads a bit . Good for Nancy though, nice to see ya again sl7vk.
Nantes is Nancy 10 years ago. L'ascenseur on overdrive. Up and down... Up and down... If after 38 matches you can't finish in the top 17, than you have no right to be in the top flight. Go back to L2, retool, bet better, and give it another shot in the future.
We all rejoice ! It's good to see there is some room left for amateurism in the league ! Who needs a budget, anyway ?
No, no, I really like Nancy. Without the hype and fuss of all the big brands, they are still here, doing the job. Can you imagine that, last season, they recruited only one player ?
How many players have they recruited the last 4 years? Versus all the names they've sold.... Got to love Correa and Nancy. Pierre-Henri, I'm looking forward to seeing Strasbourg in L1 next year. Love watching Nancy step on their throughts year in and year out....
Nothing is done yet. The last game vs Montpellier will be decisive. After 37 games, the last one is a do or die situation. BTW, MLS fans don't know what they miss with their no pro/no rel league. Unfortunately, the fact we have to play a decisive last game also proves how mediocre the team was overall. Certainly not ligue 1 level. Even if we're promoted, this could be another yo-yo season.
The worst thing is : it was well deserved. The team wasn't simply good enough. Even finishing the league 4th was a small miracle. By the way, the President, Philippe Ginestet, is building a "Grand Stadium." Sure. Very useful when the team will gather 650 fans to see it struggle its way through National. All taxpayers rejoice ! We'll have a "grand stadium" ! The only thing we're lacking now is a team.
I'd rather have Strasbourg up over Montpellier but neither have really great fans. Boulogne-sur-Mer coming up will be interesting. Home town of Jean-Pierre Papin and Franck Ribery.
I am sorry that Strasbourg and Montpellier couldn't both be promoted this season. Two lovely cities that really deserve to have L1 football. I'm honestly shocked that Montpellier pulled through. It was a maddeningly inconsistent season. I wasn't able to watch a single match other than Nantes away, but it was clear from reports that this team needs to improve a considerable amount to have a real chance of staying up. More strength in midfield, a faster LB, and better depth are all real needs.
True. I've followed ligue 2 this season, and the overall level of the league was bad. Lens wasn't extraordinary, and yet they managed to dominate everything. Boulogne is nothing but a honest, enthousiastic small town team (nothing to write home about, really), but they'll play major league next season. Montpellier and Strasbourg offered uneven, all in all mediocre performances, but finished at the top of the league anyway. French soccer, as a whole, is sliding a dangerous slope.
