Here's an article from Monday that mentions Tabe (and Colin Burns):

The club is Ljungskile SK I believe.

    Good for him.

As I said, very unlikely he was going to get a sniff with Sparta for a variety of reasons (listed earlier). Quite frankly, coming from the level he's leaving it'll be better for him to play 2nd division ball and get accustomed to the pace of the game at the professional level through first team matches.

That said, he's clearly a long way away from the National Team at the moment (as also suggested earlier).

Keep the updates coming. It's a good opportunity for the kid.

Ljungskile SK were just promnoted to the Allsvenskan so my guess is that they are trying to build depth in their squad and probably have a very limited budget like most of the clubs in Sweden. I hope Tabe can impress them and secure a deal. Good luck to him!

There's an update, but of course I don't know what it says:

    A) Have we confirmed the team Etchu is joining is Ljungskile SK?

    B) Is Ljungskile SK in the top flight of Swedish soccer, like Hammarby, Malmo etc...?

They were just prmoted after finishing runner-up in the 2nd division. I don't think they have spent too many years in the Allsvenskan but they have traditionally been on the cusp of promotion but haven't been able to quite get over the hump from what I've been able to gather.

I had someone who's linguistically in the know help me take a look at this. Here's the translation we were able to come up with:

"One goal and one assist. American Etchu Tabe, 21, introduced himself quickly to Ljungskile SK in a scrimmage for new and prospective players. Etchu Tabe came almost straight from the US and had never played on artificial turf [our approximation of "konstgräs"] before. The forward, born in Cameroon, was alert in the December haze. Tabe has only played college soccer and he's now working on securing a professional contract--preferably in Sweden. "I love playing soccer, and becoming a professional is my goal," he said to Bohusläningen after the scrimmage.

So, it doesn't look like there's any update on his contract situation, but he does appear to have impressed so far.

    Hello

I am fan of LSK. first i would like to apologise for my english.

But if where are going to talk about Ecthu. We, fans of LSK are very pleased that Etchu has signed at contract with LSK. Many supporters has wished since the trial in december that Etchu would sign. And now he had signed it.

I saw him while he was overhere on trial and i got really impressed by him.

Well LSK is favourites to get relegated from the first division. So Etchu has to fight, so there is a big difference between LSK and Malmö.

    Hello,
Well, he is officially a player of Ljungskile SK. The team was just promoted to the first division, and yes, they needed a striker to contribute to stay at a top level. I know there are going to be a lot of critics, but i can assure you that he will be making some headlines. It will be a good thing for u.s soccer. He is a product of the u.s, and for long, many european countries have not respected american players, and he does not just represent himself, if he leaves up to his potential, which i certainly believe he has, it would be great for future young talents in the u.s. Don't get me wrong i am not calling in the "savior of soccer", but saying he will be one among many americans overseas making a name for themselves, and improving the image of talent in the u.s

Going to Ljungskile won't mean a great pay day, but it will be a good shop window if he'll play well in the Allsvenska. Ljungskile will have to perform a miracle not to be relegated (they are by far the smallest and weakest team in Allsvenskan 2008) but if Tabe performs well he'll likely get the chance to move on to a better Swedish club where there is decent money or another scandinavian club.

He hasn't made a name for himself yet. He hasn't even played a game!

Good that you are supporting, but you would be more credible if you would sit back and let the guy actually do something in a regular season game or 2 before portraying him as the best American player ever and World Cup bound for 2010.

Etchu has a lot to prove yet. Hope he does! :)

Just read this entire thread as I had absolutely no idea who Etchu was. This is an exciting situation to keep tabs on. A completely unkown US soccer player earns a trial from Sparta and signs a contract with a Swedish team! I wouldn't be so excited if this kid wasn't a forward. This could get interesting.

"The Cameroon-boon forward joins the promoted side after a trial with Eredivisie strugglers Sparta Rotterdam."

    That's a bad omen.

@ DIF1891. With all due respect, when the first thing than you mention is about his pay day, well, you don't happen to know the terms of his contract, and it would be wise to read his contract terms in you had access to it before mentioning his pay day. But the most important thing i know is, the love for the game is more than any amount of money you can pay a player. We live in a capitalist world, and i am well aware the power of money in any society, but i assure you that, for many true football fans, and players, the love of the game is greater than the love for the money.

Don't really get your point. I wanted to inform people on here that signing with Ljungskile SK is not a great pay day. I don't know if this kid would get an MLS deal but if he could he would probably not be paid much less.

That because Ljungskile is by far the smallest club in our top flight with the least fans, and least money.

But good luck to him and all that. If he does well maybe he can love the game even more next year at a bigger swedish club where there's fans, a shot of playing in european competition, winning something etc.

I believe that it is the top video in the list.

Is Etchu the taller of the two players interviewed?

And can someone translate what he had to say? I don't know any Sweedish.

    Hope it will work nnow.

Yes, he has been training with LSK for a few weeks now and David Wilson (LSK's manager) seems to be impressed.

Trevallion: No that clip is about two players from cameroum (?) that have been signed by Örebro SK, another team i "Allsvenskan"

I really hope that Etchu does well...It's the makings of a great story!
