That guy needed to keep talking about going to a crew game. I think the whole grass roots movement to get sports talk shows in to soccer is a great way of going about raising the status of MLS in the states.

Mike is on to something with what he has been doing with that one columbus sports radio show.

He was a guest not just a random caller. (On a nationaly syndicated radio show) It wasn't just some Crew fan calling in.

Good shout for the Crew, but even that short bit reminds me why I dont watch PTI, Mike-n-Mike, etc... They speak of soccer as if it has AIDS or something. Even on a sports show, they'd rather talk about Kato Kaelin.

DP said that when you watch European soccer it has a football atmosphere. In my opinion, that's a bit flattering for the NFL.

I'd rather they ignore it than spout off ignorance.

My thoughts exactly. 60,000 thousand people shouting D-Fence every defensive 3rd down is nothing like 60,000 people singing different chants the entire game. The NFL's dirty secret is live games are not really that fun to go to. You don't understand the media timeout concept until you've seen an NFL game live.

I never got the fascination of big time TV/radio guys like Rome, Kornheiser, Patrick, etc. and their love of trashing soccer. It's an easy take for American sports talk radio, one which to me is pretty stale.

Kudos to that guy for getting that massive plug for the Crew in there.

I think it was Paul, his producer. He's apparently a big Liverpool fan (also works for ESPN and other networks, so his picking the Crew as the best atmosphere in MLS has some value as he has been to quite a few stadiums I would guess()

the thread needs a new title: Crew gets no love on the Dan Patrick show.

they get 30 seconds to talk about david beckham, and the host doesn't even want to do it because soccer sucks. and the guy says "go to a Columbus Crew game" while the other guy is talking over him.

he doesn't even respond. he starts talking about OJ's houseguest. if you ask me, the Crew just got dissed.

You are 100% absolutely right. That's what I try to tell some of my friends who never seen a football game live, it is NOT half as good as it looks on TV. I volunteered for the Super Bowl committe in Miami 2 years ago when the Colts vs Bears played, I had almost full access to anywhere in the stands, I stood almost anywhere and believe me when I say it, I was so bored and I was so shocked to see how simple and average the game was. But when I got home and watched ESPN, it was the hottest game on TV. That's why I don't buy into that ESPN/media crap and the hype and technology they put into the games. But good point.

Yes, MLS took an overall beating in that clip. However, I am VERY proud of the producer's little retort: "You should attend a Columbus Crew game" in response to the "In Europe, that is a real soccer atmosphere." LOVE IT.

I sent an email with these two videos, asking them to kindly sit Dan Patrick down and have them watch them.

I been to Old Trafford before, the stadium is great but it's just like the NFL, mainly just clapping and sitting on your hands.

The Mancs away fans are fantastic. Non stop noise the whole game. Good inventive songs. It's a shame that Old Trafford is so diluted nowadays. Same with most of the other big teams.

Yesterday Michael Arace of the Dispatch was on 610's sportstalk segment about the BJ's. He said the BJ's fan are getting into the 'passion zone' and the feedback to the team is noticeable.. "though it doesnt yet approach that with the Crew and Crew fans of last fall"

'course Arace has been on-board for a while now.

True. I'm not bashing the CBJ's here, but i'd imagine it may be kind of hard to get any organic cheers going when you've usually got about five minutes or less until the organ starts up, or the jock rock is blasted.

It'd be nice to someday see a "Nordecke" at CBJ games, with people standing and constantly cheering, but the way the typical American sports scene is, it probably won't happen.

IIRC, DCU fans tried this at a Caps game a few years ago and it didn't go over so well.
