They'll be fine, given the right coaching, and availability and health. I am worried that the coach may continue with the MLS lifer try hard drivel we keep insisting we can play in the middle of the midfield against the likes of two top 10 in the world squads like Colombia and England. That is a problem. I can deal with the ups and downs if there is a clear plan and the right individuals are in charge. I believe in Stewart's talent, I'm not sure about ANYONE else in the fed, and am deeply weary of the potential hire. I can't believe we've waited 13 months and could end up with someone we could've hired before Halloween 2017 w/o a seconds thought. That will be inexcusable.
This is not a schedule for a rebuilding team doing talent evaluation coached by an interim placeholder. This is a schedule for a drilled team of veterans who play a system with a great coach. You do not become good by "playing Brazil." That is a fallacy. Otherwise everyone Brazil so to speak played would immediately levitate. You improve by putting in the hard work against more reasonable opposition, you learn how to play the game and finish a result, and when you have some results I schedule Brazil as a test. This is test after test after test for 6 months by a team that's doing self study and needs a teacher. And where a chunk of the team over time is not ready, may not ever be, and will disappear over time. People need to quit treating this like some legacy team fresh off the world cup and ready for Brazil, and start treating it like a team that missed the world cup, got leveled on age and quality basis, and is basically trying to rebuild itself from the ground up. The Astros after they traded everyone in the early 20-teens. It is going to be a longer process and we're going to need a system to compete, and a few iterations of new players coming in. You can go ahead and schedule the Red Sox now and embarrass yourself, and learn jack squat since we have no good coach, or you can tune this to the level that the team is actually performing at, and try and build a system, find players, get results, without getting crushed walking out. I think y'all have it hopelessly backwards. My club team won a couple state titles in HS. Until we got there and even after, basically anyone was expendable. After years of ruthless upgrades we got there. Only then did we play big tournaments where you run up against national level teams. Until then what is the freaking point at all. You build the team first and then challenge the built up project with tests. You don't test a team we have implemented no system on and are still running out talent V.1 after the implosion. Why? Like I said, basically boils down to the "playing Brazil makes you better" fallacy, except Brazil tends to win them and if you look at their schedule it's actually littered with several sacrificial lambs (eg, El Salvador, Saudi Arabia), who probably also had your illusions. People need to come off of thinking like they are fans of a top 16 team that should regularly play other teams that level, and think like they are 5th in CONCACAF and then got rid of old players, and drill and schedule accordingly. Also worth pointing out that just getting your head kicked in repeatedly with no soft games leaves me wondering where any learning is to get displayed. I get one of these. I don't get not teaching your kid to swim, throwing him in the deep end, fishing him out of the pool like a lifeguard, toss him back in the deep end, fish out, toss in. Give your kid some lessons and maybe try the kiddie pool while they learn to swim. Once you've done your freaking job then take them back to the deep end. You don't enhance your swimming knowledge by trying not to drown in the 8 foot deep end of the pool when you barely understand swimming. Here's a swimming lesson. We'll play El Salvador. I thought i would read a forum for usa fans while watching the match just to get an insight into how americans see football. Some of the comments on here are pretty laughable bordering on truely idiotic. You were playing a defensive style due to the fact you are a poor international team, if you had played more attacking or aggressively as someone stated it wouldn't have been 3-0, it would have been 6 or 7. Sometimes you just have to admit you are not very good and were beaten by a better team, remember that wasn't even England's first 11. Pulisic looks a player and a decent prospect for yourselves for the future but lets be honest here, everyone else is pretty average and would wtruggle to get into a league 2 team in England, thats the 4th division by the way. i like watching the MLS in England but again the quality is poor and your structure is setup to fail. Drafts, playoffs, ludicrous wage cap and of course geography will always be your downfall unfortunately. Trying to setup a football league in the same way as the NFL is never gonna work, hence the reason no one else does it. I digress, you played a spirited game, hard work and graft but with very little quality hence the passing back all the time as no one to pass forward to, it all works hand in hand. Not meant to be anything aggressive or negative just my observations from a cousin across the pond.
That's what we've been trying to make the morons who run soccer in this country understand. If it were up to the fanbase, it would have already been done.
If anyone thought we are even close to a squad like England, they have been fooling themselves. How can we expect young kids that are just getting started with European careers to compete with English players playing at some of the biggest clubs in the world. Let’s be honest - being a Schalke, Dortmund or Wolfsburg player is no comparison to playing for United, Spurs, City or any other top 10 English club. Give our kids some time, they will get better. That being said, it’s an absolute embarrassing situation our Federation has put these players in. No system, no tactics, no having to prove yourself to the manager. Losses like this fall on the Federations shoulders just as much as the players. Figure it out USSF, you’re making a mockery of being a full international.
So many things bother me about this match, but I also wonder which match some people are watching. Are you just looking at highlights? Do you focus on one moment, two? Do you watch players on and off the ball? do you count touches, passes, balls won? Do you watch how players interact? I will say that any good soccer player is lost in whatever it is the US doing. Trap cannot defend. He is a remnant of whatever Bob Bradley and later Arena were trying to do with Michael Bradley. Look, it failed. Why continue? We can't build or pass out of the 6 like a real team. Especially not with a 6 who can't defend. Defense first in that position, pass later. Weston either needs to learn how to make attacking passes, find space for himself or just anoint himself the #6 like Bradley did. Adams for me fills gaps at this point, he doesn't build through passing. Weah is fast! and plays dumb. Wood bless his mahalo heart, he's lost so much confidence, but he's battling out there. Yedlin basically said 'f*ck' this and takes his $15k per call up or whatever. He is demonstrably better for club. That means he's not happy or motivated. Miazga and Brooks. Man, what can you say? Good, bad, irrelevant? Green can be useful, but not without a midfield. CP is a man paddling a raft with a spoon at this point. There is just so much disaster. This is 20 years of mounting disaster. There was a Dilbert cartoon some years ago where the office had a soccer team. Dilbert was told to stand in front of the goal and the others would bounce the ball off his head and into the goal. Maybe that explains Wood's playing time a bit. I don't know about the others.
