Here's an interesting one -- an Illinois-born '99 midfielder at Atlante who apparently made a Copa MX appearance in March. http://www.atlantefc.mx/plantel/detalle/317 http://ligamx.net/cancha/jugador/123694/eyJpZENsdWIiOiAxMDc4OX0=/adrian-villa-aguilar
His Copa MX appearance was not in March, but on July 25 (which happened to be a Martes - Tuesday, per the Liga MX database) The Liga MX database also says he's registered to Atlante's first team and is described as a defensive midfielder. Based on his Instagram, he may have previously been at Celaya. Nothing in the ol' database about that, though.
Duh. I thought I looked up a match report, but anyway here is a report. He got a start and played an hour: Atlante.- Eduardo Bravo, Francisco Gamboa, Shelby Martínez, Jesús Vázquez, Gabriel España, Alan Zamora, Carlos Cauich (Paul Uscanga, 46), Daniel Hernández, Felipe Reynero, Adrián Villa (Francisco Flores, 60) y Arturo Avilés (Diego Aguilar, 60). DT Raúl Gutiérrez. http://www.radioformula.com.mx/notas.asp?Idn=701063&idFC=2017
Also of note: the vast majority of our Mexican-Americans down south are in Liga MX academies and play in the Liga MX U20/U17/U15 leagues. Atlante is now in Ascenso MX and they don't get to field squads in those youth leagues. If Villa doesn't play in league games in Ascenso MX with the first team, he will probably play for their third division affiliate, Pioneros de Cancún, in what is now called Serie A of Liga Premier (formerly....Liga Premier de Ascenso of the Segunda Division). That league doesn't start until August 11.
Registered with Atlante in the Ascenso. Perhaps one to watch. http://www.ligabancomer.mx/cancha/jugador/123694/eyJpZENsdWIiOiAyfQ==/adrian-villa-aguilar
Odd that his profile shows that he's played the one Copa MX game last fall but nothing at youth/reserve team levels.
