so I decided to dig into the Journey mode last night....I was not sure I'd like it...but I have to say, I'm really liking it and got pretty hooked into it...wound up playing about 2 hours longer than I should have and need to hurry up and hit the coffee at work.....
My will is fading quickly and I want to buy the game. Every day at work I check /r/fifa and it makes me want it. I might have to snag a copy and play after work.
I've been dying to get FIFA 17. I was on vacation last week and had everyone blowing me up trying to get me to play them. PES really crapped the bed for me last year. Too many weird, glitchy gameplay quirks, and the chemistry feature was ridiculous. It says a lot that I came crawling back to FIFA last year and tried to make it work, until I fell into a rabbit hole with Dark Souls and the Witcher. The best approach to playing PES is to wait until you get tired of FIFA IMO. The customization of kits and stadiums has always leveled out the lack of licensing for me, but last year, I went all in on PES, and it took over a month from launch to release a roster that had the summer transfers. By the time FIFA bores you, Konami will have updated the game with boot packs and a few roster updates to make it more tolerable.
I finally got the time to start The Journey portion of the game. It took me a little while to decide which EPL team to choose for The Journey (the choice must be made before starting the mode), but I finally decided on Tottenham Hotspur because of their official partnership with my San Jose Earthquakes. -G
I stopped playing the journey. I got loaned out to Villa and the line-ups that Villa was using was a joke. 5 of the starters don't even play for Villa anymore (they were sold in August). Does the Journey not use updated squads? Then the other 5 players (not including hunter) were all either youth players with ratings in the low 60s, or players who are rotting in Villa's reserves. No one from Villa's regular XI made it to the Journey's XI. I don't get it. Stats wise it didn't make sense. Why does Agbonlahor who is 71 rated start over Ayew 77, McCormack 76, Kodjia 74, or Gestede 75 rated?? Why is Grealish 73 and Adomah 75 rated in the reserves while Green 63 and Sellars 61 rated both start on the wings?? It honestly ruined the game for me. I felt like I was playing for Villa's reserves. It also made it difficult to play because I was using kids with bad ratings against players in the 70s.
The AI in career mode is annoying. It feels like the CPU literally cheats at times. Some of the goals I concede are insane or just happen to fall perfectly to the guy who is wide open back post for a tap in while I am missing numerous breakaways all match but the previous match I scored 5 doing the same thing. What really sucks is how hard it is to get the ball off the CPU. I typically have 40% possession or less no matter who I play. Their passes is always 90%+ while mine is not. It's not like I do hard passes, it's just randomly a pass will go no where near the person I played it to. Lowering the difficulty makes the game way too easy.
It appears that FIFA 17 broke the franchise's record for first-week sales previously held by FIFA 13. -G
Dammit ea keeps getting away with releasing glitchy games. So far this is what I have encountered: Button delay. The amount of times I have had open net goals saved because of this is ridiculous. There is about a second delay on the shoot and pass buttons which means if you pass it across the goal to your wide open player, you often have to hit it first time because in the second is takes for the game to register the shoot button after you take your first touch, it's too late and you've had the ball stripped off of you. It's the same thing for passing. If you pass to someone with even a little pressure on them, you have to first touch pass it elsewhere. Anyone else notice how slow and inaccurate player switching is this fifa? The game doesn't switch you to the player closest to the ball. You often have to switch through multiple players before getting to the player you need which sometimes is too late. Through balls are really inaccurate as well. Quite often I see my player making a great diagonal run, but when I hit the through ball button, the ball goes straight into the defender instead of the open space. EA is really pushing for the driven through ball this fifa by making the regular through ball ineffective. Players will always chest the ball even when heading is the smarter option. What makes this so frustrating is chesting the ball typically takes the ball 5 feet ahead of you. I have conceded a few own goals because my opponent drilled a cross in which I was spamming clear, but my defender decided to chest it which resulted the first touch to go into goal. It sucks because I had zero control of that and it was all game error.
I've noticed that the game can be a bit laggy. Not just player switching but overall play. I love it overall though. The physics of the new engine make it feel so much more organic. The flicks and passes are more natural, and they did away with the physics-defying fadeaway pass. Shooting is more realistic looking too, and keepers seem to be improved, from what I've seen so far. I haven't scored from distance too much yet, and I would score from 30+ nearly once a game in last year's edition. It still makes me mad that fullback support is a gameplay setting and not something you can adjust in tactics.
I can honestly say I have not had any of the first three issues you named here. The chest/header thing does seem random to me though and I'd say 50% of the time doesn't go the way I think it should.
Hate this goddamn game. Hate the engine. Screws literally every other pass I have up. I'm so sick of holding Lb and running at Messi and he continues to stare at me instead of go on a run....then when he does go on a run, it's ********ing awkward as shit and cuts the angle off. Finishing in front of goal sucks ass. Back to Fifa 16 I go. I absolutely hate this new engine.
As someone who's played FIFA since the 97 edition, kinda looking forward to getting this game but I feel "meh" about it since it's just graphics upgrades.
I think the graphics upgrade was disappointing relative to the hype. I'm still happy with the purchase though. I think I like the delay in shooting between pressing the button and the player cranking a shot. It's a bit more realistic in terms of thought process in reality, and it makes you plan ahead. The chest/header thing is maddening. Probably half of the goals I concede in the career mode occur when my defender tries to chest the ball down and volley it in a crowd instead of just heading clear.
So in career mode.. is there a glitch that doesnt allow my created player to get national team callups?
Not that I remember. I have created a player and, if they're at a certain level and depending on the country he'll hail from, they'll usually get called up by their national team.
I have a American created player.. rating of 89 solid stats.. playing great and season stats to match... No invites Beyond 1 at the beginning of career mode.. bery frustrating.... as frustrating as the stamina sub out glitching...stamina low 90s but still subbed out at halftime
I had the same problem but then I adjusted it with the sensitivity adjustment. Do you have that option on yours? Tom Falater
Hmm...I'll have to check that. Just under gameplay options? I'm sure they made that a universal option...I'm on the PS4.
For me, I don't like that you can't take hard, low penalties (or maybe I just haven't figured it out). You can control the direction of the kick left or right, but the more power you put, the higher the ball goes. That's been frustrating.
