I liked the racism against New Zealanders v. Australians. Right when they touched on the racism I knew they would be fitting Albie the Racist Dragon into the episode which I could have done without. Murray having a crush on the computer lady was a good idea but they could have done so much more with it. Overall the episode had some good ideas but just wasn't put together very well.
Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that! Well, having rewatched the episode and having read people's reactions, I suppose this episode had some really good individual moments that somehow didn't coalesce into a really good overall episode. Why? I'm not sure, but that's how it feels.
Living in New York (and being of partial African ancestry), I found this episode to be one of the most brilliant things on TV in a long time... That whole short exchange between Bret & Gemaine and their "bist frind in Amirica" was absolutely stunning for its sublety... "You're Indian, aren't you? You don't hate us...." "Well, sometimes, I do..." "But you're our bist frind..." LOL!
It simultaneously barbecues the notions of: Some of my best friends are, so I'm not... America as the great melting pot... New York as a truly cosmopolitan city...
How does it bbq the notion of NY as a cosmopolitan city? Just because we hate each other doesn't mean we aren't cosmopolitan
Exactly! In NYC anyone and everyone from around the world can come together and....hate the Australians.
Last night was a pretty good episode. A very cheeky plot. The songs have always been funny, but this was some of the best writing script-wise that I've seen so far on this show. The whole dynamic with Bret and not wanting to have sex/playing the role of the female in the relationship was pretty good.
Really? I thought the episode got a little slow, although I enjoyed it. Just not as funny as some of the previous ones.
I thought that was one of the better Murray episodes, but it got overshadowed by the main plot, which was, for lack of a better term, sexier. Good episode overall though.
Agreed. Bret in the shower was great, though, and I loved the last line. Sometimes I do feel sorry for Jemaine however! The only (slight?) comment I'd make is...isn't it time they got some gig or something? It's frustrating because the show follows Entourage, which is far more plot-driven, so it's difficult to go from a real series (in the strict sense of the word) to a show with a more sitcom-type feel. I just feel that the show has sort of plateaued--not that I'm dissatisfied!--and could benefit from a few more plot wrinkles that last for longer than just one episode.
If they go multiple seasons, they'll have to, but for now, the characters aren't fleshed out to the point that it really matters one way or another.
Does anyone know if this is getting picked up for a second season? While a couple of episodes have been a little slow. This is a great show.
Good point. I suppose I'm expecting too much, too soon. Oh do they? Why do I never watch the "coming up next week" part?
This might have been my favorite episode so far. I loved the aggressiveness of the hot girl and the Murray scenes.
I thought the first song was pretty great. "...voila! Mon Pasporte!" "Foux da Fa Fa"
I was a big fan of the whole role-reversal theme, Bret played the part perfectly and the girl talking about female "blue balls" was pretty funny.
The girl had a lot of good lines about going to Iraq and being in Delta Force. My favorite line was when Bret was talking about her and said, "She has two jobs. She's a pastry chef and a sniper."
This show had a lot of often subtle yet hilarious one-liners. Yet somehow, I think it was one good song away from being a really great show. Wasn't there only just the one song?
Yeah one song and it was pretty funny. I don't think it needed a second song, it had me in stitches all night.
