Another game where our talent was clearly superior. Bremen is so, so ordinary except maybe Klaassen as a slightly better Delaney and just like our previous games againt them, tactically they are kindergarten level. I don't know how they do it. We just cannot kill off teams. Towards the end, it didn't even look like we wanted the win until we suddenly felt the urgency in the last minutes. With a little luck Paco even makes the goal after that nice Brandt run. We created enough chances to win but we also allowed too much for a good team. I thought the players who came in were the right ones but I agree, taking out Dahoud didn't help. Brandt should have rather come in for Reus who had another poor game and it hurts us. I know he's a hard worker and helps out all over the field but we need his goals and assists. I'd even have preferred for Götze to stay in instead of Reus.
7th place, maybe 8th tomorrow. That’s about the level we are on, unfortunately. It was after loss to Bremen almost 2 years ago PB was sacked. Hope the leadership is aware of the situation. Just as we dropped points against Apoel, we’ll do against Slavia Prague
At this stage everybody is close together so I don't care whether we are 3rd or 8th. We are still only 3 points behind Bayern. I don't know whether it's comparable but our situation reminds me a bit about Bayern dropping their points last year, although a bit further down the first half of the season. At the time I thought that Bayern should continue trusting Kovac. Now, in our case with such a start and considering the relatively easy schedule so far, I would guess that the management has to at least start thinking about whether Favre is still the right one.
Disappointing draw, what a waste when the BL title race is the most open it's been in years. Off to read how the Yanks forum rips apart Lampard, Chelsea, n CP's teammates to cheer up.
We suck, plain and simple!!! If I was management I'd go see Favre and give him an ultimatum. Get results or be gone. If we can't compete against Union and Bremen, what kind of result are we in for against Leipzig, Bayern and dreaded Schalke? These results here are not acceptable for this group. Got one chance, get it Right!!
U sound like one if them local fans bud. With the amount of money we spent this summer and the quality in the squad we should be topping the league and nit sitting 7th point gap shouldnt matter. We dropped points in 3 games out of 6 and these were the easier teams. Nevertheless knowing our watzke nothing dramatic gonna happen, best case scenario favres gone in winter, when the whole season is doomed...
Who is available that is high calibre that could realistically replace Favre at this point? There is no point replacing one mediocre coach with another mediocre coach.
I should have worded it differently. Of course, it's dreadful being down there in the table. But the point was that at this stage the difference between 3rd and 8th can be one matchday. So it's relatively irrelevant as an argument as it was pretty much our drop from one week to the other. None of our issues would be different had Paco scored with luck in the last minute giving us the second place. And yes, with the schedule we had, we should have had a perfect record. Also, I've seen this talk about the mythical local fans several times here (not only in the BVB forums) as if they are a monolithic group. For example, all of them licking up the bs by the management and praying in front of a Favre shrine. Even if I lived closer to that region with a better understanding of the people, I'd hope I would still not make these generalizing statements as they are rather pointless and likely baseless.
a couple days later.. im still not over this drop in points... we just dont know how to win in crucial situations.
Just about to say the same. It's about the mentality the coach sets the team up with. Top teams go to dominate every match and know they will slaughter the weaker teams. They bring on hungry players, who want to break into the first team. We should be winning matches. With Favre this is never going to happen.
It hurts because nothing changes. It was the same bs against Bremen last season, 32nd matchday. We take a comfortable 2:0 lead but lose two points within a few minutes by being passive and losing any kind of control over the game. It was one of several games to pick that cost us the league. Recent interview from Watzke: They won't change the season targets and will still try everything to win the league title. He further proposes that we should stop being too much in love with our own football, we should fall in love with winning. Instead of defining ourselves too much by nice football which won't be enough to win us anything, hard defensive work should be added. We have to learn again to defend our own goal. He named Juventus as an example as a very result oriented team. Reus mentioned something similar a few weeks ago. It's a bit alarming if a team has to learn that, to be honest. Either way, words are easy. A willingness to change and improve is always good but it's worthless rhetoric in the end if we don't see that on the field.
